WATCH VIDEO | Senate Leader Proposes One-Term Six-Year Tenure for Presidents, Governors

The Senate Majority Leader, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, has disclosed plans to sponsor a constitutional amendment bill that would limit Nigeria’s Presidents and State Governors to a single six-year term in office.

Bamidele said the proposal is part of his legislative agenda for the incoming Senate, adding that it is aimed at improving governance and reducing the distraction of re-election campaigns.

He explained that under the proposed bill, anyone elected as President or Governor would serve only one tenure of six years.

“One of the first set of bills that I look forward to moving, by God’s grace, when we come back for the 11th Senate, is for a bill that will only make it possible for anyone who wants to be President of this country, or Governor in any state of this country, to spend only one tenure of six years,” he said.

Abdullahi Sanni writes Kwara Governor, describes gesture "as remarkable empowerment"

An Award Winning Photojournalist from Kwara State, Abdullahi Sanni has extends his appreciation note to HE, the executive Governor of Kwara State, Alhaji Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq as he reflect on the kindness, compassion, and generosity demonstrated by the Governor following the unfortunate fire incident that destroyed his professional gadgets on March 27, 2026.

In the letter obtained by Sho pen online, Abdullahi said, "When the fire inferno consumed my equipment, it was more than the loss of cameras, computers, and accessories. It was a painful setback to a career I have devoted years to building.

"The uncertainty that followed was overwhelming, and there were days when the future appeared unclear. However, Allah, in His infinite mercy, had already prepared a path to restoration.

"Sir, I write with a grateful heart to appreciate you for your remarkable support and intervention. Your Excellency, you did not merely replace damaged equipment; you restored confidence, renewed hope, and empowered me to continue pursuing my dreams.

"What touched me most was the magnitude of the gesture. The Camera, Drone, Speed Light, Microphone, and MacBook Laptop provided exceeded everything I had imagined. These are not ordinary gadgets, they are powerful tools that will shape the next phase of my career and enhance my capacity to document stories, preserve history, and contribute meaningfully to society through visual storytelling.

"At a period when many expected me to break under pressure, your intervention became a reminder that true leadership is not only measured by policies and projects but also by the ability to uplift people when they need it most.

"The Days after the fire incident were not easy. Yet, I remained steadfast in my faith and confidence. The waiting period taught me patience, resilience, and trust. What appeared to be a delay became a testimony of divine favour and human kindness.

"Sir, your support goes beyond replacing equipment. It is an investment in creativity, youth development, and the future of journalism.

"As someone who has dedicated years to documenting the activities, achievements, and cultural heritage of Kwara State, I consider this gesture a huge responsibility. It is a call to do more, work harder, and produce even better results. It motivates me to continue telling impactful stories that project our people, our heritage, and the progress of our dear state under your administration.

"I sincerely pray that Almighty Allah rewards you abundantly for this act of kindness. May He continue to grant you wisdom, strength, good health, and success in your service to Kwara State and humanity. Your efforts in empowering young people and creating opportunities for growth will continue to yield lasting rewards both in this world and in the Hereafter.

"I also pray that Allah blesses Dr Rafiu Ajakaye and Senior Special Assistant on Communications Ibraheem Abdullateef for their remarkable roles in making this support possible.

"As I resume fully with renewed energy and better tools, I make a solemn commitment that every gadget entrusted to me will be utilized responsibly and productively. I will continue to pursue excellence in photojournalism, uphold professionalism, and ensure that this investment translates into meaningful impact.

"Thank you for restoring not just my gadgets, but my confidence, my hope, and my ability to dream bigger. Your kindness will remain a defining chapter in my journey, and I will forever be grateful.

Thank you, Your Excellency.

With Gratitude,
Abdullahi Sanni
