"LOOMING FOOD CRISIS IN THE NORTH" . . .

Northerners have become slaves to petroleum products and menial jobs in the south.

Farming that Northerners are known for have been discarded.

We have become slaves to Igbo spare parts and pharmaceutical dealers.

We keep buying spare parts and drugs from Igbo traders.

We sell our lands and properties to Igbos and Yorubas.

Our excuses on insecurity is flimsy because we refused to come together and flush the bad eggs amongst us; let's take the fight to the criminals on the same day and recapture our farm lands.

What is the technology behind tomatoes, onions and pepper planting as if we have not planted them when we are children.

Areas that plant tomatoes, pepper, onions are Kaduna, Kano, kebbi Zamfara, Jigawa, Plateau, Sokoto states have been left fallow.

Northern governments especially LGs don't see reasons to mobilise their citizens to go on these empowerment crops; think of the money of a trailer load taken to the south in a day ?

All our Governors and LG chairmen are so fixated on Federal Allocation forgetting that we can make more money from Agriculture than what we are getting from Abuja.

It is a big shame on us in the north.

The Northern region is richly blessed with land, good weather, good topography, surface and underground water, having river basins for irrigation.

If harnessed properly, there will be all year cropping !

Ministries of agriculture, traditional and religious leaders should encourage northerners to plant fruits, cash and food crops; the rich amongst us should build industries that will add value to the produce like canning them for sales internally and for exports

Million Naira worth of pepper, onions and tomatoes are bought in the south on a daily basis which means there are markets.

Imagine what northerners will gain in one month, do I hear you say billions on tomatoes, onions and pepper only?

On security, we should allow southerners to come down to the north and purchase crops they needed.

It is interesting to know that Northerners cover many distance to the south to sell, covering over 700 Kilometers and come back with billions of Naira.

Yet the nineteen northern state Governors continue to fold their hands and allow this economic opportunity slip their citizens helplessly.

There is no state in the north that will not be making money monthly as IGR if we can leverage on scaling up agriculture and motor parks tax.

We just sit down under the tree and be generating all manners of childish excuses for economic downturn.

Another area is for the northern state Governors and LG chairmen to go is creating enabling environment and encourage people to go for animal, fishes and birds farming 🐟🐪🐄🐑🐏🐓🦃🐇🦤.

Encourage people to go for cows, rabbits, camels, goats sheep, pigs, grasscutters, chickens, pigeons, ducks, guinea fowls, ostrich, rats farming.

There are ready made markets for protein in the north and southern Nigeria.

It is not rocket science in rearing animals, fishes and birds that we cannot do in the north to take advantage of the market.

We can't afford to be lazing down and be complaining about hunger.

It is a big shame!

I am not an Agriculturist but I think a hectare of land is about the size of a 15 plots of land or about 2.5 acres.

1 Hectare will give you 50 bags of Rice if properly cultivated.

1 Hectare will give you 100 Bags of cassava (rogo) for Garri.

Imagine the quantities of tomatoes, onions and pepper we can get from just 1 hectare of land.

Yet we have millions of uncultivated hectares.

The Local Government Areas are the third tier of government and they have responsibilities to the people as the lowest level of government.

They also receive allocations from the centre apart from
the IGR.

Methink some percentage of these monies should be plugged judiciously to empower rural farmers.

Lest I forget, one of the duties of Local Government Areas according to the 4th schedule of the 1999 constitution includes food production and agricultural development.

Imagine northern LGAs putting 15% of their annual income into Agricultural Development, cumulatively we are going to have about billions of Naira monthly and about tillion Naira annually.

If LGA in the north can invest 15% of their income annually into food production in just 1 Year, will the food inflation be like this?

Will our youths be roaming the streets aimlessly with no jobs?

Haba! If monies are chanelled to food production, there will be massive creation of direct and indirect Jobs, MSME, industrial growth, railways and development etc.

Northerners sit down and expect the Governors to start growing tomatoes or pepper inside government houses and sharing it to their homes?

We must wake up and improve the economic status of Northerners in Nigeria.

We are at the bottom of the ladder.

We are not doing anything apart from selling of properties, cars, land. Promoting tribal and religious divide.

