Saudi-bound wanted drug lord arrested as NDLEA raids his clandestine colos lab in Lagos Dismantles laboratory, recovers 148.3kg Colorado, precursors; nabs 73-yr-old grandpa, 70-yr-old grandma in Edo, Bayelsa

A wanted drug lord 40-year-old Yussuf Abayomi Azeez has been arrested by operatives of a special operations unit of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport (MMIA) Ikeja Lagos while on his way to Saudi Arabia for Umrah, a holy pilgrimage, after months of intelligence and surveillance on him and his criminal drug activities.
The drug kingpin had been arrested and charged for drug offences in the United Kingdom but jumped bail and escaped to Nigeria. Soon after settling down in Lagos, he set up a massive clandestine laboratory in the Lekki area of the state for the production of Colorado, a deadly synthetic cannabis and other illicit substances.
At about 6:30am on Thursday 6th November 2025, Yussuf walked into the waiting hands of NDLEA operatives at the Lagos airport while attempting to board his flight to Saudi Arabia for Umrah. He was swiftly driven to his 17 Vincent Eku street, Ogombo, Lekki, clandestine laboratory which has been under surveillance for a while. At the time of his arrest, Yussuf was found in company of another suspect, 43-year-old Abideen Kekere-Ekun.
Inside the massive building, operatives from the Agency’s Directorate of Forensic and Chemical Monitoring were able to dismantle all installed laboratory equipment, precursor chemicals and already produced illicit substances including Colorado, all weighing 148.3 kilograms.
At the Sifax bonded terminal in Okota, Lagos, NDLEA operatives in conjunction with men of Customs Service and other security agencies on Friday 7th November discovered 105.5kg Molly, a designers drug and 500grams of methamphetamine during a joint examination of
a shipment.
In Niger state, NDLEA operatives on Thursday 6th November intercepted Ibrahim Mohammed, 35, in a Volvo truck marked GRZ 872 XA along Kainji-Wawa road while conveying 87,000 pills of tramadol and 72kg of skunk, a strain of cannabis.
Not less than 34,520 capsules of tramadol were found concealed in different compartments
of a Toyota Corolla car marked GAN 102 AR intercepted along Zaki-Biam – Wukari road on Monday 3rd November while the driver Aliyu Samaila, 25, was arrested. The opioids were loaded from Onitsha, Anambra State, and heading to Cameroon. In another operation in Taraba, NDLEA officers on Thursday 6th November arrested a suspect Felix Tanko Chinedu, 28, with 15,020 capsules of tramadol at Kasuwabera ATC in Ardo Kola LGA.
In Kogi state, NDLEA operatives on patrol along Okene/Lokoja highway on Wednesday 5th November intercepted a consignment of 7.600kg Loud, a strong strain of cannabis. A follow-up operation in Abuja led to the arrest of the owner, Chukwunonso Anieze, 40, while no fewer than 175,000 pills of opioids were recovered from another consignment at the location same day.
Three suspects: Olayide Oyidiran, 39; Abdulsalam Abdulsalam, 28; and Opeyemi Tijjani, 39, were on Wednesday 5th November nabbed at Abuja/Kaduna tollgate with 769kg skunk
being conveyed in a truck marked TRE 897 BE, coming from Lagos en route Owo, Ondo state and heading to Kano.
A 73-year-old grandpa James Ugbedo was on Friday 7th November arrested in a cannabis plantation at Igbeshi forest, Imiakebo, Etsako East LGA, Edo state where 1,459.75kg skunk was destroyed and 5.6kg of same substance evacuated, while 70-year-old grandma Mrs. Comfort Odudu was nabbed at Onopa, Yenagoa, Bayelsa state with 5kg skunk on Tuesday 4th November.
With the same vigour, Commands and formations of the Agency across the country continued their War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) sensitization activities to schools, worship centres, work places and communities among others in the past week. These include: WADA sensitization lecture to students and staff of Transfiguration Seminary Secondary School, Abakaliki, Ebonyi; Day Secondary School, Sabonkasuwa Kontagora, Niger state; Immanuel College High School (Snr), Ibadan, Oyo State; Government Girls Secondary School, Ilelah, Sokoto; Government Day Secondary School, Namtari, Adamawa and NURTW leaders and members in Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi state, among others.
While commending the officers and men of SOP, DFCM, Tincan, Edo, Taraba, Kaduna, Kogi, Niger and Bayelsa Commands for the various successful operations, Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (rtd) enjoined them and their colleagues across the country to continue with the ongoing balanced approach to the drug control efforts of the Agency.
“The dismantling of yet another clandestine laboratory for the production of Colorado and other dangerous synthetic substances and the arrest of the kingpin behind it in Lekki, coming barely a week after similar actions were taken against another cartel in Ajao estate Lagos shows that these are no doubt the first in the series of what will be many strikes against merchants of death who prey on the weak in our communities. Let it be known to those still hiding in the dark that the NDLEA supported by our local and international law enforcement partners will continue to hunt them and bring them to justice”, Marwa added.

