A Tragic Loss: Remembering Peter

A shocking incident has shaken the Unijos community, as 23-year-old Nanpon Timnan took the life of fellow student Peter in the Rusau area of Jos. The motive behind this heinous act seems to be rooted in envy and jealousy, further fueled by substance abuse.

Let's learn from this tragic event and prioritize our well-being. Substance abuse can have devastating consequences, and it's crucial we support one another in making positive choices.

Remember Peter's Story

Let's keep Peter's memory alive and strive to create a community that values empathy, kindness, and respect. If you or someone you know is struggling, reach out to a trusted resource or support hotline.

Afternoon Jist!

Just now, Man A, a father of a seven-year-old girl was sitting outside his house, not far from where I work. He had sent his daughter to buy something from a nearby store when another man living in the same community, jokingly or not, called Man A’s daughter his wife.

The little girl came back and reported to her father what happened. Filled with anger and rage, he immediately approached the man and warned him never to refer to his daughter as his wife in any way.

Man B tried to explain that it was just a joke, but that statement fueled the preexisting anger.

The father of the seven-year-old rushed at him and gave him a serious beating this afternoon.

“Na from my wife e dey start before e go turn something else!”

Disgraced, man B left with a swollen face like he was stung by swam of bees.

Onlookers said the father of the girl overreacted, others said the other man deserved what he got.

A 33-Year-Old Man sex-ually difiled a 2-Year-9-Month-Old Girl — Justice is Needed

On 17th October, 2025, a 33-year-old man was accused to have r-ape a 2-year-9-month-old girl named Marya at Mista Ali area, along Jos-Zaria Road.

According to reports, the suspect allegedly gave the little girl alcohol, making her drunk before committing the heinous and evil act. When the matter was taken to the Police Station in Mista Ali, the suspect was apprehended and investigation carried at the Police Clinic around there, the medical team reported no signs of pe*******on, suspicion arouse as the result was not released to the family.

However, yesterday, the Founder and Director of TORRO Centre for Care & Support for Adolescent Children and Women, Mr. Suleiman Muhammad Sani, accompanied the child’s parents to Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH) for further medical evaluation.

The doctor at JUTH confirmed beyond reasonable doubts of forceful entry, as reflected in the pictures below (image blurred to avoid restrictions). The findings were deeply saddening and the images gory.

How It Happened:
The victim had gone out to play outside the compound when the suspect, who operates a nearby provision store, lured her.

It was not the first time he had acted suspiciously. On an earlier occasion, he reportedly gave the little girl alcohol. When her parents discovered this, they confronted him and threatened to report the matter to the police.

However, members of the community intervened, and the suspect promised never to repeat such behavior. Sadly, it is alleged that he has been known for similar acts of giving children alcohol.

Friday last week, he once again lured the child into his shop when her mother was inside the house, gave her alcohol and got her drunk, and went on to brutally commit the act.

It is so terrible and heartbreaking!!

Barely few days ago, a case of 65-year-old who defiled a 14-year-old was reported, we having limitations due to financial constraints on the parents side, and now this.

We are calling on the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Plateau State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, the Commissioner of Police Plateau State Police Command, the Ministry of Justice.

The Plateau State Government and all other relevant child protection and human rights organizations to ensure that this case is not compromised and most importantly: this innocent child receives justice and that the full weight of the law is brought against the perpetrator and anyone trying to shield him.
