The President/ CEO of the Nigerian Cancer Society (NCS) , Prof. Abidemi Omonisi mourns the Death of former President Muhammadu Buhari.

The President/ CEO of NCS has expressed condolences on the passing of former President Muhammadu Buhari. Prof. Omonisi mentioned that, the former President Muhammadu Buhari was very committed to the fight against cancer . He inaugurated the Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority ( NSIA) and Lagos University Teaching Hospital ( LUTH) state - of - the- art Cancer Centre, Sign into law the National Institute for Cancer Research and Treatment ( Establishment) Act of 2017 and appointed the Pioneer Director- General, funded the Cancer Health Fund ( CHF) , designated Six Federal Tertiary Health Institutions as Oncology Centres of Excellence among others.

These efforts will have a lasting impact on Nigeria's Oncology landscape . The NCS President's tribute reflects the former President's uncommon commitment in improving treatment outcomes for cancer patients and survivors.

The President/CEO of the Nigerian Cancer Society extended condolences to his immediate family, the President of the Federal Government of Nigeria, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the people of Daura , friends and associates.

The President/CEO of the Nigerian Cancer Society, Prof. Abidemi Omonisi has directed the following:

1. All NCS WhatsApp Platforms should be frozen for 24hrs from 10.00am today, Monday, 14th July, 2025 to Tuesday, 15th July, 2025. This is to mourn the ex-President Muhammadu Buhari.

2. That , the picture of the ex President Muhammadu Buhari should be used as DP of all our National Platforms until after his burial as a mark of respect. *All the NCS State Chapters should note and implement.*

3. The NCS President would be represented at his burial in Daura tomorrow, and to pay a Condolence Visit to the Emir of Daura, HRH. Alhaji Faruq Umar Faruq.

4. The NCS National Secretariat has been mandated , to Communicate an official letter of Condolences to his wife; Aisha Buhari, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu , Executive Governor of Katsina State; Dikko Umar Radda, Ph.D, the Nigerian Armed Forces and HRH. Alhaji Faruq Umar Faruq, Emir of Daura.

The NCS President, on behalf of the National Executive Council and the entire Cancer Stakeholders in the country enjoins the ex-President's family and loved ones to bear his demise with fortitude, while praying for Allah to forgives his shortcomings and grant him Aljannah Firdausi Amin" the President added.

In her words Her Excellency sai
-Yesterday, June 2, 2025, I joined, virtually, the Nigerian Cancer Society, ably led by Prof. Abidemi Omonisi, to commemorate , delivering a keynote address on the theme *“Celebrating Life, Raising Awareness, and Inspiring Hope for the Future.”*

As a 28-year breast cancer survivor and founder of , I reflected on the journey from silence and stigma to advocacy and collective action.

I emphasized that celebrating life is a tribute to survivors and a call to remember those we've lost. Awareness remains vital—too many still suffer due to myths, late diagnosis, and lack of information.

Hope for the future lies in access to affordable, compassionate care. We must strengthen survivor networks, improve health systems, and ensure government investment in cancer prevention and treatment.

To every survivor—your voice matters. To every patient—never lose hope. To government, NGOs, and advocates—our united action can make cancer survivorship a norm, not a miracle.

*Pro-Chancellor/Chairman Governing Council of Federal University Dutsin-Ma Assumes Duty, Meets Katsina State Governor*

The newly appointed Chairman of the Governing Council of the Federal University Dustin-Ma (FUDMA), His Excellency Alhaji Abubakar Jatau, has formally assumed duty. Upon his arrival in Katsina State, Alhaji Jatau, accompanied by other external and internal members of the Governing Council and the Acting Vice-Chancellor of the university, paid a courtesy visit to the State Governor, His Excellency Mallam Dikko Umaru Radda, Ph.D.

During the meeting, the Pro-Chancellor/Chairman Governing Council, H.E Alhaji Ali Abubakar Jatau, appreciated the Governor for the warm reception. He said the council would serve with integrity and follow due process in leading the university. “It’s an honour to be here. We seek your guidance and promise to uphold excellence,” H.E Jatau said.

He also congratulated Governor Radda for his impactful leadership and pledged the council’s full cooperation with the state government. Aknowledged the state's significant contributions to the institution’s growth and development.