Northerners must develop
attitude to productive work !

Kebbi, Kwara, Niger states can meet more than 25% of the rice needs of Nigeria.

Sokoto, kebbi, Katsina, yobe, Borno states can meet the needs of millet. Zamfara, Kaduna, Katsina states can meet the needs of maize. Nassarawa, Benue, Niger states can meet the needs of yams, cassava. Kaduna state can meet the needs of soya beans.

Borno, Niger, Kaduna, Zamfara states can meet the needs of beans. Kwara, Adamawa, kebbi can meet the needs of sugarcane.

For animal protein, most of the Northern states can deliver enough meat through modern ranching.

Northern Nigeria has places for fruits - cashew nuts, mangos, oranges, guava, etc.

Let's put our land to proper use.

Our state Governors and LG chairmen have to do a lot in agriculture since the Land Use Decree of 1978 have made them custodians of land.

No Igbo or Yoruba will develop the north apart from northerners, therefore we should identify our diversity, appreciate it and come together to develop our region.

Islamic Group, MURIC Raises Fresh Alarm, Rejects Sokoto Assembly's Bill To Limit Sultan's Powers..

June 26, 2024

•The group said that if passed into law, it will lead to the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammadu Sa'ad Abubakar, being stripped of certain powers.

The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has demanded a stop to an amendment of a bill titled Sokoto Emirate Council Amendment Bill meant to make some changes in the Sokoto State Emirate Council.

The MURIC demand comes as the Bill has passed through the first and second readings at the Sokoto State House of Assembly.

The group said that if passed into law, it will lead to the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammadu Sa'ad Abubakar, being stripped of certain powers.

The MURIC in a statement issued on Wednesday by its Executive Director, Professor Ishaq Akintola, condemned the amendment, saying it was an attempt to diminish the influence of the Sultan.

The group argued that it is the section of the chieftaincy law which empowers the governor to remove the Sultan that should be amended.

Akintola said "There are reports that the Sokoto State House of Assembly is currently rushing through a bill which is called the Emirate Council Amendment Bill.

The bill has passed through the first and second readings within a very short period.

"If passed into law, the Sultan of Sokoto will be stripped of certain powers including that of appointing the kingmakers and district heads without government approval.”

According to him, "This bill is outrageous, nauseating and anachronistic.

It is a direct attack on the traditional institution of Sokoto State.

Instead of entrenching the powers of the Sultan, it is an undisguised attempt at weakening his powers and making him less relevant in the scheme of traditional settings.

"In short, the governor is preparing the ground for dismantling the Sultanate Council and setting up his own personal Sultanate Council, a council that will be totally controlled from government house.

“That is the only logical explanation for his removal of 15 traditional rulers in a single day.

Ahmed Aliyu is exhibiting the symptoms of fascism, totalitarianism and prebendalism.

"Nigerian Muslims are already asking, 'Why the rush?'

Why are they rushing the bill if there is no hidden agenda?

The whole exercise is suggestive of political motivation.

The governor is barely one year in office and he has removed 15 traditional rulers.

“How many will he remove by the time he spends four years?

That is reckless.

It is acrobatic administrative reform at breakneck speed.

The governor needs to slow down.

"Were the offences of those 15 traditional rulers who were removed ever published?

Were they given the chance to defend themselves?

Were the reports of the investigations made public in order to conform with democratic norms and global best practices?”

Akintola said, “If these were not done, we demand a revisit of the deposition of the 15 traditional rulers, proper investigation by a non-partisan panel and the publication of the panel's findings.

Only then can Governor Ahmed Aliyu be deemed to have satisfied all righteousness in transparency, probity and accountability.”

He said "The state government came out yesterday to deny any plan to remove the Sultan but we can all see what it is doing secretly now.

What explanation does the governor have for the sudden interest in hijacking the Sultanate Council?

“This is further evidence that Governor Ahmed Aliyu of Sokoto State is deceiving Nigerian Muslims.

It is a manifestation of a strange crave for absolute power.

"In a letter to Bishop Mandell Creighton about how historians should judge the abuse of power by rulers, the 19th century British historian, Lord Acton (1834–1902) said, 'Power tends to corrupt, absolute power corrupts absolutely'.

