Electricity Improves After Frvstrated Resident Drops Casket At EEDC Office Over Poor Electricity,
In a dramatic protest against poor electricity supply, an unidentified person placed a white casket containing a dead chicken at the entrance of the EEDC (formerly NEPA) office in Egbu, Owerri, Imo State, around February 21, 2026.
The act was reportedly a symbolic "sacrifice" caused by ongoing complaints that local people pay their electricity bills but receive little or no power.
Humorously, the reporter noted that power suddenly improved afterward. The electricity company (still often called NEPA) is now supplying so much electricity to the area that people say it is "overwhelming"possibly because the workers got scared.
The incident highlights the ongoing frustration with unreliable power supply in Nigeria, where formal complaints often fail, but creative (or superstitious) protests sometimes get results at least temporarily.
No official response from EEDC has appeared yet.
