In a congratulatory statement issued on Thursday, in celebration of the one-year anniversary of the council boss, Saliu highlighted the various remodeling of classrooms infrastructure across the eighteen (18) political wards in Ifelodun Local Council Area, including the reconstruction of Muslim Community School, Idofian; Elerinjare Community School, Idofian Ward II; Reconstruction of a block of two classrooms with staff offices in Budo Owode/Fenjewe, Share; Bayero Primary School, Igbaja Ward II; Remodeling of Ajagun Primary School, Oro-Ago, among others.

The youth ambassador lauded Hadji Femi Yusuf's achievements in the areas of human capacity building initiatives, such as the employment of over 100 teachers across the eighteen political wards and the provision of twenty (20) desks and chairs to community schools in Alabe-Oja community, calling the council boss a "community developer".

In his further appraisal, Saliu said Ifelodun LGA has witnessed transformative growth under the administration of Hadji Femi Yusuf, lauding him for repairing spoilt electricity cables to restore power supply in sixty-two (62) communities from Igbaja to Dabu communities.

He also added that the procurement of twenty (20) motorcycles for security purposes indicates his priority in protecting the lives and properties of the community people.

The Youth Ambassador noted that the creation and training of Ifelodun LGA Road Marshals (IRTM) by the council chairman across the eighteen (18) political wards in Ifelodun is a testament to the Council boss commitment to safety roads in the local communities.

Saliu stressed that the collaborative approach adopted by the council boss in strengthening governance and community development remains unmatched, adding that the grading and expansion of Yaru-Agbeyangi Road; Aalo Community Road; Olohuntele community Road; Gaa Eleyele community Road; Atiran community Road, among several community projects deserves applause.

While celebrating his 'one-year transformative scorecard', Saliu prayed Allah to grant the council boss more resounding achievements years in office, in fulfilment of his mandate and the wishes of the people.

2025/2026 Academic Session Resumption: Direct school owners to stop exploitative practices, ban graduation ceremonies for pupils in pre-basic, kindergarten schools

… Propose enforcement of six-year cycle directives to schools on textbooks changes

The Association of Young Kwara Professionals in Diaspora (ASYKWAPID), has urged the Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development to direct school owners to stop exploitative practices, expressing serious concern over the incessant practices associated with graduation ceremonies organised by school owners for pupils in pre-basic and kindergarten classes across the state.

In a statement jointly signed by the group's pioneer National Coordinator, Abdulwaheed Sulaiman, and National Publicity Secretary, Ahmad Adebayo, the group appealed to the Kwara state government to impose an immediate ban to lessen the rising financial burden on parents preparing to provide basic schools needs for their wards.

The group further described their passionate appeal as a means of “easing the financial burden on parents, promoting moderation, and curbing the excess culture often associated with graduation parties at basic levels.”

ASYKWAPID maintained that while graduation ceremonies may seem important to the organisers, only pupils completing Primary Six (6), Junior Secondary School Three (JSS3), and Senior Secondary School Three (SS3), should be permitted to participate in any graduation ceremonies.

“While our thoughts and prayers are with the struggling parents preparing to cater for the essential needs of their children in preparation for the commencement of the 2024/2025 academic session in our beloved Kwara state, we express our utter dissatisfaction over the seemingly popular exploitative practices by school owners who organised periodic graduation ceremonies for pupils in pre-basic and kindergarten schools. Graduation ceremonies should be modest and reflect true academic milestones rather than organised lavish social events.

“This popular practice by school owners reeks of immodesty and unnecessary financial burden on parents. We, however, appeal to the Kwara State Government under the State Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development to immediately place a ban on graduation ceremonies for pupils in pre-basic and kindergarten schools.

“In other states such as Ogun, Oyo, Imo, Edo, Ebonyi, and Benue, same popular practices have equally enforced bans on nursery and primary school graduation parties in their respective states, and Kwara, famously known as the State of Harmony, must consider the enforcement against this costly and immodest practice.

“In addition, we found it disheartening to know that the age-long practice of textbooks recycling for younger ones has been abandoned, rather school owners effect periodic changes of textbooks on pupils at intervals.

