Yari Accepts Appointment as APC 2027 Presidential Campaign Council DG

Senator Abdulaziz Yari Abubakar has formally accepted his appointment as the Director-General of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council for the 2027 general elections.

Yari, a former Governor of Zamfara State, expressed appreciation for the confidence reposed in him by the party’s leadership, describing the appointment as a call to greater responsibility and service to the party and the country.

In his first public reaction to the appointment, the former governor pledged to bring his experience, political network and organisational capacity to bear in the assignment.

He is expected to work closely with the party leadership, stakeholders and members across the country as the APC begins preparations for the 2027 presidential election.

The appointment places Yari at the centre of the APC’s electoral mobilisation and campaign strategy ahead of the 2027 polls, with responsibilities expected to include coordinating campaign structures, engaging stakeholders and strengthening the party’s nationwide mobilisation efforts.

The former governor has been an influential figure within the APC and has previously held senior political positions, including serving as Governor of Zamfara State and representing Zamfara West in the Senate.

His emergence as Director-General of the Presidential Campaign Council is therefore expected to bring significant political experience to the APC’s preparations for the 2027 presidential contest.

Mutfwang Resets Governance Structure, Swears in Three New Commissioners

Jos, Plateau State

Plateau State Governor, Barr. Caleb Mutfwang, has sworn in three newly appointed Commissioners into the State Executive Council as part of measures to strengthen the machinery of government, improve efficiency and accelerate service delivery across the state.

The new Commissioners are Hon. Ishaku Maren Yobo from Bokkos Local Government Area, Prof. Gloria Samuel from Bassa Local Government Area, and Comr. Prince Miaphen from Qua’an-Pan Local Government Area.

The swearing-in ceremony, held at the Victoria Gowon Auditorium, New Government House, Little Rayfield, Jos, saw Governor Mutfwang charge the new appointees to justify the confidence reposed in them by bringing competence, commitment and fresh ideas to the administration.

Governor Mutfwang said the appointments were part of his administration’s deliberate efforts to re-examine and reposition the governance structure in order to maximise the remaining period of its first term.

According to the Governor, with about nine months remaining in the administration’s first term, there was a need to make strategic adjustments that would enhance the implementation of government policies and programmes.

“We were elected to serve the people, and we want to ensure that we maximise the opportunity left at our disposal,” Mutfwang said.

The Governor disclosed that the Secretary to the State Government would release new postings to ministries, directing affected officials to ensure proper and effective handover.

He also announced plans for further reorganisation of ministries and departments, explaining that the objective was to place the government on a faster trajectory and improve efficiency in governance.

Mutfwang further disclosed that additional appointments, including Special Advisers, Senior Special Assistants and Special Assistants, would be made across the state to broaden participation and bring governance closer to the people.

Changes Not a Verdict on Former Commissioners

The Governor clarified that the changes in the State Executive Council should not be interpreted as a negative assessment of the performance of those who had previously served.

He described the former Commissioners as members of the administration’s larger family, stressing that the changes were driven by the need to reposition government and deploy individuals capable of adding greater value to the administration’s development agenda.

He also called for an end to perceived divisions within the governing political family, urging all members to work together in the collective interest of Plateau State.

Mutfwang said future appointments would be guided by broad-based considerations, competence and the capacity to contribute meaningfully to governance.

Mutfwang Speaks on Recent Security Challenges

The Governor also addressed the recent security incidents recorded in parts of Plateau State, describing the attacks as a setback but assuring citizens that his administration remained committed to protecting lives and property.

“We have the capacity, we have the determination, we have the willingness to secure the people of Plateau State,” he assured.

He said the government was reviewing existing security gaps and taking steps to strengthen the state’s security response, while urging citizens to continue supporting and praying for the administration.

Governor Mutfwang explained that the decision to proceed with the swearing-in ceremony despite the recent security incidents reflected the administration’s commitment to governance and its determination not to lose momentum in delivering on its mandate.

New Commissioners Pledge Commitment

Responding on behalf of the newly sworn-in Commissioners, Hon. Ishaku Maren Yobo thanked Governor Mutfwang for finding them worthy of appointment into the State Executive Council.

