RECIPROCITY: KEY TO GROWTH AND SUCCESS IN THE CREATIVE INDUSTRY

The creative industry is a massive industry that encompasses a wide range of sectors ranging from art, design, media, advertisement, entertainment, music, architecture, fashion, and more.
To achieve growth and success in the creative industry, several key factors are responsible, which include reciprocity; developing skills and expertise; networking and collaboration; embracing technology; understanding your fans, audience and followers; developing entrepreneurial mindset, branding and promotion; adaptability and resilience; amongst other factors.
This article considers reciprocity as one of the key to growth and success in the creative industry.
According to Dictionary.com reciprocity is a relation or state in which two people or groups perform mutual or corresponding actions based on the actions of the other.
Reciprocity is an effective tool in the creative community. Creatives can exchange support, collaborate with each other, share their knowledge, skills, and resources with one another. These foster a sense of community and bring about collective growth.
It is established that Creatives, such as artists, writers, musicians, designers, content creators, producers, instrumentalist, and others, often face similar challenges and obstacles in their respective fields.
By practicing reciprocity, Creatives can establish a network of support where they can share ideas, offer feedback, and provide encouragement to one another. This reciprocal gestures can be in the following forms:
a. Collaboration: This where Creatives work on project together by combining their unique skills and perspectives to create arts and works greater than what they could have individually achieved. Through collaboration, knowledge and expertise is shared and learnt by the collaborators.
b. Mentorship: This is where an experience person who is known as a Mentor provide guidance. The Person being mentored is a Mentee who seeks to learn and develop the skills and expertise of a Mentor being an Expert. The mentor provides valuable insights, advice, and encouragement, helping the Mentee navigate the challenges of the field.
c. Feedback and Critique: Creatives can provide constructive feedback and critique on each other’s arts and works. This exchange help in refining ideas, improving techniques, shaping thoughts, and encouraging growth. Constructive criticism among Creatives enhances personal and professional development.
d. Sharing Resources: Creatives can share resources such as tools, hardware and software, materials, or share knowledge about opportunities, exhibitions, and platforms to showcase their works. Through sharing resources, Creatives can expand their reach and provide opportunities for growth and success.
e. Celebrating Success: Reciprocity among Creatives involves celebrating each other's achievements and milestones. Recognizing and acknowledging the accomplishments of fellow Creatives makes for a supportive Community, encouraging further growth and motivation.
Reciprocity among Creatives is not only beneficial to the individuals but also contributes to the overall advancement of the Creative field. With reciprocity, Creatives foster an environment of collaboration, innovation, competition and continuous learning, which ultimately raises standards and impacts creative endeavors as a whole.