Alimosho LG Boss Charges Stakeholders to Mobilise, Support Health Workers for Polio Vaccination

The Executive Chairman of Alimosho Local Government, Hon. Akinpelu Ibrahim Johnson, has charged stakeholders in the area to support, mobilise, and cooperate with health workers during the upcoming polio vaccination exercise scheduled to commence on November 8 and end on November 11, 2025.

Hon. Akinpelu made this appeal during a strategic meeting with the Outbreak Response (OBR) Taskforce, which brought together key community stakeholders, including representatives of the Youth Council, League of Imams, Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), and Community Development Committee (CDC), among others.

“It is imperative that we go all out to educate our people on the importance of this vaccine,” he stated. “We must particularly reach those with religious or cultural misconceptions about vaccination. Polio is a terrible disease that can cause lifelong deformities in children. The vaccine does not harm our children—it protects them. We must help demystify the myths and ensure that every child is vaccinated.”

He further appealed to community leaders to give full support to health workers as they move around to administer the vaccines, stressing that the immunisation exercise targets children between the ages of zero and five years to prevent deformities and paralysis as they grow.

He urged all stakeholders to monitor and supervise the vaccination exercise within their respective communities to ensure full coverage and compliance. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to prioritising health-related initiatives and improving the standard of all primary health centres across Alimosho Local Government.

Present at the meeting were Mrs. Adekoya Abimbola Adedoyin, Medical Officer of Health (MoH), Alimosho; Mrs. Akingbehin Adeyinka, Health Education Officer; and Mrs. Adewale Deborah, Local Immunization Officer.

Polio, being a highly contagious viral disease, can lead to irreversible paralysis and even death. The best protection remains prevention through timely vaccination. The local government therefore calls on all parents, guardians, and caregivers to ensure their children receive the oral polio vaccine during this campaign period.

In addition, he announced plans to intensify health awareness campaigns across schools, religious centres, and marketplaces in Alimosho, emphasizing that public enlightenment remains a key tool in sustaining a polio-free community. He commended the health workers for their dedication and assured them of the local government’s continuous logistical and welfare support throughout the exercise.

South-South Community Pays Solidarity Visit to Alimosho Council Boss, Hails His Inclusive Leadership

The South-South community in Alimosho Local Government has paid a courtesy and solidarity visit to the Executive Chairman, Hon. Akinpelu Ibrahim Johnson, to congratulate him on his administration’s achievements and express their readiness to work closely with his team.

Speaking on behalf of the group, the spokesperson commended the Chairman for his magnanimity and inclusive governance since assuming office.“Mr. Chairman sir, you are indeed a ‘talk and do’ leader. Thank you, sir,” the spokesperson said.

While expressing appreciation, the group also appealed for greater participation of its members in the local government structure.“However, as Oliver Twist, we want more. We would like our people to be included in the council’s temporary employment, appointed as Senior Special Assistants when the time comes, and given opportunities within the party’s executive structure, being loyal members of the All Progressives Congress (APC),” the spokesperson added.

In his response, Hon. Akinpelu Ibrahim Johnson thanked the group for their visit and support, assuring them that his administration would continue to carry all groups along.“Thank you for coming and identifying with our administration. I have listened attentively to your requests, and I assure you that when the time comes for appointments, you will not be left out,” the Chairman stated.

