Hon. Zakari Mohammed Dumps PDP, Plans to Join Another Party
In a carefully worded resignation letter addressed to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) ward leadership, Hon. Zakari Mohammed, a former member of the House of Representatives for Baruten/Kaiama Federal Constituency, has officially withdrawn his membership from the party.
The letter, dated July 11, 2025, and directed to the Ward Chairman of Gure/Gwasero Ward in Baruten Local Government Area, confirms his resignation from the PDP at the ward, local government, state, and federal levels.
In his statement, Hon. Zakari Mohammed noted that his decision followed consultations with his political base. He stated that his next political affiliation would be disclosed in due course:
“I would advance in my political future in another platform to be announced later, after wider consultation with my supporters,” the letter reads in part.
He went on to express appreciation to the leadership of the PDP for the opportunity to serve the party in various roles over the years.
Hon. Zakari served in the National Assembly between 2011 and 2019, during which he chaired key committees such as Media and Public Affairs, Basic Education, and other legislative platforms. Before his tenure in Abuja, he held commissioner-level roles in Kwara State and had an earlier background in journalism and youth development.
His resignation comes at a time of rising political activity ahead of the 2027 general elections, raising questions about realignments within Kwara North’s political landscape. While the reasons for his departure were not explicitly stated, the letter suggests ongoing internal consultations and the possibility of future political repositioning.
Political observers in Baruten and beyond are closely watching the development, especially given Hon. Zakari’s history of influence and grassroots presence in the area.
So far, no official statement has been released by the PDP at the local or state level in response to his exit.
