The Plateau State Government has rolled out plans to empower thousands of youths across digital innovation and agribusiness, signalling a new dawn under the inclusive leadership of Governor Caleb Mutfwang.
These initiatives were unveiled during a Youth Parley held at the Government House in Jos, Plateau state marking the governor’s second year in office.
With the theme “Celebrating Two Years of Youth-Inclusive Leadership,” the event brought together youth leaders and government officials to reflect, evaluate, and co-create the future of youth development in the state.
Addressing the gathering, Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Hon. Musa Ibrahim Ashoms, painted a picture of a government not just making promises but delivering transformative impact in the past two years.
Ashoms revealed a landmark partnership with the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA), Ibadan, to train 10,000 young people in batches, equipping them with skills to become agripreneurs and drivers of food security.
He added that 1,000 youths are set to benefit from the BARC Farm Youth Project, which aims to unlock opportunities in large-scale commercial agriculture.
On the digital front, the Commissioner said the government is preparing to train 100,000 Plateau youths in cutting-edge skills such as artificial intelligence, robotics, coding, blockchain, and data science, which is a transformative leap under the state’s Digital Literacy Roadmap.
He disclosed to the cheering youths plans to convert the iconic Standard Building in Jos into a global outsourcing and tech hub, in partnership with the Federal Ministry of Digital Economy.
He urged the youth to continue to support the Mutfwang led Government to ensure they get more evidence of governance.
In his remarks, Secretary to the State Government, Arch. Samuel Nanchang Jatau, urged young Plateau citizens to rise above ethnic and political divisions and focus on building a united and prosperous future.
Echoing the theme of inclusive growth, Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Gabriel Dewan, announced the submission of a Plateau Youth Agricultural Policy Plan to the governor — a policy that allows young farmers to access inputs and repay after harvest, ensuring sustainability without financial pressure.
He encouraged young people to take their futures seriously, through discipline, and self-development.
The parley also featured presentations from the Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Agriculture, ICT agencies, Plateau Express Services, and Plateau Environmental Protection and Sanitation Agency, PEPSA on land access for agriculture, environmental protection, responsible mining, and greater inclusion of young people in governance.
