IEYDA Pays Traditional Visit to 13th Chief Imam of Ilorin Emirate Ahead of Turbaning Ceremony

Ilorin Emirate Youth Development Association (IEYDA), under the auspices of His Royal Highness, the Emir of Ilorin, today paid a traditional visit to the 13th Chief Imam of the Ilorin Emirate, Sheikh Bashir Imam Dasuk Al-Fulanii, ahead of his Turbaning Ceremony scheduled to take place tomorrow.

The delegation was led by the National President of the Association, Alhaji Mohammed Uthman Jagunmo, who conveyed the warm felicitations and prayers of the youth of Ilorin Emirate to the revered Islamic leader. As a symbol of solidarity and support.

The visit, which is in keeping with the cherished tradition of Ilorin Emirate, was aimed at expressing goodwill, seeking Allah's guidance and blessings for the Chief Imam, and reaffirming the commitment of the youth to supporting the religious and cultural heritage of the Emirate.

Speaking during the visit, Alhaji Mohammed Uthman Jagunmo prayed for Almighty Allah to grant Sheikh Bashir Imam Dasuki wisdom, strength, sound health, and a successful tenure as the spiritual leader of the Ilorin Emirate. He also prayed for continued peace, unity, and progress across the Emirate.

The Association congratulated the Chief Imam on this significant milestone and wished him a successful and memorable turbaning ceremony.

[Op-ed]: The Reconciliation Charade: Why Governor AbdulRazaq Cannot Be Both Judge and Litigant in the Kwara APC Crisis By Adeshola Kamal

The crisis within the Kwara State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has reached a defining moment. After the party’s 2026 primaries, several governorship, National Assembly, and House of Assembly aspirants expressed dissatisfaction with the outcome. A coalition of aggrieved stakeholders, now known as the G15, has since challenged the party’s leadership in the state and called for a return to the ideals of the 2019 Otoge movement.

In response, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq approved a five-member reconciliation committee chaired by retired Colonel AbdulWahab Ademola Lawal to engage aggrieved members and restore party unity.
Reconciliation is necessary, but it cannot succeed without trust. The issue is not simply that a committee has been formed, but whether the process is independent, neutral and credible enough to inspire confidence.

At the heart of the matter is the principle of natural justice: nemo judex in causa sua—no one should be a judge in his own cause.

The G15’s grievances are directed largely at the leadership style of the Kwara APC under Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, including allegations of exclusion, weak consultation, disregard for internal democracy and marginalisation of stakeholders. Whether one agrees with these claims or not, the governor is a central figure in the dispute.

This raises a difficult question: can a reconciliation process initiated, constituted and supervised by one of the principal actors reasonably command the confidence of those whose complaints are directed against that same actor? Natural justice suggests otherwise. Justice must not only be done; it must also be seen to be done.

A reconciliation process perceived to lack independence is unlikely to produce lasting peace, regardless of the sincerity of those involved.

Questions have also been raised about the committee’s composition, particularly the inclusion of Engr. Musa Yeketi, a former Commissioner for Education under Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed and later a member of the APC.

No one disputes his right to belong to any political party or serve where appointed. However, his inclusion on a committee expected to reconcile original Otoge stakeholders inevitably raises concerns among those who consider themselves foundational actors in that struggle.

For many within the G15, the issue is symbolic as much as political. They argue that those who were not part of the sacrifices that birthed the movement should not become arbiters in disputes involving those who built it. Whether that perception is fair or not, it cannot simply be dismissed. In politics, perception often determines legitimacy.

The committee chairman, retired Colonel AbdulWahab Lawal, has described the crisis as a family disagreement and expressed confidence that it can be resolved because all parties remain within the APC. That optimism is commendable, but reconciliation requires more than meetings and handshakes.

Sustainable reconciliation requires confidence in the process, in the mediators and in the assurance that every grievance will receive a fair hearing.

The G15’s demands go beyond individual ambitions. They include internal democracy, transparent party administration, protection of dissent, broader consultation and reconciliation founded on justice and fairness.
These are institutional concerns that cannot be resolved through symbolism alone.

Successful political reconciliation is usually facilitated by individuals or institutions perceived to be independent of the principal contestants. Where the mediator is seen as aligned with one side, even sincere efforts may struggle to gain credibility.

