The Abia state police command says the 35-year-old woman, Nwoko Gift from Imo State, who was caught on camera ass@ulting her 12-year-old niece, Miss EBo Chimamanda, while armed with a Kitchen kn!fe, will be charged to court for attempted m .

Confirming her arrest to newsmen in a press release, the spokesperson of the command, DSP Maureen Chianaka, said preliminary investigation reveals that on July 5, Mrs. Nwoko who resides at IBB Housing Estate, Umuahia, attempted to k!ll Miss Ebo Chimamanda, who stays with her, on the basis that she refused to spread the clothes she was asked to spread before the suspect (Mrs. Gift) left for the market. Investigation also revealed that the suspect has repeatedly be@ten and has been threatening to k!ll young Miss Chimamanda.

Chinaka said operatives from the World Bank Divisional Police Headquarters, Umuahia, raced to the scene, leveraging on actionable intelligence, rescued the victim, apprehended the suspect, and recovered the exhibit knife.

The police imagemaker said the investigation is ongoing, as the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), and the suspect will be charged with attempted m upon conclusion of the investigation.

One Dead, 10 Injured in Herder-Farmer Clash in Bali

BALI — A wave of violence has once again disrupted the peace in Taraba State, as a farmer-herder dispute in Pangri community, Bali Local Government Area, escalated into a deadly confrontation on Sunday, July 5, 2026.
The incident, which resulted in one fatality and left over 10 individuals with various degrees of injuries, occurred despite recent efforts by the state government to promote peace and security.
How the Crisis Unfolded
According to the District Head of Pangri, Alhaji Aliyu Abdullahi Pangri, the tension began when a local farmer reported that cattle were grazing on his farmland. Upon escalating the matter to a nearby police checkpoint, an argument reportedly erupted between the herders and the officers on duty.
The situation spiraled out of control when some of the herders allegedly attacked the police officers with cutlasses. In the ensuing confrontation, a distress shot fired by security personnel resulted in the death of one herder. The fatality subsequently triggered further unrest in the community.
Official Response and Current Situation
The Chairman of Bali Local Government Council, Habila Bala Balasa, has strongly condemned the violence, describing it as "unfortunate and unacceptable." Addressing the community, he warned that the local government would not tolerate any breach of law and order and vowed that those responsible for instigating or fueling the crisis would face the full weight of the law.
Taraba State Police Public Relations Officer, SP James Lashen Saminu Victor Mshelizah, confirmed the incident and assured the public that normalcy has been restored. He noted that the victims of the clash are currently receiving medical treatment at the Bali General Hospital, while investigations are underway to determine the exact circumstances and prevent further outbreaks.
A Growing Security Concern
This tragedy in Bali follows closely on the heels of another violent outburst in the Gwomu community of Karim Lamido LGA just days prior, where three people were killed and several villages burned. With these back-to-back incidents, stakeholders across Taraba are being urged to intensify peace-building efforts and avoid retaliatory measures that could further destabilize the region.

People should help the authorities identify this woman so the allegations can be properly investigated. If you cannot care for your maid as you would your own child, please return her to her parents.

_ Troops of Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) have rescued 10 National Examinations Council (NECO) candidates and teachers abducted by suspected ISWAP terrorists during an attack on Lassa Community in Askira/Uba Local Government Area of Borno State.