“As concerned citizens and in line with the economic realities in the country, we also appeal to the Kwara state government to immediately impose sanctions on schools effecting periodic changes and purchasing of textbooks on pupils and parents in the state. Instead, we propose a stringent directive of a six-year cycle before affecting any changes in textbooks for pupils in pre-basic and kindergarten school.

“We strongly believe that a six-year cycle directive before effecting changes in textbooks of pupils would alleviate the rising financial burden on parents. Quality education does not depend on frequent textbook changes but on effective teaching and proper use of available resources.

“While we wish the pupils a refreshing 2024/2025 academic session, we reiterate that this call is not targeted at any stakeholder in the education sector, rather in the best interest of both learners and families.

“As concerned citizens, we urged the state government for a more robust policy reform on education, while seeking the support of parents, schools, administrators, and teachers to support this initiative in order to make education affordable and attractive to the younger generations.”

Kwara viable for ICT infrastructure: Prof. Awodun

... Says Phillips Consulting state-level performance index report crucial for national devt

By: The Elites Watch Online Newspaper| August 14, 2025.

Renowned Chief Revenue Consultant and immediate past Executive Chairman of the Kwara State Internal Revenue Service (KWIRS), Prof. Murtala Awodun, has restated the potential of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) infrastructure in driving socioeconomic development and good governance in the state.

This, he noted, is expected to have a positive impact on the state's achievements and challenges in its economy, education, and health sectors, among others.

Awodun, who spoke as a guest on Sobi FM in Ilorin on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, analyzed the 2025 Phillips Consulting State Performance Index (PSPI) with a particular focus on Kwara State, as recently released by the global economic and management firm.

The state -level performance index report was conducted by Phillips Consulting (pcl) across the 36 Nigerian states, including the Federal Capital Territory.

According to the professor of business and entrepreneurship, harnessing the power of digital infrastructure, otherwise known as Information Communication Technology (ICT), can significantly improve the level of governance in Kwara and provide better services to the citizens.

He said the state performance index (PSPI) report, according to Phillips Consulting (pcl.), is intended to provide insights into the socioeconomic performance and risk profiles of Nigerian states, provided for reference purposes.

"By harnessing the power of digital infrastructure, otherwise known as ICT, Kwara state can improve its performance in terms of governance and provide better services to the citizens. Per Philips Consulting's state performance index, in terms of ICT infrastructure, Kwara is viable in this parameter in order to drive socio-economic development, enhance transparency, accountability, and efficiency in governance."

Professor Awodun, in his advocacy, highlighted the economic reforms implemented under his watch as the pioneer chairman of the reformed Kwara State Internal Revenue Service (KWIRS), which he noted has consistently ranked Kwara fifth in terms of Internally Generated Revenue per capita since 2016.

"Whereas when we talked of the Internally Generated Revenue per capita, Kwara has moved to fifth position, consistently over the past eleven years till date. For a layman, IGR per capita means that when you divide what Kwara has generated in terms of revenue by the number of citizens, the state population, and in economics, it's called IGR per capita. I think these are viable strengths for our dear state in terms of state-level performances. It is soothing that Kwara has not dropped from the recent rankings."

When quizzed on the objectivity of the Phillips consulting performance index report, Awodun, who is also the Chief Revenue Consultant at Treefour Consult, said the assessment was based on verifiable data from objective feedback across the strata of government, adding that Nigerian states must genuinely be guided by this report for national development.

"As the world evolves, verifiable data from objective feedback across the Nigerian states is crucial for national development. That is why the Phillips consulting state-level performance index must not be ignored. For instance, in terms of public teacher availability, Kwara has been consistently strong. These are things you can quantify in terms of the employability of teachers and lecturers in our public institutions. Also, in terms of the honesty of public servants in Kwara, Philips reports ranked number 36 out of 37. Likewise, in terms of the quality of roads, Kwara ranked 28. When you look at this parameter, it is not only in Ilorin that you will look at; there is going to be consideration of your roads against the landmass that you have.

