Jos North Assembly Seat: Abdulkadir Hassan Affirms Candidacy, Expresses Confidence as Court Fixes August 24 Hearing

The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the Jos North-North Constituency seat in the Plateau State House of Assembly, Hon. Abdulkadir Hassan, popularly known as S.L.A, has reassured his supporters that he remains the party's authentic candidate despite a recent interim order issued by the Federal High Court in Abuja.

Hassan made the assurance while reacting to an ex parte interim injunction granted by the court in Suit No. FHC/ABJ/CS/1618/2026, filed by Dr. Adamu Aliyu against the All Progressives Congress (APC), Hon. Abdulkadir Hassan, and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as first, second and third defendants, respectively.

The plaintiff is challenging the APC's nomination of Abdulkadir Hassan as its candidate for the Jos North-North State Assembly election and is seeking to prevent both the party and INEC from recognising him as the APC flag bearer.

According to court documents, the interim order was granted following an ex parte application—a legal procedure in which a judge hears only one party before the other parties are notified or given an opportunity to respond. Such orders are temporary and are typically intended to preserve the status quo pending a full hearing where all parties will present their arguments.

Legal observers note that the substantive hearing will provide the defendants with the opportunity to challenge the claims raised by the plaintiff. Among the issues expected to be canvassed are whether the plaintiff has the legal standing (locus standi) to contest the nomination, whether the suit was filed within the time prescribed by law, and whether the plaintiff exhausted the APC's internal dispute resolution mechanisms before approaching the court.

The plaintiff is also reported to be under investigation by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) over allegations of fraud. However, those allegations remain separate from the subject matter before the court and have yet to be determined by any court of law.

Speaking after the court's decision, Abdulkadir Hassan maintained that there was no cause for panic, expressing confidence that the legal process would ultimately affirm his candidacy.

He called on his supporters to remain peaceful, united and law-abiding, assuring them that the judiciary would provide all parties with a fair hearing.

"I remain optimistic that justice will prevail and that the will of the electorate will be upheld," he said, urging party faithful to remain focused ahead of the forthcoming general election.

The presiding judge, Hon. Justice Salim Olasupo Ibrahim, adjourned the matter to August 24, 2026, for the hearing of the substantive suit, where all parties are expected to present their cases before the court.

AAFAQ Foundation Urges Clerics to Shun Political Influence, Embrace Ethical Preaching

AAFAQ Educational Foundation has stressed the importance of the science of Islamic preaching, urging clerics to continuously equip themselves with sound knowledge to effectively guide society.

Making the call at a two-day capacity-building workshop for Imams and Ulama in Jos, the Foundation's National President, Dr. Abdulmutallib Ahmad Gidado, said the training was organised to strengthen the moral and intellectual capacity of Islamic scholars.

He disclosed that participants were taken through three newly published books—Makarimul Akhlaq, Asalibud Da'awah, and As-Siyasah Ash-Shar'iyyah—which were distributed free of charge to all participants.

Dr. Gidado urged clerics to uphold the ethics of Da'awah by speaking the truth at all times and avoiding partisan interests.

He cautioned Islamic scholars against becoming tools in the hands of politicians, urging them instead to remain independent voices of truth, justice, and moral guidance in society.

Corroborating the National President, the Plateau State Coordinator of the Foundation, Sheikh Abdulbasid Alhassan Sa'eed, charged the more than 150 participants drawn from different Islamic groups, including JIBWIS, Darika, and Shi'a, across the 17 Local Government Areas of Plateau State, to put the knowledge they acquired into practice in their respective communities.

He noted that the workshop was designed to promote unity, sound scholarship, and responsible leadership among Muslim clerics.

Speaking on behalf of the participants, Imam Muslim Jibril Hassan and Imam Yasir Salisu Sa'eedu commended the organisers, describing the workshop as timely and impactful.

They pledged to apply the lessons learned in their preaching and community engagements.

The two-day workshop, held at Semshak Hotel, Jos, featured lectures on ethics and morality, methods of Da'awah, Islamic policy and governance, as well as the objectives of the Shari'ah.

Resource persons included Prof. Isma'il Abdullahi, Prof. Nasir Muhammad Abdulhamid, Prof. Abdulrahman Lawal Adam, Prof. Abdulrahman Idris, Prof. Fatima Sani, Dr. Abdullahi Yusuf, Dr. Aminu Ishaq Sagagi, Dr. Danjuma Gwani, Flight Lieutenant Alhassan, and other scholars. Interactive question-and-answer sessions also formed part of the programme.
