About the Journal

The Carnelian Journal of Law & Politics is a peer-reviewed, bi-annual, interdisciplinary, open access journal with a focus on constitutional law, human rights, democracy, international law, legal and political theory, public policy, political science, international relations and sociology of law in the context of Africa.

The Carnelian Journal of Law & Politics is published by the Babcock University School of Law & Security Studies, Ogun State, Nigeria. The periodical was a response to the dearth of interdisciplinary approaches to the study of law and politics within the context of Africa. Setting out to be the foremost African journal on law and politics, it publishes high quality research on law and politics from African early career researchers, both within the continent and in the diaspora. Being an interdisciplinary journal, empirical research is highly encouraged as much as theoretical approaches, while it provides a platform for rigorous analyses in its focus areas.

The Carnelian Journal of Law and Politics journal is only available in an electronic form. Information for Authors The Carnelian Journal of Law and Politics welcomes submissions with interesting perspectives on our focus areas. Please ensure that you are familiar with the kind of content that we publish before submitting. We publish book reviews, articles, essays and comments. Articles should not be more than 10,000 words including footnotes. And essays should not be more than 6,000 words, footnotes inclusive. We prefer book reviews to be below 3,000 words. Format Manuscripts should be written in Century Schoolbook, 12 –point font and with 1.0 spacing. The manuscript page layout should have right and left margins of 1.5 inches.

The journal uses a footnote reference style and authors should ensure that their references and writing conforms to the Oxford University Standard for Citation of Legal Authorities, fourth edition. Authors should note that the journal does not allow the use of endnotes.

The Ibrahim Index of African Governance 2020 offers some interesting evaluation of the rule of law in Nigeria. The evaluation shows some aspects of this component of governance below average. Law enforcement was ranked the lowest, however research has shown that enforcement actually define actors' expectations and behaviors. Good enforcement of rules ensure positive responses from actors and consolidates institutional strength.[1]