"In terms of security of lives and properties, Kwara is ranked number 20. In terms of the quality of primary and secondary schools, Kwara is ranked number 21. In terms of the affordability of public hospitals, Kwara is ranked 26. In terms of awareness of government policies and programmes, Kwara is ranked 27. Government support for local businesses in Kwara is ranked 27. Affordability of safe public transport, Kwara is ranked 27, and the rankings go on like that."

Awodun, meanwhile, charged the Kwara state government to essentially invest in ICT infrastructure and leverage technology to enhance transparency and accountability, for the state to remain relevant and competitive amongst the comity of states.

‘Kwara’s IGR...IGR per capita, ICT Infrastructure, soars high per Philips Consulting, states PSPI national assessment 2025 report, says Prof. Awodun

By: The Elites Watch Online Newspaper| August 14, 2025.

A Chief Revenue Consultant and immediate past Executive Chairman of the Kwara State Internal Revenue Service (KWIRS), Prof. Muritala Awodun, has stated that the strides achieved by the state in terms of its internally generated revenue ditto per capital, and Information and Communication Technology (ICT) infrastructure is crucial to driving socioeconomic development and good governance in Kwara.

Awodun, who spoke as a guest on Sobi FM in Ilorin on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, analyzed the 2025 Phillips Consulting State Performance Index (PSPI) with a particular focus on Kwara State, as recently released by the global economic and management firm.

The state performance index report was conducted by Phillips Consulting (pcl) across the 36 Nigerian states, including the Federal Capital Territory.

According to Professor Awodun, harnessing the power of the rise in the state's internally generated revenue and digital infrastructure, otherwise known as Information Communication Technology (ICT), can significantly improve the level of governance in Kwara and provide better services to the citizens of the state.

He said the report provides insights into the socioeconomic performance and risk profiles of all Nigerian states, asserting that the report's objective assessment, he believes, should not be taken for granted by any state.

Out of several parameter indices in the Phillips Consulting PSPI report, 2 out of the 3 areas of strength were identified for Kwara State, namely the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) per capita and ICT infrastructure.

His words, “By harnessing the power of digital infrastructure, otherwise known as ICT, Kwara state can improve its performance in terms of governance and provide better services to the citizens. According to Phillips Consulting's state performance index, in terms of ICT infrastructure, Kwara is highly rated on this parameter, and that provides us with the opportunity to use it to drive socio-economic development, enhance transparency, accountability, and efficiency in governance.”

The Professor of Business and Entrepreneurship, while commenting on Kwara's strong IGR ranking, which put the state as number 5 in terms of IGR per capita, attributed the strides to the successful revenue reforms implemented under his watch as the pioneer chairman of the reformed Kwara State Internal Revenue Service (KWIRS), between 2015 and 2019, and the subsequent good work of his successor.

He noted that the solid foundation laid then, through the implementation of the Kwara Revenue Administration Law of 2015, in consideration of the people, process, and technology improvements, has geared Kwara state from a lowly 28 position on total IGR to top 10 position, which he said has consistently been sustained years after he had completed his tenure.

Awodun further stressed that Kwara State has been ranked fifth in terms of Internally Generated Revenue per capita since 2016, and has maintained that position till date.

Providing further insights, He said, “When we talk of the IGR per capita, Kwara has maintained this fifth position, consistently over the past eleven years till date. For a layman, IGR per capita means dividing the total IGR generated by the number of citizens/population. I think these are viable strengths for our dear state in terms of state-level performances. It is soothing that Kwara has not dropped from the recent rankings.”

When quizzed on the objectivity of the Phillips consulting performance index report, Awodun, who served on the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms (PCFPTR) that birthed the National Tax Acts, said the assessment was based on verifiable data from objective feedback across the strata of government, adding that Nigerian states must genuinely be guided by this report for national development.

"As the world evolves, verifiable data from objective feedback across the Nigerian states is crucial for national development. That is why the Phillips consulting state-level performance index must not be ignored. For instance, in terms of public teacher availability (quantity), Kwara ranks high, but it ranks low in terms of quality of teaching. These are things you can quantify in terms of the employability of products of our public educational institutions.