Yobo described their appointment as both a privilege and a responsibility, assuring the Governor that the new Commissioners would align themselves with the policy direction of the administration and work diligently to improve governance and service delivery.

He also assured the people of Plateau State that the new Commissioners would do their best to add value in their respective areas of responsibility.

“We want to assure the people of Plateau State that we will do all within our reach to add value to our respective areas of responsibility, by the special grace and mercies of God,” Yobo said.

He prayed for continued divine guidance and protection for the Governor, the administration and all those entrusted with responsibilities in government.

The ceremony was attended by senior government officials, political leaders, traditional rulers, stakeholders, family members of the new Commissioners and other guests.

Governor Mutfwang Commends APC National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda, for Securing Dam Project for Kanke

Jos, Plateau State

Governor Caleb Mutfwang has expressed profound appreciation to the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof Nentawe Yilwatda, for facilitating the approval of a dam project in Kanke Local Government Area of Plateau State.

In a statement issued by the Director of Press and Public Affairs to the Governor, Dr. Gyang Bere, Governor Mutfwang described the development as a significant milestone that will help address the long-standing challenge of water scarcity affecting communities in Kanke and its environs.

According to the Governor, the dam project, upon completion, will provide sustainable access to potable water, improve sanitation and hygiene, expand irrigation opportunities for farmers, boost agricultural productivity, and enhance the socio-economic well-being of the people.

JUST IN: EFCC Freezes Osun State Government Account at First Bank, Ten Days To Guber Election

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has frozen the Osun State Government’s account held with First Bank, just ten days ahead of the state’s governorship election.

Earlier today, Governor Ademola Adeleke alleged that the EFCC was preparing to freeze the state’s accounts as well as those of senior government officials. He described the move as an attempt to disrupt government operations ahead of the August 15 election.

Governor Adeleke insisted there is no legal basis for freezing the state government’s accounts and argued that the EFCC lacks the statutory authority to take such action.

He is now considering holding a press conference to address residents of the state on the matter.

Plateau Govt Clarifies Governor Mutfwang's Remarks to Igbo Leaders, Reaffirms Commitment to National Unity

Jos, Plateau State

The Plateau State Government has clarified the recent remarks made by Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang during an engagement with leaders of the Igbo community, stating that his comments have been taken out of context and misrepresented in sections of the media and on social media.

In a press statement issued on Wednesday by the Director of Press and Public Affairs to the Governor, Dr. Gyang Bere, the government said Governor Mutfwang's remarks were made in the spirit of appreciation, reconciliation, and national unity, stressing that they were intended to acknowledge the resilience, enterprise, and invaluable contributions of the Igbo community to the socio-economic development of Plateau State.

The statement noted that while the government appreciates the concerns expressed by Nigerians seeking clarification, it is concerned that certain portions of the Governor's speech were deliberately isolated and presented in a manner that does not reflect either the context of the engagement or the Governor's long-standing commitment to national cohesion.

According to the government, Governor Mutfwang did not, at any point, seek to diminish the painful experiences of any ethnic group or trivialise the historical realities surrounding the Nigerian Civil War. Rather, his message was centred on promoting reconciliation, mutual respect, and peaceful coexistence among all Nigerians.

The government further emphasised that the lessons of the Civil War should inspire greater national unity rather than reopen old divisions, noting that Nigeria's diversity remains one of its greatest strengths.

Highlighting Plateau State's rich history of inclusiveness, the statement described the state as one of Nigeria's foremost examples of peaceful coexistence, where citizens from different ethnic, religious, and cultural backgrounds have lived, worked, worshipped, and invested together for decades.

It recalled the foundational leadership of the late Joseph Dechi Gomwalk, the visionary administration of Chief Solomon Lar, and successive governments that have sustained Plateau's tradition of inclusiveness, making the state a welcoming home for the Igbo community and other Nigerians.

The government also linked Plateau's inclusive philosophy to the historic "No Victor, No Vanquished" declaration and the post-Civil War policy of Reconciliation, Rehabilitation, and Reconstruction (3Rs) championed by former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon, describing the policy as a globally recognised model for post-conflict reconciliation.

According to the statement, members of the Igbo community have made remarkable contributions to Plateau State in commerce, education, healthcare, industry, and other sectors, significantly contributing to the state's growth and development.

