🦴❤️ “I thought strong bones were something I only needed to worry about when I became old.”

That was what she used to believe.

She thought bone health was an issue for older people.

But one day, she learned something important:

The foundation for strong bones is built throughout life not only in old age.

Calcium is an essential mineral that helps keep our bones and teeth strong. It also plays important roles in normal muscle function, nerve signaling, and other body processes.

And the good news is that calcium can be found in many everyday foods. 🥛🥬

🥗 Where can you get calcium?

🥛 Milk, yogurt and other dairy products

🌱 Calcium-fortified plant-based alternatives

🐟 Certain fish eaten with their edible bones, such as sardines

Beans and some other legumes

🥬 Some leafy green vegetables

🥜 Nuts and seeds and other calcium-containing foods

You don't necessarily need expensive foods to support your bones.

For example, you could try:

Eggs with vegetables and a calcium-containing food at breakfast.

🥣 Yogurt with fruit and nuts as a snack.

🍛 Beans with vegetables and another nutritious staple food for lunch.

🐟 Fish with vegetables and a balanced carbohydrate source for dinner.

☀️ And don't forget vitamin D.

Vitamin D helps the body absorb calcium and is important for bone health. Your vitamin D needs can vary depending on factors such as age, health, diet, and sun exposure.

❤️ Bone health is a lifelong investment.

Children need healthy bones for growth.

Adults need to maintain bone strength.

Older adults need to protect their bone health as they age.

The right nutritional choices, regular physical activity, and appropriate healthcare can all play a role.

If you have dietary restrictions, a medical condition, or concerns about your calcium or vitamin D intake, speak with a qualified healthcare professional for personalized advice.

👉🏽 Take a look at your meals today.

Are you regularly including calcium-rich foods?

Start with one simple change and make bone health part of your everyday routine.

Strong bones aren't built in one day, they are supported by healthy habits over a lifetime. 🦴❤️

“Sometimes, it's not just what we eat that matters, it's how we prepare it.”

Imagine two people using the same ingredients.

One boils or steams them.

The other deep-fries them in a large amount of oil.

The ingredients may be similar, but the final meals can be very different.

Cooking is an important part of healthy eating, and you don't need expensive ingredients or complicated recipes to prepare nutritious meals.

Try different cooking methods:

💨 Steaming
Steaming can help retain the natural flavor and nutrients of many vegetables without requiring much added fat.

🍲 Boiling
Boiling is simple and affordable. However, some water-soluble nutrients can move into the cooking water, so avoid unnecessarily overcooking foods.

🔥 Grilling
Grilling can add flavor without requiring large amounts of oil. Make sure food is cooked thoroughly and avoid excessive charring.

♨️ Baking:
Baking can be a useful alternative to deep-frying for foods such as fish, chicken, vegetables, and some snacks.

Roasting:
Roasting vegetables and other foods can bring out their natural flavors while using little added fat.

Frying:
Frying isn't automatically “bad,” but frequent deep-frying and using large amounts of oil can increase the energy content of meals. When frying, use appropriate amounts of oil and avoid repeatedly heating the same oil.

❤️ Healthy cooking doesn't have to mean boring food.

Try using:
🌿 Herbs
🧄 Garlic
🫚 Ginger
🌶️ Peppers
🧅 Onions
🍋 Citrus or other flavorful ingredients

These can add plenty of flavor without relying only on large amounts of salt, sugar, or oil.

And remember:
Food safety comes first.

Cook foods thoroughly, especially meat, poultry, eggs, and seafood. Keep raw and cooked foods separate, use clean utensils and surfaces, and store leftovers safely.

You also don't have to change everything at once.

Maybe bake instead of deep-fry.

Maybe steam your vegetables instead of overcooking them.

Maybe experiment with herbs and spices instead of adding excessive salt.

Small changes can make everyday meals healthier while still keeping them enjoyable. 🍽️❤️

👉🏽 Your challenge this week: Try ONE healthier cooking method you've never used before.
Your kitchen can become one of the most powerful places to build healthier habits.

💊 “The fever was gone, so she stopped taking the antibiotics.”

It seemed harmless.

A few days earlier, she had visited a pharmacy because she wasn't feeling well. She was given antibiotics and started taking them.

After a few days, she felt better.

So she stopped.

Weeks later, the same symptoms returned.

This time, the medicine that had helped before didn't seem to work.

She became worried.

And this is something we all need to understand:

Antibiotics are powerful medicines, but they are not suitable for every illness.

