One of the hardest truths I've accepted is that life keeps moving, whether I'm ready or not.

So I've stopped waiting to feel completely prepared before living.

Perfect timing has stolen enough years already...

If you watch Nigerians in the diaspora closely, you’ll notice a pattern.

They send millions home to buy land.

They:
- Build houses in Lekki.
- Estates in Abuja.
- Warehouses in Ogun.
- Land in Owerri, Aba and Onitsha.

But they rarely build operating businesses.

Ask them why and the answer is usually the same:

ā€œIf my eyes are not on it, it will grow wings.ā€

So they stay abroad:
* Running pharmacies
* Managing care homes
* Driving trucks
*sending money home to assets that sleep.

The land appreciates either.

But the business never starts.

Now here’s the interesting part:

A Nigerian in Lagos can start a business in London, put another Nigerian in charge, and sleep well.

But
that same Nigerian in London cannot start a business in Lagos, put a Nigerian in charge, and sleep at all.

* Same people.
* Same blood.
* Different environments.

This is not primarily a trust problem.

It is a systems problem.

The same Nigerian who won’t trust his brother to manage a supermarket in Lagos will gladly hire a Nigerian to run a logistics company in Manchester.

Why?

Because in Manchester, *the system enforces the agreement.

In Lagos, the agreement often enforces nothing.

Trust is not just about people.

It is about structure.

A Nigerian in Manchester trusts another Nigerian in Manchester because the system makes trust cheap.

A Nigerian in Lagos distrusts another Nigerian in Lagos because the system makes trust expensive.

The person is the same.

The environment changes the behaviour.

This is why smart business owners focus less on ā€œfinding honest peopleā€
and more on building systems.

Don’t recruit for character alone.
Build for accountability.

Don’t pray for honest employees.
Create structures where honesty is the easiest option.

Your brother in Manchester is not magically more honest than your brother in Mushin.

He is simply in an *environment where honesty pays better.

Change the environment,
and the behaviour changes too.
