Be careful what you eat out there! 🌽

Driving back from Ogun State along the popular Shagamu Interchange, I decided to buy boiled corn. The moment I rolled down my window, several sellers rushed toward me, each pushing their transparent nylon bags three corns for ₦500.

I picked two wraps, and to my greatest shock, one had a dead cockroach inside! 😩 It was so disgusting that I immediately lost appetite. When I showed the woman, she simply said, “I’ll change it.” I just dropped it and refused to buy again.

As I was about to drive off, I heard them insulting me in Yoruba, calling me unserious. It was alarming to see how some people have sold their conscience, feeding others with what could easily be poison.

Now, here’s the thing… I’m addicted to corn roasted or boiled, I can’t resist it. That addiction even got me into trouble years ago when my aunt handed me her corn business during secondary school. I ate the profit with my mouth! 😂 Those freshly harvested, juicy corns were just too tempting.

There was even a day I spent my last cash on corn at Ojuelegba and trekked home happily. That’s how deep my love for corn runs! The aroma alone sends a message straight to my brain as if it’s calling my name.

But yesterday changed everything. After that cockroach incident, fear wouldn’t let me eat the corn I bought elsewhere. My mind kept replaying the image, and then it hit me sometimes, what you’re addicted to could be poison in disguise.

We all have that “harmless” thing we love, yet it slowly drains us. So, be mindful of what you consume physically, mentally, and spiritually. Not everything that smells or looks good is truly good for you.
