This is the Police Outpost serving *Garunguɗinya community in Babura Local Government Area, Jigawa State*.
The structure is made of mud with a dilapidated roof, peeling walls, and two flags planted in front. It raises serious questions about the state of basic security infrastructure in the area.

Babura is not just any LGA. It is the hometown of the *former Governor of Jigawa State and current Nigeria’s Minister of Defence*. For a community in that same LGA to have a police outpost in this condition sparks concern about priorities and investment in grassroots security.

In our earlier post, we showed how the *Jigawa State Government / LG* was "empowering" residents with roofing sheets.
The image shows residents lined up, each to receive *one single roofing sheet*. While the government described it as support for vulnerable households, many on ground and online have reacted, asking if one sheet can truly address housing challenges, especially when basic institutions like police outposts are also in poor shape.

The contrast is what’s generating conversation:
On one side, empowerment materials being distributed.
On the other, critical public infrastructure like a police outpost serving an entire community still looks like this.

*Jigawa LG Chairman Sparks Reactions as Residents Receive One Roofing Sheet Each in Empowerment Scheme*

A local government empowerment programme in Jigawa State has stirred mixed reactions after residents were reportedly given just one roofing sheet each.

The initiative, launched by the LG Chairman as part of efforts to support vulnerable households and improve housing in rural communities, was meant to ease the burden of shelter for beneficiaries. However, the distribution has drawn criticism online and within the communities, with many questioning the impact of giving a single sheet.

Videos and photos from the distribution showed long queues of residents, each handed one corrugated roofing sheet and asked to sign for it. While some beneficiaries expressed gratitude, saying “something is better than nothing,” others described the gesture as inadequate given the rising cost of building materials.

Supporters of the chairman argued that the scheme was a pilot phase and that the council is working within limited resources and a tight budget. They said the goal was to reach as many households as possible rather than give full roofing packs to a few.

Critics, however, called for more impactful programmes such as cash grants, skills training, or complete housing support, saying one sheet cannot build a house.

The chairman is yet to issue an official statement on the backlash. Residents say they expect more clarity on how the next phase of the empowerment scheme will be implemented.

The Minister of Aviation has called on opposition candidate Mr. Peter Obi to publicly apologize to airport staff and pay a N25,000 fine for wrongful parking at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, on 4 July 2026.

Following Obi’s claim that his car tyres were “unjustly” clamped as part of a “persecution agenda,” the Minister instituted an inquiry and reviewed 24/7 CCTV footage. According to the footage, Obi arrived at 8:28pm in a vehicle driven by a policeman. The driver parked in a drop-off zone and left the vehicle unattended for about 30 minutes, a security risk under airport rules. Airport security then clamped the tyres. No one was in the car at the time.

When the driver returned, he called Obi, who spoke with the airport manager and was granted release of the vehicle without paying the fine. The Minister dismissed Obi’s claim that others were also offending that day as false.

He stated that Obi is whipping up political sentiment over a clear violation and must be held to the same law as other Nigerians. The Minister demands: 1) a public apology to the airport staff, and 2) payment of the N25,000 fine within one week. Failure to comply will lead FAAN to take further action. CCTV footage was attached as evidence.

On 10 July 2026, the Nigerian Army announced the rescue of 44 pupils and teachers kidnapped on 15 May 2026 from Oriire Local Government Area, Oyo State.

The rescue followed a month-long, intelligence-led and well-coordinated operation led by the General Officer Commanding 2 Division, Nigerian Army, Ibadan, _Major General CR Nnebeife_. The operation involved special units from the Office of the National Security Adviser’s National Counter Terrorism Center, Defence Headquarters Special Forces from the Army, Navy and Air Force, the Nigeria Police, DSS, NIA, NSCDC, and local vigilantes, hunters and Amotekun.

The mission targeted terrorist kingpins behind the abduction, dismantling their networks, logistics, informants and hideouts within the Old Oyo National Park and other parts of the country. Multiple arrests were made across Oyo and other states, which disorganized the group and forced the terrorists to _unconditionally release_ the victims.

The operation was executed to avoid civilian casualties, though some security personnel were injured. The rescued pupils and teachers are receiving medical care in an undisclosed hospital and will be handed over to the Oyo State Government for reunification with their families.

The GOC thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Seyi Makinde, the NSA, service chiefs, other security heads, and Nigerians for their support, and urged continued public vigilance and information-sharing.

Katsina Highway Video: Questions We Must Ask

A disturbing video is making rounds on social media. In it, men armed with AK-47 rifles were seen in large numbers, riding motorbikes on a highway in Katsina State. What caught more attention was that some police officers were seen waving at them as they passed.

The clip has already sparked reactions across Nigeria. Citizens are asking serious questions about security, profiling, and the message it sends when heavily armed men move freely on public roads.

The Nigeria Police Force has since released a disclaimer stating that those men were members of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria, VGN, working alongside security agencies in the fight against banditry in the state.

If that is true, then the next set of questions become important:
1. *What is the protocol?* What are the rules of engagement and identification for VGN members operating with arms in public? Citizens deserve to know how to distinguish between state-backed groups and criminal gangs.
2. *What is the role of security operatives?* The officers waving at armed men on a highway raises concern. What exactly is their duty in that moment? Is it coordination, supervision, or passive observation? The public needs clarity on how this protects lives and property.
3. *Public confidence.* Security is built on trust. When people see armed groups moving freely and officers waving, it creates fear and confusion, regardless of the intention.

This is not about condemning any group fighting insecurity. Every region needs local support in this fight. But it is about accountability and communication. Nigerians deserve to feel safe and to understand the structures set up to protect them.

We need more than a disclaimer. We need clear policies, training standards for vigilante groups, and visible accountability from security agencies. Only then can we separate legitimate security work from actions that deepen public anxiety.

The lives and properties of Nigerians must remain the priority.

*A Wake-Up Call for the North*

After VDM posted a video saying the North is the problem of the country, the reaction was instant. Northern influencers and content creators came out to criticize him. Some went further and threatened to take off his head just for speaking out against the North.

Let me be clear: VDM spoke the truth. And truth is always very BITTER.

We cannot keep pretending that everything is fine when the data, the conditions on the ground, and the lived experiences of millions say otherwise. If pointing out the problems of a region now attracts threats and calls for violence, then we have missed the point. Criticism is not hatred. Speaking truth is not an attack. It is the first step to fixing what is broken.

This moment should be a wake-up call for all Northern influencers and content creators. Instead of threatening the messenger, let’s do the needful. Let’s use our platforms to address the real issues: insecurity, poverty, out-of-school children, poor infrastructure, and leadership gaps that have held the region back for too long.

Silencing voices will not change reality. Attacking people who speak will not build schools, roads, or create jobs. What will change things is honesty, accountability, and collective action.

To my Northern brothers and sisters creating content: our people deserve better than propaganda and threats. They deserve leaders and influencers who will tell them the truth, even when it hurts. They deserve solutions, not suppression.

The North is not our enemy. The real problem is our refusal to confront the truth. If VDM’s video offended you, let the offense push you to action, not violence. Let’s turn this bitter truth into sweet progress.

The time to do the needful is now.