He further announced plans to allocate temporary staff positions and include members of the group in upcoming social intervention programs, which will form part of his administration’s 100 Days in Office celebration.“As part of our empowerment drive, petty traders will receive ₦100,000 each in support. Additionally, the local government has established the ‘Alimosho Market’, where food items will be sold at a 50% discount to households. I encourage your members to take part in this initiative,” he concluded.

In a renewed drive to promote unity, security, and environmental cleanliness, the Executive Chairman of Alimosho Local Government, Hon. Akinpelu Ibrahim Johnson, has joined forces with his colleagues from the five Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) — Hon. Adunni Akindele (Mosan-Okunola LCDA), Hon. Abiodun Agbaje (Ayobo LCDA), Hon. Abiodun Ejigbadero, Hon. Idris Balogun (Egbe - Idimu LCDA), and Hon. Lasisi Akinsanya (Igando-Ikotun LCDA) — in a bold initiative to “re-invent Alimosho.”

At a strategic meeting held at the Alimosho Local Government Multipurpose Hall with selected members of Team Lagos (One Love Alimosho), the Chairmen and stakeholders unanimously resolved to work as one family under the banner of the All Progressives Congress (APC). They emphasized that a united Alimosho is essential for progress and for mobilizing massive voter support ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The gathering also discussed the creation of a dedicated Environmental Corps across all the councils. This team will be tasked with maintaining cleanliness and ensuring that Alimosho becomes one of the cleanest localities in Lagos State. Members of Team Lagos were further urged to encourage their families, friends, and communities to participate in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise — described as a crucial step toward building political power and active civic participation.

The Chairmen jointly pledged their commitment to cooperation and development, stressing that “unity remains the key to achieving internal party harmony and fostering collaborative growth among all the councils.”

On their part, members of Team Lagos promised to uphold the spirit of togetherness, urging the council leaders to continue demonstrating unity and purpose-driven leadership, as this will inspire grassroots participation and trust.

Additionally, discussions touched on pressing social issues such as cultism and drug abuse, with a firm resolution to tackle these menaces through community-based enlightenment campaigns, youth engagement programs, and partnerships with security agencies.

In a closing remark, Hon. Akinpelu Johnson noted that the new collaboration marks a turning point for Alimosho. “This is more than politics; it’s about building a community we can all be proud of,” he said. “Together, we’ll make Alimosho a model of unity, cleanliness, and development in Lagos State.”

Alimosho Local Government Chairman Awards Full Scholarships to Children with Neurological Disorders

••• extends his “Wise Agenda” to empower special-needs children through education, therapy support, and employment opportunities for parents.

The Executive Chairman of Alimosho Local Government, Hon. Akinpelu Ibrahim Johnson, has once again demonstrated his compassionate leadership through his Wise Agenda by extending full scholarships to two children living with neurological disorders, often referred to as “intellectual children.”

In addition to the scholarships, the Chairman also offered instant employment to the mother of one of the children as a Health Assistant — a gesture that brought immense relief and joy to the families involved. He made the announcement during a meeting with parents of children with special needs at his office.
One of the parents, overwhelmed with gratitude, said, “Thank you, sir, Mr. Chairman. Truly, when I heard about this meeting, I was very happy because it’s long overdue. It’s surprising that under just three months of your assumption of office, you have made it a priority to care for people living with disabilities in Alimosho. May Almighty God continue to bless you, your family, and your team.”

Speaking on behalf of the group, another parent explained the challenges they face daily, “These ‘intellectual children’—those with neurological disorders such as Down syndrome—often require 24/7 support. They are teachable, but their learning pace is very slow. Many of us mothers have been left to shoulder the burden alone. We need your help with continued therapy sessions—speech, sound, and physical therapy—as well as access to special education. Some of these children are in their 20s or 30s but still function like 5-year-olds. We also need an intervention centre in Alimosho to ease the financial and emotional strain on families.”

In his response, Hon. Akinpelu Ibrahim Johnson assured the parents that all their requests would be granted, “We will begin with therapy sessions and then recruit professionals to handle each aspect. These children are part of my constituency; they are my children. Our Wise Agenda manifesto captures their needs, and they deserve all the attention and support required,” the Chairman said.

