I wish to ask, was these civilians part of the ruling class? Was Northern masses killed by the January coupists. Do coup plotters do it for their people? Why must people who have no business with government or leadership be killed after you have successfully taken over power and killed the political leaders.

Like General Alabi-Isama pointed out "not only that they wanted to kill the Igbos, they wanted to take over their properties and home". They r***d their wives and daughters whom they hitherto admired and had no reach. That was envy, hate, greed and robbery combined.

As you can hear from Ojukwu, even when Igbos were running in their vehicles to safety, their vehicles were stopped and they were killed. Thousands of them!

The Igbos were forced to go to their own territory according to the Brithish reporter. While all these happened, the Gen Gowon led government did not stop it. So it is right to say that the government supported the killing. If you were the Igbo what would you have done differently.