This is why many stakeholders believe the situation requires intervention by respected national party leaders or mutually acceptable elders whose neutrality is less likely to be questioned.

If reconciliation is to succeed, it must be anchored on impartiality, mutual respect and genuine dialogue. A process perceived as predetermined or lacking independence is unlikely to restore confidence among aggrieved stakeholders.

Governor Abdulrahman AbdulRazaq therefore faces an important leadership choice: broaden the reconciliation process through a mechanism trusted by all tendencies within the party, or continue with one many already view with scepticism.

Ultimately, reconciliation cannot be imposed; it must be accepted. And acceptance begins with trust.

The principle remains unchanged: nemo judex in causa sua—no one should be a judge in his own cause.

[Op-ed]: Kwara APC’s G15 Revolt: A Warning Signal That Must Not Be Ignored By Abdullateef Ishowo

On Monday July 6, 2026, Kwara witnessed a seismic political demonstration. The G15, a bloc formed to confront the illusion that Kwara is anyone’s personal estate, staged a massive rally. In response, the governor’s camp barricaded the Emir’s palace to block the G15. Petty, predictable and dangerous.

This is not mere intra-party squabbling. The G15’s open confrontation with Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and his anointed successor is a red flag. Ignore it, and the APC in Kwara risks implosion ahead of 2027.

History indicts us. The PDP’s collapse in 2019 offers the blueprint. The defection of heavyweights — Moshood Mustapha, Bio Ibrahim, Cook Olododo, Oba Abdulraheem and others who sabotaged from within, hollowed the party. O To Ge filled the void and swept the state.

Kwara voters have spoken twice. In 2019 they punished division. In 2023 they rewarded unity. To relapse into factional warfare now is to squander seven years of gains for ego.

The stakes in 2027 are existential. The opposition is regrouping. The electorate is less forgiving. The margin for error has vanished. A fractured APC will not withstand a competitive election.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu must intervene, and decisively. Kwara is not peripheral to APC strategy. It is the birthplace of O To Ge — proof that entrenched structures can be upended by popular will. That same force will turn on the party, if the fuse is lighted.

The governor’s reconciliation committee is a charade. Its composition betrays its purpose: to bludgeon the G15 into submission to the governor’s preferred candidates. You cannot be judge and litigant. 'Nemo judex in causa sua'.

Reconciliation must rest on three non-negotiables: real party supremacy over perso anointing. The 2027 process must be transparent, inclusive, and competitive. Imposition will calcify the fault lines. Genuine engagement with the G15. They command real structures across all 16 LGAs. Dismissing them is self-sabotage. Neutral arbitration. Any resolution must be brokered by an external, impartial body. A zero-sum outcome favoring one side will only deepen the crisis.

To raze the house over who gets the master bedroom is political lunacy. The APC still retains incumbency, federal alignment, and a record to defend. But advantage evaporates the moment strategy is sacrificed to vanity.

Mr. President, act now. Convene the stakeholders, enforce a level playing field, remind every actor that Kwara belongs to the APC and APC belongs to the people of Kwara.

The lesson of 2019 must not be relearned in 2027. The party cannot survive another self-inflicted wound.

Kwara APC Appoints Olasumbo Oyeyemi as Tinubu Torch Bearers Co-coordinator

The appointment was conveyed in a letter dated July 6, 2026, through the office of the Kwara State APC Women Leader, in recognition of Oyeyemi's commitment to the growth of the party and her contributions to advancing its progressive ideals.

The Tinubu Torch Bearers is a strategic advocacy and mobilisation platform designed to galvanise support for the policies and programmes of President Tinubu's administration while engaging youths, women and other critical stakeholders across the country ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Party leaders described Oyeyemi's appointment as a reflection of the confidence the APC leadership has in her leadership capacity and years of dedicated service to the party.

Over the years, she has held several strategic positions within the APC, including serving as spokesperson of the party's 2023 presidential and governorship campaign council in Kwara State, Financial Secretary of the APC Kwara South Senatorial District Committee, Deputy Chairman of the APC State Youth Advisory Council, and Chairperson of the APC Oke-Ero Wards Campaign Council.

