Tony Elumelu’s Heirs Energies acquired a significant 20.07% stake in Seplat Energy Plc for nearly $500 million from French firm Maurel & Prom (M&P) in late December 2025, making Heirs Energies the largest shareholder and marking a major move towards indigenous ownership in Nigeria’s oil sector, with financing from Afreximbank and AFC. This strategic investment positions Elumelu to deepen his energy portfolio, capitalizing on international companies divesting from Nigerian assets and boosting local control, with the goal of long-term value creation.
