Edunabon Kingship: My Throne Unaffected by Appeal Court Transfer of Case - Salu

The Salu of Edunabon, His Royal Majesty Oba Kehinde Oladepo Adesoji Akinrinsa II, has said his position is not affected by the recent transfer of a kingship dispute from the Court of Appeal sitting in Akure to the Osun High Court.

HRM Adesoji told reporters by phone on Thursday that the process that produced his appointment was constitutional and properly supervised by the local government.

He said there are three recognised kingmakers in Edunabon — the Olosi, the Monigbere and the Olukotun — and explained the sequence of vacancies and deaths that, in his view, led the town to rely on warrant chiefs appointed by the local council when the full complement of kingmakers was not available.

According to the monarch, the timeline is as follows: the Olosi was appointed on 30 September 2015; the Monigbere died in 2006 and was not replaced; the previous Salu, Oba Elijah Omoloye, died on 4 August 2017; and Emmanuel Olaniyan Olukotun died on 30 November 2017 — three months after the late Oba Omoloye. He presented those dates as his account of events.

Oranfe Festival 2025 in Ile-Ife

The Queen of the Ooni of Ife and Yeye Omi Oodua of the Source, Her Majesty, Olori Ashley Afolashade Adeyeye Ogunwusi , on Monday graced the 2025 edition of the Akinsin Water Festival — one of the sacred highlights of this year’s Oranfe Festival — in the ancient and revered city of Ile-Ife, the spiritual cradle of the Yoruba race.

Renowned for her deep cultural insight, philanthropic spirit, and spiritual devotion to the preservation of Yoruba heritage, Olori Afolasade Ashley continues to embody the essence of her revered title — Yeye Omi Oodua, the Mother of the Waters of Oduduwa’s Source.

The Akinsin Water Festival, an annual cultural celebration held in honour of the Akinsin River deity, symbolises purity, continuity, and the interconnectedness of nature and humanity within the Ife cosmology. The festival draws priests, priestesses, traditional leaders, and devotees from within and outside Ile-Ife, who gather to pay homage to the sacred waters believed to hold ancient spiritual significance.

Today’s Akinsin River programme forms part of the series of activities marking this year’s Oranfe Festival, whose grand finale will hold later today, Tuesday, 7 October 2025.

As the Yeye Omi Oodua, Her Majesty plays a central role in reaffirming the divine link between the royal throne of Oduduwa and the sacred waters that sustain the land and its people. Her participation in this year’s festival highlights her continuing commitment to safeguarding indigenous practices and promoting the spiritual and ecological consciousness that the water deities represent in Yoruba cosmology.

Draped in symbolic regalia that reflects both purity and royalty, Olori Ashley led traditional rites invoking blessings of peace, fertility, and abundance upon the land. Her presence at the festival reinforces the Ooni’s broader cultural renaissance agenda, which seeks to restore and celebrate the sanctity of Yoruba spirituality through women’s leadership and sacred stewardship.

Beyond her ceremonial role, Olori Afolasade Ashley Ogunwusi has, in recent years, been at the forefront of initiatives that empower women, promote education, and support vulnerable communities th

OLUWO FACES LEGAL ACTION OVER COMMENT AGAINST OONI AS OSUN MONARCHS ISSUE 21-DAY ULTIMATUM FOR RETRACTION

Traditional rulers in Origbo, under the Ife North Local Government Area of Osun State, have issued a 21-day ultimatum to the Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrasheed Adewale Akanbi, demanding the retraction of his recent allegations against the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II.

At a press conference held on Thursday at the Palace of Salu Edunabon, the monarchs accused the Oluwo of gross misconduct, insults, and persistent disrespect to the revered throne of Oduduwa.

They described as defamatory and unbecoming the Oluwo’s recent claims in a viral video that the Ooni conspired with his former wife to poison him. According to the Origbo monarchs, such statements amount to criminal allegations capable of desecrating the integrity of traditional leadership in Yorubaland.
