₦200 JOS–BUKURU TRAIN FARE ATTRACTS PASSENGERS AS RAILWAY OPERATIONS IMPROVE IN PLATEAU

By Jamilu Abdullahi

The Nigeria Railway Corporation, Jos Branch, says passengers can travel from Jos to Bukuru by train for as little as ₦200, describing the service as affordable, safe, comfortable and less prone to accidents compared with other means of transportation.

The Corporation’s Plateau State Public Relations Officer, Hon. Adamu Abdullahi, disclosed this in an interview, saying the train departs Bukuru for Jos at 10 a.m., before returning from Jos to Bukuru at 4:50 p.m.

He said the train makes brief two-minute stops at Zarmaganda, Old Airport and Dogon Karfe.

Abdullahi said the railway station has also strengthened its workforce, particularly personnel responsible for monitoring and securing the railway route.

He added that the Corporation has submitted a request for an increase in the number of daily trips and expressed hope that the request would be approved.

He appreciated the Plateau State Government under Governor Caleb Mutfwang and the railway authorities for their support, while urging passengers to purchase their tickets before departure time.

He also cautioned members of the public against crossing or walking on the railway line when a train is approaching.

Some passengers and traders at the station said the improved railway service has reduced transportation costs and supported the growth of their businesses.

PLATEAU EDUCATION MINISTRY COMMENCES BECE RESIT EXAMINATION

By Jamilu Abdullahi

The Plateau State Ministry of Education is set to commence the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) resit examination in English Studies and Mathematics at designated centres across the state.

The resit examination for English Studies is scheduled for today, Wednesday, October 7, while Mathematics will follow tomorrow, Thursday, October 8, 2026.

The Director of the Education Resource Centre, Mr. Banktu Michael Yawat, says the examination is important for candidates seeking admission into Senior Secondary School One.

Mr. Yawat warned schools against admitting students into SS One without valid BECE results, describing the practice as an offence. He said the Ministry would sanction any school found admitting students without the required results.

The Director also urged parents and other stakeholders to access and verify candidates’ results using the BECE scratch card, noting that the results were released two weeks before the commencement of the new academic session.

He said the timely release of BECE certificate has been sustained since the coming of the administration of Governor Caleb Mutfwang, assuring that the 2026 BECE certificates would be released soon.

Reacting, the Plateau State Secretary of the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS), Hon. Lasing Binbal, commended the government for the timely release of the results.

He said NAPPS members have been directed to comply with proper admission procedures and desist from admitting students into SS One without valid BECE results.
