Plateau: Fresh Attack Reported in Barkin Ladi Saturday Evening

Gunmen attacked Sabon Layi community in Barkin Ladi LGA on Saturday, May 9, 2026, at about 6:15 p.m., according to residents and local officials.

Eyewitnesses told Jos Broadcast the attackers fired sporadically, causing panic as residents fled. One woman was reportedly killed and a man sustained serious gunshot injuries. He was taken to Jos University Teaching Hospital, JUTH, for treatment.

Rwang Tengwong, Publicity Secretary of the Berom Youth Moulders Association, said the assailants operated in large numbers and created fear across the community. He added that between April and May 9, at least 30 people have been killed in separate attacks around Barkin Ladi, with over 70 hectares of farmland destroyed.

Security operatives have been deployed to the area to prevent further violence.

This follows earlier attacks in Nding Susut community on May 5, where 5 people were killed, and disputed reports of an attack on mourners on May 6.