Antibiotics treat certain bacterial infections. They do not treat viral illnesses such as most common colds and flu.

Misusing antibiotics can include:

❌ Taking antibiotics without appropriate medical advice.

❌ Using leftover antibiotics from a previous illness.

❌ Sharing antibiotics with another person.

❌ Taking the wrong dose.

❌ Stopping or changing treatment without speaking with a healthcare professional.

❌ Using antibiotics for illnesses they cannot treat.

Overuse and misuse of antibiotics can contribute to antimicrobial resistance, making some infections harder to treat in the future.

👉 What should you do?

1. Take antibiotics only when appropriately prescribed or recommended by a qualified healthcare professional.

2. Follow the instructions carefully.

3. Don't share your antibiotics with someone else.

4. Don't save leftover antibiotics for the next illness.

5. Don't use someone else's antibiotics because their symptoms seem similar to yours.

6. If you experience problems while taking an antibiotic, contact a healthcare professional rather than stopping or changing it on your own.

💡 Feeling better is not always a reason to make your own changes to treatment.

If you're unsure about an antibiotic, ask a healthcare professional or pharmacist before taking it.

The antibiotic that helped someone else may not be the right treatment for you.

🩺 Use antibiotics wisely today to help keep them effective for tomorrow.

“She held her newborn close and wondered, ‘Am I doing this right?’”

The room was quiet.

Her tiny baby was resting in her arms, and she was trying to learn something completely new.

How to position the baby.

How to help the baby latch.

How to know if the baby was getting enough.

Everyone around her seemed to have advice.

But what she really needed was support, accurate information, and reassurance.

Breastfeeding can be a beautiful part of the early days with a baby, but it can also come with challenges.

🤱🏽 When possible and appropriate, exclusive breastfeeding is recommended for the first 6 months of life.

Breast milk provides babies with important nutrients and immune-related protection, while also changing as the baby grows.

After around 6 months, appropriate complementary foods should be introduced while breastfeeding can continue.

But let's also talk about something important:

Breastfeeding doesn't always come easily.

A mother may experience:

• Difficulty with the baby's latch
• Sore or painful ni***es
• Concerns about milk supply
• Engorgement
• Feeling exhausted or overwhelmed
• Difficulty finding a comfortable feeding position
• Returning to work or other practical challenges

And sometimes, despite a mother's best efforts, breastfeeding may not be possible or may need to be supplemented because of individual circumstances.

❤️ That doesn't make her a bad mother.

Every mother and baby is different.

Instead of criticism, mothers need support and accurate information.

If you're having difficulty breastfeeding, don't suffer in silence.

👉🏽 Speak with a qualified healthcare professional or trained lactation support person.

They can help assess positioning, attachment, feeding patterns, and other concerns and provide advice appropriate for you and your baby.

👨‍👩‍👧 Families also have an important role to play.

Sometimes the best support isn't another piece of advice.

It may simply be:

“Let me help you rest.”

“Can I bring you something to eat?”

“Would you like me to help you find someone who can support you?”

❤️ A supported mother is better positioned to care for her baby.

So, to every new mother learning one feeding at a time:

You don't have to know everything on day one.

Ask questions.

Seek reliable information.

Accept support.

And don't be afraid to speak up when something doesn't feel right.

👉🏽 If you are a mother or supporting one, make accurate breastfeeding information part of your preparation not just advice from social media or well-meaning relatives.

Support mothers. Protect babies. Share accurate information. 🤱🏽❤️

🚨 Important Health Update: Oral Ketoconazole 200 mg Registration Discontinued in Nigeria

If you still have ketoconazole 200 mg tablets at home or in your medicine cabinet, please take note. 🚨

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has discontinued the registration of oral ketoconazole tablets in Nigeria because of concerns about serious liver toxicity (hepatotoxicity). Recent reporting on the regulatory action states that the decision is linked to the risk of severe, potentially fatal liver injury.

💊 Why is oral ketoconazole a concern?

Ketoconazole is an antifungal medicine. However, when taken by mouth, it can cause serious liver damage. In some cases, liver injury has been severe enough to require a liver transplant or result in death. Importantly, serious liver injury can occur even in people without previous liver disease.

Other important safety concerns include:

- ⚠️ Serious liver injury
- ⚠️ Potential adrenal-gland problems
- ⚠️ Significant interactions with other medicines
- ⚠️ Heart-rhythm/QT prolongation concerns

Because of these risks, regulators in other countries have also taken strong action against oral ketoconazole. The European Medicines Agency recommended suspension of oral ketoconazole after finding that its risk of serious liver injury was higher than that of other antifungal medicines.

