The Queen of the Ooni of Ife and Yeye Omi Oodua of the Source, Her Majesty, Olori Ashley Afolashade Adeyeye Ogunwusi , on Monday graced the 2025 edition of the Akinsin Water Festival — one of the sacred highlights of this year’s Oranfe Festival — in the ancient and revered city of Ile-Ife, the spiritual cradle of the Yoruba race.
Renowned for her deep cultural insight, philanthropic spirit, and spiritual devotion to the preservation of Yoruba heritage, Olori Afolasade Ashley continues to embody the essence of her revered title — Yeye Omi Oodua, the Mother of the Waters of Oduduwa’s Source.
The Akinsin Water Festival, an annual cultural celebration held in honour of the Akinsin River deity, symbolises purity, continuity, and the interconnectedness of nature and humanity within the Ife cosmology. Her participation in this year’s festival highlights her continuing commitment to safeguarding indigenous practices and promoting the spiritual and ecological consciousness that the water deities represent in Yoruba cosmology.
Draped in symbolic regalia that reflects both purity and royalty, Olori Ashley led traditional rites invoking blessings of peace, fertility, and abundance upon the land. Her presence at the festival reinforces the Ooni’s broader cultural renaissance agenda, which seeks to restore and celebrate the sanctity of Yoruba spirituality through women’s leadership and sacred stewardship.
Beyond her ceremonial role, Olori Afolasade Ashley Ogunwusi has, in recent years, been at the forefront of initiatives that empower women, promote education, and support vulnerable communities th
