NEW YEAR MESSAGE FROM THE VICE-CHANCELLOR
Dear Members of the University Community,
Happy New Year! I hope this message finds you and your families in good health and high spirits as we welcome the year 2025. Today marks not only the beginning of a new year but also the commencement of my tenure as the 7th substantive Vice Chancellor of the University of Abuja. I am deeply humbled by the trust and confidence placed in me to lead this esteemed institution at such a pivotal moment in its history.
When I joined the University of Abuja as a Lecturer II, I could not have envisioned the journey that lay ahead. Over the years, by the grace of God, I have had the privilege of advancing through the ranks and serving our University in various capacities. Each role imparted valuable lessons and deepened my commitment to our institution’s mission and vision. Today, I stand before you as Vice Chancellor, grateful for the unwavering support of our University community and determined to lead with humility, transparency, and steadfast dedication to excellence.
Over the past six months as Acting Vice Chancellor, I have had the honour of collaborating closely with many of you. Together, we have navigated challenges, celebrated milestones, and laid the groundwork for transformative changes to propel our institution forward. These experiences have reinforced my resolve to lead with a clear vision for our future and a collaborative approach that ensures inclusivity and progress for all.
As we embark on this new chapter, I wish to share my aspirations for our University. The University of Abuja holds a unique and significant place in Nigeria’s educational landscape. As the nation’s capital university, we bear the responsibility not only to educate but also to inspire, innovate, and lead. My vision is for our University to flourish as a centre of academic excellence, groundbreaking research, digital transformation, and inclusivity.
Achieving this vision requires the collective effort of our entire University community— staff, students, alumni, and other stakeholders. I firmly believe in the power of collaboration; our combined strengths can yield extraordinary results. I sincerely seek your unwavering support as we embark on this journey together. Let us heal divisions, strengthen partnerships, and cultivate an environment where everyone has the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to our shared goals.
To our esteemed students, you are the heart of this University. Your success is our foremost priority, and your aspirations fuel our drive for excellence. We are committed to providing you with a supportive and enriching environment that fosters academic achievement, personal growth, and prepares you to be leaders and innovators in our society. I encourage you to engage actively, and take full advantage of the opportunities that lie ahead.
In the coming months and years, I will prioritise fostering a culture of transparency, accountability, and shared purpose. This entails listening to your ideas, addressing your concerns, and working tirelessly to ensure that our institution remains a source of pride for all. Whether in teaching, research, administration, or service, your contributions are the bedrock of our collective success, and I deeply value the role each of you plays in shaping the University of Abuja.
As we begin this new year, let us remember that the future of our University lies in our hands. Together, we can achieve milestones that will not only define our institution’s legacy but also positively impact the lives of those we serve. Let us strive for excellence, embrace innovation, and foster an environment of mutual respect and inclusivity.
Once again, I wish you all a prosperous and fulfilling 2025. May it be a year of growth, progress, and shared accomplishments for each of us individually and for our University as a whole. I look forward to working with all of you as we write this next chapter of our story together.
Thank you for your unwavering dedication, and may God bless our efforts abundantly.
Warm regards,
Aisha