In response, Governor Radda The Governor thanked them for the visit, describing FUDMA as a key institution — especially to Katsina State. Reaffirmed the commitment of the Katsina State Government and its people to continue supporting the Federal University Dutsin-Ma. He urged the Governing Council to foster close collaboration with the host community and relevant agencies to ensure a peaceful and productive operating environment for the university.

“Though it’s a federal university, we have a duty to support it as hosts,” Governor Radda said. “We’ll keep working together for justice, peace, and progress.” He wished the Acting Vice Chancellor well, urging him to lead fairly, respect university rules, and maintain a friendly academic space. Governor Radda reiterated "The state remains dedicated to the success of FUDMA. We charge the Council to prioritize harmonious relationships with the host community and security stakeholders to uphold stability and progress."

The visit underscores the strong partnership between the university and the Katsina State Government, highlighting shared goals for educational advancement and community engagement.
Among those present were Chief of Staff Abdulkadir Mamman Nasir, AUDA-NEPAD’s National Coordinator, Hon. Jabiru Salisu Tsauri and other top Katsina State government officials.

The meeting ended with a group photograph to mark the historic record of the visit.

Nigerian Cancer Society Paid a Courtesy Visit to 3AM Foundation:

The President//CEO of the Nigerian Cancer Society, Prof. Abidemi Omonisi led a delegation of the NEC members on Thursday 5/11/2024, to pay a courtesy visit to the Aisha Abba Abdullahi Memorial Foundation (3AM Foundation). This foundation is a non- profit organization dedicated to realizing a blood cancer- free Nigeria. The foundation was borne out of the various personal experiences as a primary caregiver to Aisha Abba Abdullahi, her daughter who battled blood cancer.

The founder of the foundation Hajiya Hussaina Baba-Innah gave an overview of the foundation's activities over the years, seeks for continuous collaboration with NCS.

The NCS President in his remarks, thanked the founder of 3AM Foundation, for her uncommon leadership style, honesty and hardwork as the Chairperson of the Welfare and Protocol Sub-Committee, of the recently concluded 2024 NCS AGM. The NCS President further mentioned that, Hajia Husseina Baba-Inna is always available to serve NCS whenever she is called upon.

The NCS President mentioned that, he decided to visit her organization because of her undiluted loyalty to the NCS. He assured the leadership of the foundation during his visit, that his administration will give all the necessary support to 3AM. The NCS President also remarked that, haematological malignancies ( blood cancers ) are one of the neglected cancers by policy makers in Nigeria yet these cancers are not uncommon in the country. The NCS President promised to address this neglect.

Special prayer was conducted for the late Aisha Abba Abdullahi, for Allah to forgive her shortcomings Amin.

The President personally donated the sum of fifty thousand naira (N50,000), to the foundation as his financial support, and urged the founder, to continue the good work.

The Founder/CEO Hajiya Hussaina Baba-Innah, thanked Mr. President for the visit and donation. She commended the leadership style of Mr. President and prayed that Allah will guide him in all his ways.

She promised her unalloyed support to this Administration and by extension the Nigerian Cancer Society.

RE: YOUTH MINISTER APPOINTMENT: -APC Young Leaders Council
DELEGATE POWER TO YOUR SON SEYI, APC LEADERS ASK TINUBU

I went through the letter and I concluded it was not authored by the APC Youth Leaders.
Mr. Kawu Musa Sulaiman, who's name and purported signature was appended is not the Jigawa State Youth Leader and can be charged for impersonation if he claims so.
If the authors of this letter were truly the Youth Leaders, then it is expected that they should know each other and would have raised an observation that among them there were impersonators before making the letter public or dissociate themselves from the letter after it had become public knowledge.

But why did they chose to ignore this letter?

In my opinion for three simple reasons.

First, the controversy surrounding the letter. Initially the headlines read, State Youth Leaders dumped Dayo and want Tinubu to appoint his son, Seyi Tinubu as Minister for Youth. In that situation, what choice do you have as a Youth Leaders? It is better to keep mum and see how it played out. You don't have to dissociate yourself, even the reader of the letter will know something was wrong and would dissociate you from the letter. Nobody would even think you were induced, the Nigerian inducement, to sign your name, after all the reader knows your signature can be copied and pasted as was probably done for the fake Jigawa State Youth Leader. So all they needed to do was wait for events to unfold, and unfold they did.