Imo Court Sentences Pastor to Life Imprisonment for Sexual Assault of Minor

An Imo State High Court has sentenced a 42-year-old pastor, Samuel Ehirim, to life imprisonment after convicting him of sexually assaulting a minor.

The judgment was delivered on Tuesday by Justice C.O. Chukwumaeze, who ruled that the prosecution successfully established the case against the defendant beyond reasonable doubt.

According to the court, the evidence presented during the trial was credible, consistent, and sufficient to prove the pastor's guilt, leading to his conviction and life sentence.

The ruling brings an end to the trial and reinforces the judiciary's commitment to ensuring justice for victims of sexual violence, particularly children.

Former Port Harcourt Refinery MD Arraigned Over Alleged Money Laundering, Granted ₦150 Million Bail

Ahmed Dikko, former Managing Director of the Port Harcourt Refining Company (PHRC), has been arraigned before a Federal High Court in Abuja over an alleged money laundering case brought by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Dikko, alongside Masterpiece Projects & Investment Ltd, was on Wednesday docked before Justice Inyang Ekwo on a 12-count charge bordering on alleged money laundering.

The former PHRC boss pleaded not guilty to all the charges when they were read in court.

Following his plea, Justice Ekwo granted Dikko bail in the sum of ₦150 million with conditions to ensure his appearance throughout the trial.

The court subsequently adjourned the case to a later date for the commencement of trial.

CBN Affirms Standard, Commemorative N100 Notes Remain Legal Tender

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has reaffirmed that both the standard and commemorative ₦100 banknotes remain legal tender and must be accepted for all transactions across the country.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the apex bank said it had received reports that some individuals and businesses were rejecting the standard ₦100 note over concerns about its validity.

The statement, signed by the CBN's Acting Director of Corporate Communications, Hakama Sidi-Ali, clarified that the standard ₦100 note remains valid and continues to circulate alongside the commemorative version.

The bank urged members of the public, businesses, and financial institutions to accept both versions of the ₦100 note, warning that refusing legal tender is contrary to the law.

The CBN also advised Nigerians to disregard misinformation regarding the status of the standard ₦100 banknote and continue using it for everyday transactions.

Reps Divided Over Motion to Invite Tinubu as Budget Delay Debate Turns Rowdy

The House of Representatives descended into a heated session on Wednesday following disagreements over a motion seeking to invite President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to explain delays in the implementation of the 2025 budget.

The motion, sponsored by Hon. Mascot Ikwechegh, raised concerns over slow budget ex*****on, citing revelations from ministers and heads of Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) during the ongoing 2026 budget defence sessions. According to the lawmaker, many agencies received little or no capital releases in 2025, resulting in abandoned projects across the country.

Ikwechegh also highlighted complaints from indigenous contractors over unpaid certificates for completed government projects, noting that many had borrowed from banks to execute contracts and were now facing financial hardship.

He recalled President Tinubu's directive at a Federal Executive Council meeting in December 2025 for the payment of verified contractor liabilities estimated at about ₦1.5 trillion but argued that implementation had remained slow despite legislative approvals and assurances from the Ministry of Finance.

The lawmaker further expressed concern over a Treasury circular reportedly issued on June 29, 2026, suspending payments for zonal intervention and constituency projects pending verification by the Federal Ministry of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs.

While urging the House to commend the President for approving the settlement of contractors' debts, Ikwechegh also proposed that Tinubu be invited to address lawmakers on the delays in budget implementation and their impact on infrastructure and security projects.

The proposal sparked sharp divisions among lawmakers, with some backing the invitation while others argued that ministers and heads of relevant agencies—not the President—should be held accountable for budget implementation.

The debate became more contentious after Hon. Godwin Oga Amobi proposed postponing the House's planned Open Week to enable lawmakers focus on resolving the budget crisis, a motion seconded by Hon. Sani Lawan.

Hon. Yusuf Gagdi opposed the proposal to invite the President, insisting that executive responsibilities rest with ministers and agency heads under Nigeria's constitutional framework. He also called for separate votes on the controversial prayer and the other resolutions contained in the motion.

The request triggered shouting and protests across the chamber, forcing Speaker Abbas to repeatedly call members to order. The Speaker eventually declined the request for separate votes, directing the House to proceed in accordance with its established parliamentary procedures.
