Adamawa State Polytechnic Holds Cultural Day as Part of Students’ Week 2026
Adamawa State Polytechnic, Yola, on Saturday held its Cultural Day celebration as part of activities marking the institution’s ongoing Students’ Week 2026, which commenced on Monday.
The colourful event brought together students and members of the Polytechnic community to celebrate Nigeria’s rich cultural diversity, promote unity and provide students with an opportunity to appreciate and showcase the traditions, languages, dress, music and cultural heritage of different ethnic groups.
Speaking during the event, the Acting Rector of the Polytechnic, Dr. Harrison Edan Mbasumai, represented by the Registrar, Mallam Sani Ibrahim Bawale, commended the students for their impressive participation and urged them to see the Cultural Day not merely as entertainment, but as an opportunity to learn, appreciate and preserve the diverse cultural heritage of the society.
The Acting Rector charged the students to respect one another’s cultural backgrounds and use the platform to promote peaceful coexistence, unity and mutual understanding. He also encouraged them to remain focused on their academic pursuits while participating responsibly in activities designed to develop their talents, confidence and leadership qualities.
He noted that cultural diversity remains an important strength of Nigeria and stressed the need for young people to protect and promote their cultural heritage while embracing values that foster peace, tolerance and national unity.
The highlight of the celebration was the colourful display of cultural heritage by students representing various ethnic groups, including Nunguraba, Shuwa Arab, Fulani, Margi, Ga’anda, Yungur, Bwatiye, Lala, Mayah, Taraba, Hausa, Burah, Kilba, Dera, Mbula, Chamba, Kamwe, Sukur and Kanuri, among others, through traditional attire, music, dances and other cultural performances.
