Airtel Africa Foundation Presents Laptops, Scholarships to 16 OAU Students.
The Airtel Africa Foundation has presented laptops and scholarships to 16 selected 100-level students of the Department of Computer Science, Faculty of Technology, at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife.
The presentation ceremony held today, Thursday, August 6, at the university. The beneficiaries emerged after a rigorous screening exercise that saw them selected among the top 100 students from six universities across Nigeria.
The students were received by the Vice-Chancellor of Obafemi Awolowo University, Professor Adebayo Simeon Bamire, alongside the institution's Deputy Vice-Chancellors and other principal officers.
Speaking during the event, Professor Bamire commended the Airtel Africa Foundation for its investment in education, describing the initiative as a vital contribution to national development. He noted that with a student population of about 35,000, public universities cannot rely solely on government funding, adding that private sector support plays a significant role in strengthening higher education.
The Vice-Chancellor also charged the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the opportunity. He urged them to use the laptops strictly for academic and personal development, while encouraging them to remain focused and strive for excellence.
