As the Chairman House Committee on Federal Character, Hon. Wase has not only been a key player in legislative affairs but has also championed a wide range of initiatives that have transformed the lives of countless Nigerians. His tenure is characterized by robust legislative engagements, infrastructure development, healthcare advancements, and unwavering commitment to employment generation and security.

Legislative Empowerment through Tax Reform

One of Hon.Wase's most significant legislative contributions has been his involvement in the debate on tax reform bills aimed at reshaping Nigeria’s financial landscape. Aiming to create a more just and efficient tax system, he has advocated for policies that promote economic growth and enhance revenue generation while ensuring that the burdens of taxation do not fall disproportionately on the shoulders of everyday citizens. His tireless efforts in this domain reflect a vision for a prosperous Nigeria, wherein every citizen can benefit from fair tax policies.

Job Creation and Employment Initiatives

Hon. Wase’s commitment to facilitating permanent and pensionable employment has been instrumental in uplifting the economic status of his constituents. By collaborating with various stakeholders to create job opportunities, he has made substantial contributions toward reducing unemployment rates in his constituency and enhancing the overall livelihood of Nigerians. His work in this area is a testament to his belief that job creation is critical to fostering a stable and prosperous society.

Educational Advancements: Building a Knowledge-Driven Future

The commissioning of the National Open University Wase Study Centre stands as a monumental achievement in expanding educational access within the constituency. This initiative provides invaluable services, allowing eager learners to pursue higher education without the constraints of geographical barriers. Furthermore, the construction of the Smart Model School in Wase and classrooms in several primary and secondary schools showcases his dedication to improving educational infrastructure, thereby equipping students with essential skills for the future.

Dr. Wase has also been a strong proponent of sustained academic activity at the Police Secondary School Bashar, ensuring that the institution remains a cornerstone of quality education in the area. By investing in educational facilities, he is laying the groundwork for the next generation of leaders and innovators.

Advancements in Healthcare

Access to healthcare is vital for any community's well-being, and Dr. Wase has made significant strides in this arena. The establishment of the Federal Medical Centre in Wase and the National Orthopaedic Hospital in Jos provides vital healthcare services to the populace, ensuring that quality medical care is within reach for all. His focus on healthcare infrastructure underscores a commitment to the health and welfare of his constituents, promoting a healthier population capable of contributing to the nation's progress.

Infrastructure Development: Connecting Communities

Infrastructure development has been another focal point of Dr. Wase’s tenure. Key projects such as the construction of the Jarmai-Bashar-Karim Lamido Road, the Wase-Kadarko Road, and the Wase Bridge significantly enhance transportation and connectivity within and beyond the constituency. These projects not only facilitate the movement of people but also support commerce, ensuring that local businesses thrive and communities grow.

Furthermore, Dr. Wase's efforts in establishing the National Leather Institute,Bashar Centre reflect an understanding of the importance of vocational training in bolstering local economies.

Tackling Insecurity with Resolve

Recognizing that security is fundamental to development, Dr. Wase has prioritized efforts to enhance safety in his constituency. The construction of the Bashar Divisional Police Office and several outposts, combined with provisions for patrol vehicles and motorcycles to all police divisions and local volunteer groups in Wase Local Government Area, serve as a direct response to the pressing security challenges faced by the community. These initiatives not only build trust between law enforcement and residents but also create an environment conducive to growth and stability.

Electrification and Agricultural Empowerment

Under his leadership, Dr. Wase has championed the electrification of several villages and towns, bringing light and energy to areas previously lacking these essential services. This initiative opens doors for economic activities that depend on reliable electricity, significantly improving the quality of life for residents.

Additionally, recognizing the central role of agriculture in the local economy, Dr. Wase has provided 30 tractors and various agricultural implements to subsidized farming operations, enhancing productivity and making farming more accessible. His efforts extend to the provision of empowerment equipment such as motorcycles, tricycles, mini trucks, and sewing machines, which empower individuals to start businesses and generate income.

PRESIDENT TINUBU'S 2027 RE-ELECTION IDEA IS ALIVE AND HEALTHY

BY ABUBAKAR MUHAMMAD BADU

25/5/25

In recent weeks, I have come across various articles attempting to draw parallels between the political landscape of 2015, which culminated in the defeat of then-President Goodluck Jonathan, and the current sentiment among some Nigerians advocating for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027. These writers strive to enumerate a myriad of potential factors that could lead to a similar outcome, yet they seem fundamentally unable to identify the core issue that defined the 2015 electoral defeat: the contentious matter of zoning.