The Plateau State Government reaffirmed that Governor Mutfwang remains committed to preserving this legacy of inclusion and believes that the state's greatest strength lies in its ability to transform diversity into unity and shared prosperity.

The statement added that throughout his public service, Governor Mutfwang has consistently promoted dialogue over division, reconciliation over resentment, and hope over hostility, values that continue to define his leadership and policies.

The government therefore urged Nigerians to disregard interpretations that seek to attribute meanings to the Governor's remarks that were neither intended nor expressed, warning that such distortions only undermine efforts toward national cohesion.

It further called on citizens to resist every attempt to inflame ethnic or regional tensions and instead embrace unity, justice, mutual respect, and peaceful coexistence.

Reaffirming the Governor's commitment to inclusive governance, the statement stressed that every Nigerian, irrespective of ethnicity, religion, or place of origin, deserves dignity, equal opportunity, and a genuine sense of belonging.

The government thanked Nigerians for their understanding, goodwill, and continued support in promoting peace, unity, and national development.

INEC Nigeria Releases Official Campaign Timetable for the 2027 General Elections

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced the official campaign timetable for the 2027 General Elections in line with the provisions of the Electoral Act 2026.

Official Campaign Schedule

Presidential and National Assembly Elections
- Campaign Begins: Tuesday, 19 August 2026
- Campaign Ends: 15 January 2027, exactly 24 hours before the elections scheduled for 16 January 2027.

Governorship and State Houses of Assembly Elections
- Campaign Begins: Wednesday, 9 September 2026
- Campaign Ends: Friday, 5 February 2027, exactly 24 hours before the elections scheduled for 6 February 2027.

Key Provisions of the Electoral Act 2026

- Political campaigns may only commence 150 days before the date of an election.
- All campaigns must end 24 hours before polling day.
- Political parties, candidates, and supporters are prohibited from commencing campaigns before the officially approved dates, and INEC has indicated that violations may attract appropriate sanctions.
- The revised timetable aligns with the Electoral Act 2026 and replaces the earlier election schedule initially proposed by INEC.

Accordingly, political parties and candidates are expected to begin public campaigns—including rallies, media advertisements, voter engagement, and grassroots mobilization—from 19 August 2026 for the Presidential and National Assembly elections, and from 9 September 2026 for the Governorship and State Assembly elections.

All stakeholders are encouraged to comply fully with the approved timetable to ensure a peaceful, credible, and lawful electoral process.

l did not k!ll him, he d!ed on top of me” - Sani Abacha’s mistress says

The lady who was with former military Head of State, Gen. Sani Abacha, when he suddenly d;ed, said she didn’t k!ll him, claiming that he d!ed on top of her during in*******se.

A retired security operative, Dennis Amachree, said the lady, an Igbo pharmacist, made the confession when he interrogated her over Abacha’s mysterious d3ath, the Nation reported.

Amachree, who gave his own version of Abacha’s last moments, clarified that the former military ruler passed on around 4.05 am on June 8, 1998, at the Aso Villa, Abuja, in the presence of the lady during an intimate affair.

Abacha was Nigeria’s military ruler between November 1993 and July 1998 when he suddenly d!ed at 54.

Given the manner of his d3ath, there were speculations about what k!lled him and the circumstances of his d3ath.

“The lady pharmacist’s account, on whom Abacha apparently had a coitus-induced cardiac arrest, remains the true position, and puts an end to the conspiracy theories and half-truths that have gone viral,” he stressed.

Amachree, who was the Assistant Director of Operations and Intelligence at the Lagos State SSS Command, at the time of Abacha’s d3ath, emphasised that “any other narrative is an act of deceit and a disservice to our countrymen and women.”

He made the revelation in his 348-paged book, just released, titled: ‘DSS @40: My journey behind the shield.

The retired Assistant Director of Department of State Services (DSS) said after witnessing Abacha’s d3ath, the lady-pharmacist immediately joined the next flight to Lagos.

‘My team located and brought her to my office. I interrogated her myself. The first thing she said to me was : ‘I did not k!ll him, he d!ed on top of me.’ After her detailed account, I called the Director in Abuja, and she was immediately flown back,” the author said.