❗ Does this mean all ketoconazole products are banned?

No. The concern is specifically with oral ketoconazole tablets. Ketoconazole is also available in topical forms such as creams and shampoos, which are different from tablets and have different safety considerations.

🩺 What should patients do?

If you are currently taking ketoconazole 200 mg tablets, do not simply continue taking it without speaking to a qualified healthcare professional. Contact your doctor or pharmacist so that your treatment can be reviewed and an appropriate alternative considered.

Do not replace it yourself with another antifungal or start another medicine without professional advice.

📢 Please share this information. A medicine that has been used for years is not automatically safe for every situation. Regulatory decisions are made when evidence shows that the risks may outweigh the benefits.

Your health matters. Always check before taking medication, especially prescription medicines. ❤️

This post is for health education and does not replace advice from a doctor or pharmacist.

🩸❤️ “Why am I always tired? I thought I just needed more sleep.”

Every morning, she woke up feeling exhausted.

She struggled to concentrate during the day.

Even simple tasks sometimes felt harder than usual.

At first, she blamed stress and lack of sleep.

But eventually, she decided to speak with a healthcare professional.

One of the things they discussed was her iron status.

And that's an important lesson:

Constant tiredness shouldn't always be ignored or simply blamed on a busy lifestyle.

🩸 Iron is an essential mineral that your body needs to make hemoglobin.

Hemoglobin is a protein in red blood cells that helps carry oxygen around the body.

When someone doesn't have enough iron, iron deficiency can develop and may contribute to symptoms such as tiredness, weakness, or difficulty concentrating.

But here's something important:

Feeling tired doesn't automatically mean you have iron deficiency.

There are many possible causes of tiredness, and iron deficiency itself can have different causes.

🥩 Where can we get iron?

You can find iron in foods such as:

🥩 Meat and other animal foods

🐟 Fish and seafood

🥚 Eggs

🫘 Beans and other legumes

🌱 Lentils and other plant-based sources

🥣 Appropriately fortified foods

For people who get most of their iron from plant foods, eating them alongside vitamin C-rich foods such as oranges, guava, tomatoes, peppers, or other fruits and vegetables can help improve absorption of non-heme iron.

🍛 Simple meal ideas:

🫘 Beans + vegetables + a vitamin C-rich fruit

🐟 Fish + vegetables + your preferred staple food

🥚 Eggs + vegetables + whole-grain or other nutritious staple foods

🥣 Fortified cereal + fruit

❤️ But don't rush to take iron supplements just because you're tired.

Too much iron can be harmful, and the right treatment depends on the cause of the problem.

If you have persistent tiredness, weakness, pale skin, shortness of breath, dizziness, or other concerning symptoms, speak with a qualified healthcare professional. They can determine whether testing or treatment is appropriate.

👉🏽 Your challenge today: Look at your next meal and ask yourself “Where is my source of iron?”

Add an iron-rich food to your meal and make nutritious choices part of your everyday routine.

Good nutrition is not about one perfect meal. It's about the healthy choices we make consistently. ❤️

She was talking normally just a few minutes ago… then suddenly, something changed.

It started like an ordinary morning.

She was getting ready for the day, talking with her family and going about her usual routine.

Then suddenly, one side of her face looked different.

Her speech became unclear.

One of her arms felt weak.

At first, the family thought she was tired.

But something wasn't right.

They quickly sought medical attention.

And that decision mattered.

A stroke can happen suddenly, and recognizing the warning signs early can save precious time.

Remember FAST:

F – Face: Ask the person to smile. Does one side of the face droop?

A – Arms: Ask them to raise both arms. Is one arm weak or drifting downward?

S – Speech: Is their speech slurred, strange, or difficult to understand?

T – Time: If you notice these signs, seek emergency medical help immediately.

Other possible warning signs include sudden:

• Severe headache
• Difficulty seeing
• Dizziness or loss of balance
• Numbness or weakness, especially on one side of the body
• Confusion or difficulty understanding others

⚠️ Don't wait to see if the symptoms will disappear.

Don't simply give the person food, drinks, or medication and hope they improve.

Get urgent medical help.

⏰ When it comes to stroke, time matters.

Knowing the warning signs could help you recognize a stroke in a loved one, a friend, a colleague—or even a stranger.

❤️ Take a moment today to learn FAST. You may one day be in a position to save a life.
