DELTA PDP'S CAPITULATION,
PART 1
AFTER RAIN COMES THUNDER - Chinua Achebe.
By Frank Iroroh
I attended what I can best describe as the burial ceremony of Delta PDP held at the Cenotaph, Asaba, on 28th April 2025, the burial rites were conducted by the duo of the immediate past governor of Delta State and Vice Presidential candidate of PDP in the 2023 Presidential election, Sen, A I Okowa, and his successor, Rt Hon Sheriff F Oborevwori, the incumbent governor of Delta State, in their separate remarks, both admitted that their deceased party, the PDP was deeply fractured, rapidly depleting, and dangerously sinking into the bottom of the ocean. They further averred that the party is in a precarious situation where it is incapable of winning any elections in Delta State and Nigeria at large. Hence they decided to surrender to the strongest, the largest, the most viable, and the most stable political Party in Nigeria, the All Progressive Congress APC.
It is disheartening to hear such negative remarks from the very people who contributed to the depletion and sinking of PDP in Delta State.
It is equally sorrowful to observe that former governor Okowa and Oborevwori, his successor, who rose to the pinnacle of political prominence in Delta State through PDP, are the ones who deliver the final nail to the coffin of the party in the State.
Some politicians are hypocrites (Majek Fashek)
Now What's Next
In their plea for acceptance, they also admitted that Delta PDP is insolvent and distressed and requested its acquisition by Delta APC; I can now call them the legacy APC, a bequest of Delta APC.
Now that they have surrendered, the necessary protocol guiding a capitulated army should be invoked. When troop surrenders to a superior force, they are de-armed and encamped/de-briefed before being integrated into the conquering army, if need be.
APC has been at war with PDP for over ten years, we fought a brutal war with them during the 2023 general elections, and in that war, many APC faithful suffered great humiliation; some were maligned and assaulted, some survived assassination plots, some were maimed, and some unlucky ones were sent to their early grave. Many have their properties confiscated, and some have their vandalized and destroyed.
All these are crimes against humanity, and for peace to reign between APC and legacy APC, there must be recompense and compensation for all our members who were victims of their brutality and atrocity.
The idea of welcoming them into our folds is not an issue; rather, the legacy APC members should go to their various wards and LGAs to apologize to our members suffering the pains of their violent attacks and mistreatment, they should show remorse and make peace with those they once tormented; they should humble themselves and plead to be integrated into the party. They should stop bragging that they will take over the structure of APC in Delta State.
I am aware that the leadership of our great party, the APC is working on plans for peaceful coexistence amongst us, and I have absolute confidence in their ability to secure a good deal for APC faithful across the state.
Whatever agreement that is reached should trickle down to the LGA and ward levels.
As we await an official statement from our leaders regarding the terms of the surrender reached with the defunct PDP, sketchy information coming in indicated that the Delta State executive council will be dissolved; this should extend to all the administrative structures of the demised Delta PDP-led government, which should include the dissolution of all the Delta state-owned Boards of institutions, agencies and parastatals, our members should be appointed to viable offices in the new unity government that will be inaugurated at the end of the restructuring and in compliance with the agreement reached.
The same should apply to positions like Senior Special Advisers, Senior Special Assistants, Special Assistants, and other positions, APC members should have appreciable numbers of these positions.
Local government executive councils should also be dissolved to give room for the appointment of APC members as secretaries to Local government councils, secretaries to Local Education Authorities, and Supervisory Councilors, including task force members.
This is normal since all the capitulated PDP structures are now inherited by the APC.
Furthermore, APC contractors should be patronized without discrimination.
The Structure of APC in the state should remain with the original APC, this is understandable and is the universally acceptable norm. An MD of a bank who runs his bank to bankruptcy is not expected to be rewarded with an appointment as an MD of another healthy bank. Likewise, a general who leads his troop to capitulation cannot request to be appointed to command the troop of the victors.
Handing the APC structure to those who destroyed their party will be a recipe for disaster for our party.
We should forget the empty rhetoric from those betrayers; their sinister motive for surrendering to our party is very clear to even kids in Delta State.
1. They took the unholy action to protect their loot and avoid further harassment from the anti-graft agencies.
2. They want to use our party as a haven to regroup and later launch a deadly comeback
3. They want to continue to have unhindered access to Delta state resources.
4. If Governor Oborevwori is by any mistake given a second term, it means former governor Okowa will have a fourth term (16 solid years) in charge of Delta State coffer.
5. We do not need any soothsayer to tell us that by 2029, they will be shopping for another political party and looking for another Northern presidential candidate to finance in exchange for a VP slot - running mate.
How Okowa pulls off the mass capitulation of the PDP is stunningly amazing. He has once again demonstrated that he is a grandmaster on the political chessboard, in the act of deceit, Okowa is a bad boy (Fejiro Oliver), but it should not always be a win-win situation for him, that is why we must ensure that the legacy APC will have nothing to do with the Delta APC structure. They should be placed on probation for some months until after our party conventions.
APC faithful, who have been toiling, carrying the flag of the party all these years should not be treated like suckers and losers (Donald J. Trump)
Let's not forget that the people we are dealing with are serial betrayers. Leopards never shed their spots.
