The President/ CEO of the Nigerian Cancer Society (NCS) , Prof. Abidemi Omonisi mourns the Death of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
The President/ CEO of NCS has expressed condolences on the passing of former President Muhammadu Buhari. Prof. Omonisi mentioned that, the former President Muhammadu Buhari was very committed to the fight against cancer . He inaugurated the Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority ( NSIA) and Lagos University Teaching Hospital ( LUTH) state - of - the- art Cancer Centre, Sign into law the National Institute for Cancer Research and Treatment ( Establishment) Act of 2017 and appointed the Pioneer Director- General, funded the Cancer Health Fund ( CHF) , designated Six Federal Tertiary Health Institutions as Oncology Centres of Excellence among others.
These efforts will have a lasting impact on Nigeria's Oncology landscape . The NCS President's tribute reflects the former President's uncommon commitment in improving treatment outcomes for cancer patients and survivors.
The President/CEO of the Nigerian Cancer Society extended condolences to his immediate family, the President of the Federal Government of Nigeria, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the people of Daura , friends and associates.
The President/CEO of the Nigerian Cancer Society, Prof. Abidemi Omonisi has directed the following:
1. All NCS WhatsApp Platforms should be frozen for 24hrs from 10.00am today, Monday, 14th July, 2025 to Tuesday, 15th July, 2025. This is to mourn the ex-President Muhammadu Buhari.
2. That , the picture of the ex President Muhammadu Buhari should be used as DP of all our National Platforms until after his burial as a mark of respect. *All the NCS State Chapters should note and implement.*
3. The NCS President would be represented at his burial in Daura tomorrow, and to pay a Condolence Visit to the Emir of Daura, HRH. Alhaji Faruq Umar Faruq.
4. The NCS National Secretariat has been mandated , to Communicate an official letter of Condolences to his wife; Aisha Buhari, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu , Executive Governor of Katsina State; Dikko Umar Radda, Ph.D, the Nigerian Armed Forces and HRH. Alhaji Faruq Umar Faruq, Emir of Daura.
The NCS President, on behalf of the National Executive Council and the entire Cancer Stakeholders in the country enjoins the ex-President's family and loved ones to bear his demise with fortitude, while praying for Allah to forgives his shortcomings and grant him Aljannah Firdausi Amin" the President added.