The second reason is, most of the State Youth Leaders, had already endorsed Dayo before the letter came out and it was public knowledge. When some of them were contacted, they claimed ignorance of the letter, which was normal in politics. Some of them dissociated themselves but individually not in group after the letter was made public.
The third reason is, after the letter was given a second life by correcting the first impression and changing it to HE the President should delegate his power to nominate Youth Minister to his son, it was even worse than the first. The life of the letter after reincarnation clearly depicted bad karma and bad karma results from intentional harm caused to others. Gautama Buddha stated that bad conduct (duccaritam) leads to hell or rebirth as an animal or ghost while good conduct (kalyanam) leads to birth in heaven or as a human being (Krishan 1983).

The second letter was clearly a ghost of the first. Who among the Youth Leaders do you think would associate himself with a ghost? Even Mr. Western, who is a master of the game could not do so.

Life would be much easier to Dayo if the powers of the president is delegated to his son Seyi Tinubu. Why? Because he will definitely pick Dayo. My simple reason is Dayo was unanimously endorsed by the Zonal Youth Leaders in an authentic press release, unlike this controversial fake press release clumpsyly packaged and released in response to the Zonal Youth Leaders release with impersonators and people with stolen mandates. The Youth have spoken and there is no need to continue dragging the issue.

The President's son would not like to be put in a situation where he presented a candidate and the Youth kick against it as was unchartably done when the first Minister was appointed, which lead to his redeployment to another Ministry. This should be avoided at all cost considering 2027, that is why I think in his wisdom the President chose to allow the youth to decide among themselves who to be appointed.

Some people are insinuating that the position has been politicized and now, just like elective office, some people are campaigning for different candidates. It is not so.

The Ministry now belongs to only the youth, which is a major achievement of the present youth leader Dayo Abdullahi Israel. Things may have been different if it were Ministry of Youth and Sports, Women and Culture, for instance, and the President could decide to pick an old man and claimed he is an expert on culture.

Now that the Youth had reacted to his choice, he had thrown the ball in their court and is allowing them to decide among themselves and present someone they can accept. The Youth Leaders, under the APC Deputy National Youth Leader, did not waste time to endorse Dayo.
Dayo has the support of his constituency, the APC Youth Leaders, where he is the National Leader.

Again, he has the support of the APC Youth Campaign Council, one out of the two campaign Councils for APC, which he helped in creating, the other being the Presidential Campaign Council (PCC).

Dayo is sure to have the support of the State Governors who he visited individually, as he is the only NWC member who visited the 36 states of the Federation, including the FCT and had physical contact with them.
Members of the APC Youth Campaign Council, who are many and served as Jagaban's Army in State Brigades are loyal APC and Dayo because they created them and it is a structure now under Dayo for APC.

It was clear that the Youth chosed merit over other considerations, like region, tribe and state of origin.

DAYO ISRAEL IS OUR MAN.

As the Chairman of the NYCN Lagos, it is important and critical to Specially appeal to the conscience of critical stakeholders in the Nigeria Youth Constituency to carefully handle the Matter of who becomes the next Minister of Youth for the Federal Republic of Nigeria to represent our yearnings and thoughts tenaciously. It will be a great disservice to be mute when it matters most.

I have read different thoughts on the Internet but none of the opinions says Dayo Israel does not have the Exposure, Qualification, Experience and Capacity to serve and deliver as a Minister at the Ministry of Youth. The reservations are not enough reasons for any form of culumny campaigns against his personality.

Leadership responsibilities and demands come with disagreement and uncontrollable situations but we must always show our Leaders that we can always manage our differences without bringing them into it.

This is the time to show Leadership and prove we can manage our differences Maturely without damaging our common front.

I am sure Asiwaju will not be happy seeing us go through this route. He and other Leaders will expect maturity and see us manage Conflict without disrespecting each other. This moment is a test for our generation and we must win Together.

I beg you all to Sheath your Sword.
