All 38 Abducted Worshippers Rescued in Kwara Church Attack
In a major breakthrough following last week’s deadly attack on a Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) in Eruku, Kwara State, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq on Sunday, November 23, 2025, announced that all 38 abducted worshippers have regained their freedom.
The victims, who were taken by armed bandits during a mid-week service that left several people dead, were rescued after days of intense security operations across the area.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu commended the security agencies for what he described as a determined and coordinated effort, noting that their swift response prevented what could have become another prolonged national tragedy. He praised the collaboration between the military, police, and community security structures, saying their bravery played a significant role in bringing the worshippers home alive.
Meanwhile, the CAC congregation held its first Sunday service since the attack, a gathering filled with grief, relief, and thanksgiving. Church leaders confirmed that the number of abducted members stood at 38, including non-members who were present during the service. Prayers were offered for the survivors, while the church also mourned those who lost their lives during the assault.
In response to the incident, security presence in Eruku has been significantly strengthened. Soldiers, SWAT operatives, anti-kidnapping units, and local vigilante groups have been deployed across the community and surrounding areas. Authorities say the move is aimed at preventing further attacks and restoring public confidence.
The successful rescue has been widely welcomed across the state, though residents continue to call for sustained security measures to end the rising wave of violent attacks in the region.