“Considering our areas of weakness in Kwara, the assessment of honesty of public servants gave us the worst ranking per Phillips Consulting reports; Kwara is ranked number 36 out of 37. On the quality and quantity of roads, Kwara ranked 28.”

In his analysis of road infrastructure parameters in Kwara, Professor Awodun said one may be tempted to quickly contest this, but "when you realize that it is not only Ilorin that makes up Kwara State, and the huge disparity of distribution of road infrastructure, then you will come to agree with the report.

“In terms of security of lives and properties, Kwara is ranked number 20. Affordability of safe public transport, Kwara is ranked 27, and the rankings go on like that.”

Meanwhile, the erstwhile KWIRS boss has appealed to the Kwara state government to essentially invest and leverage on the strong ICT infrastructure ranking to enhance governance, in all areas, as well as transparency and accountability, for the state to remain relevant and competitive amongst the comity of states.

OPINION: A Nation Under Duplicate Seals

By: Folorunso Fatai Adisa

There is a quiet dying in this land. It is elegant in its deception, but cruel in its constancy.

It does not come with the violence of guns or the thunder of bombs. No, it arrives softly, hiding in the sheen of supermarket aisles, in the seduction of labels that whisper foreign luxury. Cod liver oil. Toothpaste. Face wash. Deodorants. Household names turned harbingers of harm.

Leo Dasilva did not cry wolf. He simply shared a photo. A bottle of rum sold in Nigeria, allegedly registered by NAFDAC as Lucozade Boost. The image was clear, not pixelated. The danger was not theoretical. It was real, and in plain sight. Behind it lurks a national tragedy disguised as consumer choice.

These are not mere fakes. These are assassins in sachets. A counterfeit cod liver oil may contain industrial sludge, not nutrients. A fake toothpaste may burn away enamel with acid-laced chemicals. And Gestid, an ulcer medication, when counterfeited, becomes not just ineffective but toxic. What we face is not petty fraud. It is biochemical warfare, marketed with price tags.

In other places, such a revelation would seize national attention. In the United Kingdom, the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency would descend like a hawk, prosecuting swiftly. In the United States, the Food and Drug Administration alongside Homeland Security would ensure such items never saw the fluorescence of a store shelf. Supermarkets would be sealed. Chief Executives would be handcuffed. Consumers would be protected.

National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, once formidable and trusted under the unforgettable Prof. Dora Akunyili, now struggles to command the same confidence. The edge of its regulation feels dulled. Its presence, once bold and reassuring, now seems distant and unsure. What remains is an institution weighed down by inertia, present in name, but uncertain in impact.

But this, dear compatriots, is more than a health crisis. It is a moral unraveling. How does a nation survive when even its toothpaste cannot be trusted? When the balm for a headache may bear the sting of death? What message do we send to the world when Aboniki Balm, our own, must now be verified with Google Lens?

We are no longer just importers of foreign goods. We have become importers of foreign trust. Trust in Google, not in NAFDAC. Trust in foreign regulators, not in our own. And what dies in that equation is not just public safety. It is national dignity.

The path forward demands a fierce and urgent reckoning. Consumer awareness must become a civic duty. Every Nigerian must learn to scan, question, and verify. No purchase should be made in ignorance.

Supermarkets must be held to account. If your shelves stock poison, your doors should not be open. Sanctions must be swift. Raids must be real. Luxury retail must not be a masquerade of safety.

NAFDAC needs a rebirth. Not only in name but also in spirit. We need a lion-hearted steward who fears no godfather, entertains no bribe, and flinches at no backlash. The law must speak with fire. Selling counterfeit medicine is not commerce. It is attempted manslaughter. Let the penal codes reflect that truth.

We cannot build a nation on sand and fakes. Therefore, I ask again. Will it take another child poisoned by fake paracetamol? Another father crippled by counterfeit insulin? Another marketwoman buried by a bottle of deception?

Or will we choose, at last, to define wealth not by the number of malls but by the safety of what sits on their shelves? We cannot continue to remain a nation under duplicate seals. Draped in labels. Drained of truth. And someday, history will ask: Did we die by accident? Or by our own indifference?