Zoning, while not explicitly enshrined in Nigeria's constitution, is deeply interwoven within the fabric of our political discourse. It exists as a gentleman's agreement among most of the prominent political parties, encouraging a rotational presidency designed to ensure equitable representation across Nigeria's diverse regions. The case of Jonathan in 2015 serves as a poignant reminder of the consequences that can arise when such arrangements are disregarded. In his pursuit of re-election, Jonathan's failure to adhere to the zoning agreement—a commitment he had initially made when he sought office in 2011—evoked a profound sense of betrayal amongst the Northern electorate, including prominent members of his own party, the PDP. This betrayal was pivotal in the shift of political allegiances that ultimately led to his defeat.

It is perplexing that some proponents of the current narrative do not recognize the dangers inherent in mirroring Jonathan’s missteps. To operate under the assumption that President Tinubu's re-election effort can be derailed by neglecting the principles of zoning, as Jonathan did, is both shortsighted and disregards the significant progress made in the political consciousness of the Nigerian electorate. President Tinubu, by contrast, has consistently advocated for fairness and inclusivity, as evidenced by his unwavering support for a Northern candidate in the 2015 elections—a move that resonated with many and reinforced the notion of equitable representation.

The Nigerian political landscape is undergoing a transformation, driven by an increasingly aware and politically savvy populace. Our national discourse must prioritize the importance of zoning, which fosters a sense of belonging among diverse ethnicities and regions. It is imperative that we reject the notion that zoning is inconsequential; such thinking often serves the selfish ambitions of a few at the expense of national unity. We must collectively champion the principles of fairness and good governance, underpinned by a commitment to zoning, for it represents a path towards a more cohesive and harmonious Nigeria.

In conclusion, the idea of re-election for President Bola Tinubu is not only alive but thriving. Any notion suggesting imminent demise or postponement of this initiative is unfounded and lacks substantive evidence. As we move towards the 2027 elections, it is crucial for all Nigerians—irrespective of party affiliation or region—to rally behind the principles of fairness and inclusivity, ensuring that our democratic practices reflect the shared aspirations of our great nation. We have the opportunity to learn from our past, to build a brighter future, and to ensure that every Nigerian feels a sense of ownership and pride in the governance of our beloved country.

Speaker, Tajudeen Abbas donates to victims of Plateau Attacks

The House of Representatives has donated the sum of N10 million to victims of recent attacks in Riyom Local Government Area (LGA) of Plateau State as part of ongoing relief efforts across affected communities in the state.

The donation was presented at the palace of the Paramount Ruler of Riyom, Da Gwom Rwey Riyom, Da Samuel Jok, by Hon. John Dafan, Member representing Shendam, Mikang, and Qua’an-Pan Federal Constituency, on behalf of the Speaker of the 10th Assembly, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas.

The relief support is part of a broader intervention by the House of Representatives, which earlier presented N50 million to the Plateau State Government and pledged an additional N50 million to be distributed directly to the most affected local government areas — Bokkos (N20 million), Bassa (N20 million), and Riyom (N10 million). This brings the total intervention package to N100 million.

Speaking during the cheque presentation, Hon. Dafan said the gesture reflects the Speaker’s compassion and deep concern for Nigerians affected by violent attacks. “The Speaker has continued to respond swiftly wherever such tragedies occur, and Plateau is no exception,” he stated. “We are here to not only deliver this support but also collaborate with local leaders to find lasting solutions.”

Barr. Solomon Mwantiri, National President of the Berom Youth Moulders Association (BYM-A), received the donation on behalf of the victims. He expressed gratitude for the support, describing it as a strong message that the federal government remains concerned about the plight of affected communities. “This is the second major support we’ve received, the first being from the First Lady, Senator Remi Tinubu. We are grateful and assure the government of our cooperation,” he said.

Hon. Engr. Fom Dalyop Chollom, Member representing Barkin Ladi/Riyom Federal Constituency, commended the Speaker’s swift response. “This support will go a long way in alleviating the suffering of the families affected by the persistent attacks. It’s time we begin identifying those who come into our communities with malicious intent,” he stated.

The Paramount Ruler of Riyom, Da Samuel Jok, also expressed appreciation to the delegation and praised the continued support of their representatives at the National Assembly. He called for the urgent implementation of the North Central Development Commission, saying it would provide sustained assistance to communities ravaged by insecurity. “We’ve seen the impact of similar commissions in other regions. It's time we see the same here,” he said.

Also present at the event were Hon. Yakubu Dati, Chairman of the Governing Council, Federal Polytechnic; Hon. Sati Shuwa, Chairman of Riyom LGA; Hon. Moses Dachung Dadon, Member representing Riyom in the Plateau State House of Assembly; and Rt. Hon. Datong Timothy, liaison officer for Riyom LGA, among others.

The donation is expected to provide some relief to residents who have suffered losses following the recent wave of violent attacks in the area.
