Today, we took our commitment to dismantling systemic barriers that women face in access to socio-economic opportunities to another level with the domestication of the National Women's Economic Empowerment (WEE) Policy. I'm delighted that Kwara is the first state in the North Central to domesticate the national policy.

At the launch attended by my wife, Amb. Olufolake AbdulRazaq, and key stakeholders within the state and beyond, I urged everyone to support the initiative by investing in women’s education, skills, and businesses, as we work together to build a Kwara where no woman is left behind, and every girl can aspire to greatness.

Our administration had earlier set a national benchmark in gender mainstreaming through the Gender Composition Bill which mandates at least 35% women in appointive positions, and a cabinet that once comprised over 56% women. We have also championed structural reforms, from the Violence Against Persons Prohibition (VAPP) Act to the establishment of the Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC).

The domestication of the WEE Policy in Kwara further reflects our dedication to equitable opportunities for women, and our passion for protecting women's rights and interests.

I commend Nigeria's First Lady, Her Excellency Sen. Oluremi Tinubu, for supporting gender inclusion and women empowerment. I also congratulate Her Excellency Olufolake AbdulRazaq and all her partners, including the Ajike People's Support Centre and Eden Venture Group, for a successful launch of the domestication of the WEE Policy in Kwara State.

*Kwara Health Tech Students' Hostels Nearing Completion*

The students' hostels being constructed at the Kwara State College of Health Technology, are nearing completion. Designed to replace the old facilities, the new hostels have already been roofed, and will be handed over to the school management shortly.

The Kwara State Government, under the leadership of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has continued to prioritise the welfare of students in the state-owned institutions. The administration is committed to ensuring that students learn in a safe and healthy environment.

The old, dilapidated hostels, now abandoned, were among the many run-down structures inherited by the current administration from the previous government. These facilities are now undergoing rehabilitation and reconstruction as part of broader infrastructural upgrades across the state’s educational institutions.

Once completed, the new hostels will be fully equipped with essential amenities, including beds, wardrobes, student mattresses, and reading tables, among others.

Mass arrests recorded as Kwara launches fresh security operations in Ifelodun, Patigi, Edu

•Suspects moved to Abuja

More than 20 individuals, including suspected gun runners and their logistics supporters, have been arrested in Ifelodun Local Government Area following a renewed security crackdown on criminal elements in the area, according to an intelligence report on Wednesday.

The crackdown, which involves the deployment of nearly 400 special security operatives, is at the instance of the state government and Office of the National Security Adviser. It targets Ifelodun, Ekiti, Edu, Patigi, and some other border areas where breaches have recently been observed.

“We are to have these local governments on a lockdown. The operation is just getting underway, and we have more than 20 arrests already. The suspects are giving useful information, and many of them were caught with ammunitions and supplies meant for the criminals around Babanla (Ifelodun),” according to the report.

“Out of these suspects, 10 are being moved to Abuja along with the ammunitions in their possession for more grilling. The operation has also led to the unconditional release of many captives in the area following mouthing pressure on the criminals.”

A government source said the operation also involves a strategic partnership with security forces in neighbouring Kogi and Niger States to prevent the criminals from escaping.

“The operation is only starting from Ifelodun. We are also moving to Edu and Patigi, while Eruku axis is on lockdown to ensure that these criminals do not escape to Kogi. Border communities around Niger are also being monitored,” he added.

The latest security operation followed recent assurances by Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq that every string is being pulled to smoke out the criminals from different forests where they may be hiding.

The government source urged members of the public to report any suspicious movement of unknown individuals to the security agencies.
