TINUBU SIGNS STUDENTS LOAN BILL —

EDUCATION BANK TO BE ESTABLISHED

President Bola Tinubu has signed the student loan bill into law.

Tinubu signed the bill on Monday at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

In November 2022, the legislation, which seeks to provide financial assistance to Nigerian students in tertiary institutions, was passed by the national assembly.

The bill was sponsored by Femi Gbajabiamila, immediate-past speaker of the house of representatives.

Dele Alake, a former Lagos commissioner of information and strategy, announced the signing of the bill to state house correspondents.

The legislation allows Nigerian students in tertiary institutions to access interest-free loans from the Nigerian education loan fund.

The legislation provides for the establishment of the Nigerian education bank, which will have the power to administer, supervise, coordinate, and monitor the management of student loans in the country.

Based on the provisions of the legislation, the bank is expected to receive applications for student loans through higher institutions on behalf of the applicants and screen them.

FUD IJMB STUDENT WINS 2023 FACE OF NIGERIA BEAUTY PAGEANT

An Interim Joint & Matriculation Board (IJMB) student from of the Federal University Dutse, Miss John Gift Manayi has won the 2023 Under-28 Face of Nigeria, Abuja Beauty Pageant Contest. The modest Cuft beat 18 other contestants in the competition held in Abuja.

Presenting her crown to the Registrar, Federal University Dutse, Alhaji Abubakar Mijinyawa, the beauty queen stated that her decision to present her crown to the University authority was to inform them that the solid foundations being laid in the institution were already yielding a positive results, adding that students of the University have the capacity to compete favourably with their peers anywhere in the world because of the quality of training they are being exposed to.

She appealed to her fellow students to continue to support her through e-voting in the forthcoming pageantry competition which will commence between August and July 2023.

In his response, Alhaji Abubakar Mijinyawa commended her for making FUD proud and advised her to remain focused in her studies and to continue to be a good ambassador of the University in all her endeavours.

In his remarks, the Dean Student Affairs, Prof. Ahmad Muhammad Gumel promised the queen his unflinching support by informing students' unions on the development for her to get more votes in the forthcoming competition.

Earlier, the Vice-Chancellor, Federal University Dutse Prof. Abdulkarim Sabo Mohammed congratulated the queen and thanked her for being a good ambassador of the University.
