GOVERNOR ABDULRAZAQ URGES PRESIDENT TINUBU TO CONSIDER ₦100,000 MINIMUM WAGE

Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to consider increasing the national minimum wage from ₦70,000 to ₦100,000 to further improve the welfare of Nigerian workers.

The governor made the suggestion during the Sallah celebrations with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in Lagos State, where national issues and the wellbeing of citizens were discussed.

According to Governor AbdulRazaq, the current economic realities require a review of workers' earnings to enable them better cope with the rising cost of living and meet their basic needs.

"On the issue of minimum wage, let's increase it from ₦70,000 to ₦100,000," the governor was quoted as saying while addressing the President.

The proposal has since generated discussions among Nigerians, with many viewing it as a significant step toward improving workers' welfare and strengthening their purchasing power.

Governor AbdulRazaq has consistently emphasized the importance of prioritizing workers' welfare, noting that a motivated workforce remains critical to national development and economic growth.

ILE LOKE STAMPEDE AGAIN?

Why is it always around their house that people reportedly lose their lives during gatherings?

Last year, we raised an alarm over the stampede that occurred during their leader’s Temu Durbar at GRA, Ilorin, where many people were injured and some reportedly lost their lives. Surprisingly, some of their leaders denied the incident and described it as false.

After several days of public reactions and criticism, reports began to emerge quietly about the release of some corpses to families who spoke out and challenged them, despite alleged threats and intimidation.

Among those reportedly released was a woman from Ita-Merin, Ilorin West, who allegedly died during the incident. At that time, there were also reports of another victim, including one of a set of twins, alongside others said to have been kept in the mortuary.

Later, their Publicity Secretary released a condolence statement, claiming the woman died due to health challenges. However, the family reportedly rejected the claim, insisting that she was healthy before leaving home for Ile Loke, GRA, and sadly never returned alive.

I still ask: why do heartbreaking stories always emerge from their gatherings?

There are many ways to show philanthropic gestures to people without endangering lives.

We are in a civilized era where support and empowerment can be distributed through organized and safer means, especially now that people have bank accounts and digital payment systems.

The Kwara State Government, under Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has implemented several empowerment programmes through KWASSIP, including Owo Arugbo for elderly citizens, without gathering or locking people into crowded spaces that could lead to stampedes.

So why is their leader always associated with incidents involving loss of lives during Sallah celebrations and money-sharing events?

Also, the original Ilorin Durbar is the Emir of Ilorin Durbar held at the Baseball Park, Adeta, Ilorin. Why then should another Durbar be organized privately in GRA, creating unnecessary division within Ilorin?
