In exploring the Old Testament, I've come to appreciate the importance of honouring God's anointed. The consequences of opposing or disrespecting them can be severe, as seen in the story of David and Saul. Despite being pursued by Saul, who sought to kill him, David refrained from harming him, highlighting the gravity of honouring the anointed.
Another compelling illustration is the account of Nabal, who insulted David. Abigail, Nabal's wife, intervened and prevented David from seeking revenge, demonstrating the power of wise counsel. However, Nabal faced judgment from the Lord and died just ten days later, emphasizing the severe repercussions of dishonouring God's chosen leaders.
Following Nabal’s death, David sent for Abigail to become his wife. This raises interesting questions about how contemporary perspectives might view such actions, perhaps with suspicion regarding the timing following Nabal's death. Yet Abigail's humility was striking; she approached David with respect, expressing her willingness to serve him and even offering to wash his feet. Her reverence for God's anointed serves as a profound example worthy of reflection.
