The human tendencies for foolishness are greater than the pull towards wisdom. The desires for foolishness is greater in every man or woman. This is why there must be deliberate and conscious efforts to seek and reach out for wisdom every day. If you don’t take deliberate steps to walk in wisdom foolishness will express itself through you uninvited. Without reaching out for wisdom you will take foolish steps, talk foolish and behave foolish. You have a choice daily.

HOW TO FUNCTION AS A LEADER

Text: “For it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfil his good purpose.” (Philippians 2:13, NIV)

I want to believe that you have learned from all that we have discussed so far concerning leadership. The Spirit of God today will take us on a ride of basic steps that will be required for us to function as a leader.

1. Begin to think and talk like a leader. Your life will always move in the direction of your most dominant thoughts and words. As soon as Joseph had a revelation of becoming a leader he began to declare it to his brethren. That’s why he was hated but all he saw eventually came to pass.

2. Consciously allow the Spirit of God to work in you to bring forth the leadership potential in you. If we truly allow the Spirit of God to have his way in our lives great things will come forth out of our lives.

3. Be passionate about walking in God’s purpose for your life. You are designed to lead in your area of calling. It doesn’t matter the circumstances of life around you today the best way to rise beyond it is to walk in purpose.

4. Stop seeing yourself as someone that needs to be helped all the time; but as someone providing help to others. Get excited about reaching out to be of help in that area of your gifting just as Joseph was excited to interpret the dreams of the servants in prison even though there were no financial rewards to it.

5. Grow beyond offences and develop a large heart to accommodate others. If you are easily offended you can’t function as a leader. Leadership will require dealing with the weaknesses of others.

6. Overcome a solitary and selfish kind of life. Purpose is never fulfilled in isolation. Leadership will require that you pour out your life on others. Paul said “As for me, my life has already been poured out as an offering…”

PRAYER:
Lord I offer my life as a living sacrifice through which your purpose on the earth will come to pass. I release myself to be used for your glory.

JOY REPOSITIONING

Text: “And David was greatly distressed…But David encouraged himself in the Lord his God.” 1 Samuel 30:6

It was a terrible day for David and his men. The entire city and their properties were burnt down. The worst of it all was that their entire families were taken captives. For those who have seen the devastating effect of insurgence in the northern part of Nigeria in recent years will understand this. Everything that was precious to David and his men were gone. They began to weep until they lost the strength to weep.

As bad as the situation was it became even more complicated for David. The people began to threaten to kill him as being responsible for their loss. He was literally distressed. Distressed means suffering from extreme anxiety, sorrow, or pain. David was emotionally devastated. But along the line David realised this will have to stop if there will be recovery. He had to reposition himself for God’s intervention.

I want to challenge you today to reposition yourself for all that God has in store for you this year. As long as you keep nursing your hurts, disappointments, betrayals, losses and setback you will never come out of it. David had completely lost his joy. When you lose your joy, you will also lose the inner strength to mount up in life. When you lose your joy, you’ll be exposed to bitterness and depression. When you lose your joy, you’ll also lose your connection with the Spirit. Loss of joy will lead to loss of inner strength. Inner weakness is preparation for outer losses.

The greatest attack on your life is an attack on your joy. When you lose your joy, you’ll eventually lose more than you previously lost. Maintaining your joy will reposition you to recover whatever the enemy had taken in your life. Your joy is restored today.

LEARNING FROM THE EAGLE 1

Text: “They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles....” Isaiah 40:31

Over twenty-five years ago I came across a message on tape titled “The Eagle believer” By Pastor Matthew Ashimolowo, it made so much impact on my life at that tender age of trying to develop myself as a believer. In the next couple of days, I will share insights with you from the life of the Eagle. I want to encourage you to learn how to spend quality time with God on a daily basis. In the face of busy schedule, we must fight for our time with God. Time spent with God is a time when our inner strength is renewed to face the various challenges. The time you spend reading a material like this one is never wasted. It’s actually a time you gain momentum for your day. Waiting on the Lord includes spending quality time in the word of God, taking time to pray, taking time to minister to the Lord in worship all by you.

There are so many struggles in life mostly because the inner strength to go over the mountains is missing. The Eagle is a bird that rides on the wind. The Eagle does not flap its wings; it simply waits for the storm and then glides on the storm. The storm actually carries the Eagle up rather than bring it down. The Eagle does not struggle; it waits for the storm. The storms of life are not meant to bring you down; they are meant to carry you up to God’s plan and purpose. The inner strength to ride on the storm of life is what we receive as we wait on the Lord on a daily basis.

If you are going to embark on a major project or a significant journey don’t just do it casually. Before you set out spend time waiting on God. God will give you ideas, strategies and instructions that will take you far above the storms on your way. You are mounting up as eagles.

PRAYER:
In the name of Jesus I mount up with the wings of the Spirit above every storm of life.

BODY UNDER SUBJECTION

Text: “But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection....” 1 Corinthians 9:27

The body in our context simply refers to the cravings of the human flesh. The body has its own unique demands and it could be so overwhelming, that it will look like the only important thing in the world. When the body is making demands that are not consistent with the word of God, then we are brewing so much trouble that will be detrimental to our destiny.

Putting the body under subjection simply means putting the body under control so that it is not the one in control of our lives. Once the body is the one in control, it will be very difficult to do things that will aid our upward movement into destiny.

Sleeping for example, is legitimate but when the body begins to demand for it at the expense of what we know we should do per time, then we are setting ourselves up for a fall. A student may need to cover some school work in preparation for an examination. Sleep will have to be put under subjection for a while to accomplish the set goal. Whatever the body is asking for that will hinder a worthwhile goal, must be put under subjection.

The sexual cravings of the body, can be one of the most destructive ventures any of us can get into, when not put under subjection. This is something each one of us must do. If the sexual demand of the body is satisfied outside the context of marriage, it becomes destructive. It may go undetected for a while, but it is a poison that will eventually destroy. If one doesn't put the body under subjection, it will dominate and destroy one. Samson was so powerful; he was anointed from the womb. He kept allowing the sexual demands of his body to gain control until he became a prey in the hand of the Philistines. That will not be your story in Jesus name.

PRAYER:
In the name of Jesus my body is put under subjection.