"MURIC calls the attention of Sokoto lawmakers to this disturbing development.

What the good people of Sokoto State need now is a stable Sultanate Council.

That is our pride.

An ever-swinging traditional pendulum will cause fluctuation of values and norms.

The citizens will experience blurred vision, nightmarish dreams and scattered goals.

"We appeal to lawmakers in the Sokoto State House of Assembly to halt the progress of the current bill. Instead, they should turn to the section of the state's chieftaincy law which empowers the governor to remove the Sultan with a view to amending it in such a way that will exempt the Sultan from dethronement.

This is necessary in the interest of the unity of the Ummah.

"It has become mandatory to exempt the Sultan from the possibility of deposition before a governor who will be more radical than Colonel Muazu and more reckless than Ahmed Aliyu takes the center stage and then all of us will shout in unison, 'Oh God!
What have we done?'"

Ousmane Yara opens up on , Alpha Conde, Guinea

A few days after a viral video showing President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu & Lagos State Governor,, in a helicopter belonging to the Guinean govt surfaced, the man at the centre of it all, Amb. Ousmane Yara, has exclusively revealed to Daily Sun what transpired.

In a chanced meeting with Daily Sun in a highbrow Abuja hotel on Sunday, Yara opened up on the relationship Tinubu, former Guinean President, Alpha Conde & him had.

He also shed light on Tinubu’s special recognition by the Guinean government under Conde.

Yara, a Guinean, who is Ambassador African Union (AU) Agenda 2063, told Daily Sun that the viral video was shot sometime in 2016 when Tinubu visited Guinea as guest of then President Conde during the country’s independence anniversary celebration.

He said that Tinubu, him (Yara) and Sanwo-Olu, who was not governor then, were travelling in the helicopter from Guinean capital to Mamu, in the Fula region of the country, to attend independence anniversary celebration, as, according to him, then President Conde used to move the state function related to the anniversary from region to region every year, when he was in power.

Yara revealed that Tinubu first visited Guinea in 2015 after he hosted former President Conde in Lagos earlier. According to him, the president-elect’s attendance of Guinea’s independence anniversary celebration in 2016 was his second as guest of former President Conde.

He said: “Through one of Tinubu’s aides at that time, who is now a minister in the government of 🇳🇬, I facilitated a meeting between President Conde & Tinubu. President Conde was going for reelection, for the second term, in office then in 2015. He came to Nigeria to see Tinubu, who organised a dinner in his honour. At the dinner, Tinubu invited many Nigerian businessmen and others.

“Tinubu spent only one day and travelled to London from there, but left the team he came with to continue engagement with Guinean officials on how to transform Guinea. The team and Guinean government officials worked for three days, and came up with an economic roadmap.”

Amb Yara said that thrilled by Tinubu’s support for his reelection and for bringing the team that worked with Guinea officials to chart an economic and development agenda, President Conde invited Tinubu to the independence anniversary in 2016.

“President Conde invited Tinubu to the independence anniversary. Since the official function at every independence anniversary was done in different regions, Tinubu was required to fly from the country’s capital, in a helicopter, to Mamu, where that year’s event held. That was the video being circulated. At the independence anniversary celebration, President Conde gave Tinubu the honour and privilege of a president, in appreciation of what he did for him during his reelection bid and towards economic development of Guinea.”

Yara said it was in order to show appreciation to Tinubu that former President Conde gave him a “Special Envoy” status.

“Conde recognised Tinubu as a pan-Africanist and saw him as a special envoy,” Yara said.

The AU Ambassador said that governments extend honorary citizenship to important people who may not be their citizens as a mark of recognition of their contributions to socio-economic and political developments in the countries, which does not make such persons citizens of the countries.

Daily Sun findings from Wikipedia is that honorary citizenship is a “status bestowed by a city or other government on a foreign or native individual whom it considers to be especially admirable or otherwise worthy of the distinction. The honour usually is symbolic and does not confer any change to citizenship or nationality.”

Yara said Tinubu, being a friend of Conde, is not strange as individuals and politicians all over the world have presidents as friends.

He revealed that many Nigerian politicians and businessmen were friends of their president.
