🕊️ Handball Federation of Nigeria Mourns Coach Patrick Anthony Atusu
The Handball Federation of Nigeria (HFN) is deeply saddened by the passing of legendary coach Patrick Anthony Atusu, a pioneer whose legacy shaped the course of Nigerian handball.
Coach Atusu led Nigeria’s women’s handball team to its historic first and only Olympic appearance in 1992 (Barcelona) — a milestone that remains unmatched.
He served the game with passion and excellence for over two decades, coaching both the male and female national teams and nurturing countless talents at Rima Strikers of Sokoto. Until his retirement, he was also the Director of Sports Development in Sokoto State.
In the words of HFN President, Samuel Ocheho:
“He was a pillar of excellence and an architect of greatness in our game. His legacy will live on through the many lives he touched.”
Coach Atusu was more than a coach — he was a mentor, father figure, and a true builder of dreams. He will be dearly missed. 🕊️
