Joshua Knocks Out Jake Paul in Sixth Round, Calls Out Tyson Fury
Former heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua delivered a dominant performance on Saturday morning, knocking out YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul in the sixth round of their heavyweight bout in Miami.
Although Paul exceeded expectations by lasting beyond the early rounds, Joshua’s superior power and experience eventually proved decisive.
The contest swung decisively in the fifth round when Joshua landed a sharp uppercut that forced Paul to clinch before dropping to the canvas. Paul later landed an overhand right, his best moment of the fight, briefly catching Joshua as the former champion pressed forward.
Joshua dropped Paul twice in the chaotic fifth round. The first knockdown came late in the round as Paul took a knee following sustained pressure, while the second followed a clean right hand that floored him again.
Paul survived the round but was visibly shaken as the bell rang. Joshua capitalised early in the sixth, dropping Paul with a right hand before forcing him onto the ropes and unloading a series of punches.
A crushing right hand to the chin sent Paul crashing to the canvas, where he failed to beat the referee’s count, ending the fight.
The victory marked Joshua’s return after a 15-month layoff, his first bout since losing to Daniel Dubois in an IBF heavyweight title fight in September 2024.
Despite the emphatic win, Joshua admitted he was not fully satisfied with his performance. “It wasn’t the best performance,” he said, adding that his aim was to pressure Paul and secure a knockout.
In his post-fight interview, Joshua challenged fellow former heavyweight champion Tyson Fury to a long-anticipated showdown, urging him to step into the ring rather than trade words online.
Paul, who suffered a broken jaw and was taken to hospital, remained defiant after the defeat and said he would continue boxing. The loss was the second of his professional career.