He further announced full scholarships for two of the children who excelled in their West African Examinations Council (WAEC) results — Ifeoluwa Oke and Adedayo Oyelowo — to further their education. He also directed the immediate provision of a wheelchair for Victoria Toya, walking support for Ibrahim Sulaiman, and hearing aid for Al-Ameen Olaya. In addition, Mrs. Toya Rebecca was offered employment as a Health Attendant.

Hon. Akinpelu Johnson instructed the Education, Health, and Agriculture Departments to work together swiftly to implement these initiatives and establish a sustainable support system for special-needs children in Alimosho.

A Reading of President Trump’s Statement on Nigeria by Gimba Kankada

Perhaps comprehension has become a casualty in this debate, but I find it difficult to understand how anyone can claim that U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent statement on faith-based violence in Nigeria aligns with the sectarian agenda advanced by certain groups. Two points stand out clearly in his comments. First, he deliberately avoided describing the situation in Nigeria as “genocide,” instead using the phrase “existential threat to Christians.” Secondly, and crucially, he identified radical Islamists, not the Nigerian state, and certainly not Nigerian Muslims, as the perpetrators of violence. These distinctions matter greatly, as they contradict the divisive rhetoric being promoted by those seeking to pit one faith community against another.

This is not the first time President Trump has raised concerns about alleged one-sided violence against Christians. During former President Muhammadu Buhari’s visit to the White House on April 30, 2018, President Trump remarked, “We’re deeply concerned by religious violence in Nigeria, including the burning of churches and the killing of Christians.” In response, President Buhari, while framing the violence as indiscriminate, acknowledged the challenge of violent herdsmen and cross-border recruits from Libya and the Sahel, and stressed that his government was doing its best to stabilise the situation.

There is a reason that moment remains instructive. Rather than amplifying a narrative of state-sponsored sectarian extermination, the U.S. side identified religious violence as one of several security concerns. The Nigerian side responded by framing the violence as part of complex socio-security dynamics, not as a conspiracy of Muslims against their Christian compatriots.

It also bears reiterating that the claim of “genocide” against Christians in Nigeria does not meet the legal definition established under the 1948 Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide. The Convention defines genocide as acts committed with the intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnic, racial, or religious group as such. There is no credible evidence that the Nigerian government is masterminding the destruction of Christians. The origins and dimensions of violence in Nigeria are unmistakable. They are rooted in terrorism, banditry, communal conflicts, resource competition, and, admittedly, weak governance over the years. This does not amount to the state-directed and systematic campaign that the term “genocide” presupposes.

President Trump’s statement, while emotively focused on Christian victims, does not mirror the propaganda promoted by some far-right commentators who claim that the Nigerian government turns a blind eye to attacks on Christians or that Nigerian Muslims are complicit. On the contrary, he singled out radical extremists. This distinction aligns with the Nigerian government’s own position and reflects the sacrifices of its multi-faith armed forces in confronting terrorism across the Sahel and West Africa.

The line between NGO activism and diplomatic engagement is clear. Activism draws its energy from outrage, while diplomacy thrives on dialogue. In this regard, the response of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs exemplifies the restraint and statesmanship required in such a situation. It acknowledges the concerns raised, reaffirms Nigeria’s commitment to religious freedom, and emphasises partnership with the United States in tackling violent extremism, which is the central theme of President Trump’s statement.
This is reminiscent of President Cyril Ramaphosa’s masterclass in diplomacy during his Oval Office meeting with President Trump, when Trump made claims about alleged killings of white farmers in South Africa. Ramaphosa refused to be provoked and chose to engage with facts. That act of composure shielded South Africa from further reputational harm and potential economic consequences. Such measured diplomacy is not weakness; it is wisdom.

Nigeria, as Africa’s largest democracy, operates in a subregion where democratic governance has faced severe strain in recent years. It cannot afford the luxury of an antagonistic posture toward a strategic partner like the United States, and it is reasonable to believe that the U.S. authorities are equally aware of this. There are no winners in a diplomatic standoff between Abuja and Washington, only losses for both nations. What must prevail now is reason.

Arrests music artist; recovers tons of opioids, skunk in Kaduna, Edo, Kwara, Ogun, Taraba, Ondo, Bauchi raids

The discovery followed months of intelligence gathering on possible Colos laboratories in Lagos after NDLEA officers intercepted consignments of freshly produced Colos in March and May 2025 in the state, a development that suggested that the dangerous psychoactive substance, which was hitherto imported into the country, was now locally produced.

The effort paid off on Thursday 30th October 2025 when NDLEA officers raided the residential apartment in Ajao estate, Isolo Lagos which Kelechi converted to a laboratory for cooking Colos, a strain of cannabis produced with the psychoactive plant and various chemicals. Recovered from the apartment include: freshly cooked Colos weighing 16.2 kilograms; ADB-CHMNACA Cannabinol -1.7kg; Potassium Carbonate -4.5kg and Dibromobutane - 91 litres.

This followed the seizure of the shipment which arrived the import shed of the Murtala Mohammed International Airport (MMIA) Ikeja Lagos from US aboard a DHL flight on Tuesday 28th October.

The 20-year-old music artist was nabbed at Bougain Villa, Primewater Gardens 2, Freedom way, Lekki Lagos when he showed up as the consignee to take delivery of the 140 bags of Loud with a gross weight of 77.20kg on behalf of a syndicate, which includes his manager, Zion Osazee Omigie (a.k.a Zee Money) who is currently at large.
In Kaduna, NDLEA operatives on patrol along Abuja - Jos highway on Sunday 26th October
intercepted a consignment of 84,710 capsules of tramadol coming from Onitsha, Anambra state and heading to Bauchi. A follow up operation in Bauchi led to the arrest of the recipient Musa Abdulkarim, 27. Two days later, Tuesday 28th October, operatives at the tollgate along Abuja - Kaduna highway arrested Hamza Musa, 47, conveying 32, 946 bottles
of Akuskura, a New Psychoactive Substance (NPS) from Lagos, while Saidu Nafiu, 30, was nabbed with 131.5kg skunk at Kamfanin Zangon Aya, Igabi LGA, Kaduna.
Three suspects: Seun Olaniyi, 24; Rauf Asogba, 28; and Ayinla Adeniyi, 50, were on Saturday 1st November arrested at Abeokuta, Ogun state after a team of NDLEA officers tracked their movement from Benin Republic and eventually intercepted their bus along Abiola way, Abeokuta, with a total 1,779kg skunk recovered from them.

In like manner, operatives in Ondo state on Tuesday 28th October recovered a total of 2,829kg skunk linked to a 32-year-old female suspect Mrs. Ige Olarewaju from two locations at Ayede, Ogbese, while another suspect Samuel Adebayo was nabbed with 737kg of same psychoactive substance at Adegbola junction, Akure.
No less than 76.5 litres of skuchies, a mixture of black currant, skunk and opioids were seized from a suspect Ige Oluwale, 50, who was arrested by NDLEA officers at Ibereko, Bagadry, Lagos on Friday 31st October, while a total of 30,370 pills of tramadol and 177 grams of methamphetamine were recovered from the duo of Musbahu Abdullahi, 28; and Saleiman Ahmed, 25, following their arrest at Wukari, Taraba state by operatives on Thursday 30th October when they were conveying the drugs from Onitsha, Anambra state to Yola, Adamawa state.

Meanwhile, Commands and formations of the Agency across the country continued their War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) sensitization activities to schools, worship centres, work places and communities among others in the past week. These include: WADA sensitization lecture to students and staff of Aroje/Abaa Community High School, Ogbomoso, Oyo state;
Amazing Flower Secondary School, Maya, Ikorodu, Lagos; Government Day Secondary School, Ilelah, Sokoto; Government Day Secondary School, Darina, Gwiwa LGA, Jigawa Royal Star Academy, Hayin Gwarmai, Bebeji LGA, Kano state, among others.

While commending the officers and men of MMIA, Lagos, Kaduna, Edo, Kwara, Ogun, Taraba, Ondo, Seme, and Bauchi Commands as well as their compatriots across the country for their resilience, professionalism and balanced approach to the drug control efforts of the country, Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of NDLEA, Brig Gen Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd) vowed that the Agency will continue to target and dismantle every identified drug syndicate in any part of Nigeria while denying them of the benefits of the proceeds of their criminal trade by ensuring that they forfeit all their traceable assets to the Federal Government.
