Kaduna Assembly Speaker, Hon. Yusuf Dahiru Liman, Pays ₦100m NECO Fees For 1,000 Students, Pledges Continued Support For Education

The Speaker of the Kaduna State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Yusuf Dahiru Liman, has disbursed ₦100 million to support education and welfare initiatives in his constituency, with ₦40 million allocated to cover NECO examination fees for 1,000 secondary school students in Kaduna South Local Government Area.

The remaining ₦60 million was distributed as Sallah relief packages to party stakeholders and underprivileged residents of Makera and Kaduna South.

Liman, who represents Makera Constituency, made the announcement during the official launch of the NECO Scholarship Initiative in Kaduna. He revealed that the programme began in 2016 with only 100 students, but has now expanded to benefit 1,000 students.
“Education remains the most effective tool for youth empowerment. I am committed to sustaining this initiative beyond my tenure as Speaker,” Liman stated.

He also pledged to sponsor students for the UTME and disclosed that resit fees have been paid for over 500 students who previously failed their NECO exams.

The Speaker shared a personal reflection, noting the challenges he has faced during his political journey, including suspension from the Assembly and spinal paralysis, expressing gratitude to Governor Uba Sani for his support during those difficult times.
Liman praised the governor’s leadership, stating: “Governor Uba Sani has stayed focused on delivering projects without distractions. He has not borrowed a kobo, yet he is funding development from personal resources. I believe he will complete all abandoned projects from the last administration.”

He also urged more female students to apply in the next scholarship cycle, emphasizing inclusive access to education.

Speaking at the event, Malam Sani Liman Kila, Chief of Staff to the Governor, described the Speaker’s gesture as a significant boost to human capital development, reaffirming the state’s dedication to education, security, and infrastructure.

“Previously, routes like Birnin Gwari were unsafe, but today they are accessible under this administration,” he added.

Also present, APC Kaduna South Chairman, Hon. Yakubu Ibrahim Soso, hailed the Speaker’s commitment, describing the scholarships as an investment in future leadership.

A member of the Ulama Council, Mallam Ibrahim Mahe, urged the students to make the most of the opportunity, stressing that education is key to reducing social vices and driving societal development.

Kaduna ALGON Denies Vehicle Purchase Allegations Against Gov. Uba Sani, Threatens Legal Action

The Kaduna State chapter of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) has threatened to take legal action against Imrana Wakili, a social media user, over allegations made against Governor Uba Sani.

Wakili had claimed on X (formerly Twitter) that Governor Sani approved the purchase of vehicles worth billions of naira for local government chairmen, while simultaneously sacking doctors who went on strike to demand better wages. He alleged the government spent N4.6 billion on vehicles while doctors received only N137,000 monthly, the same salary they allegedly earned five years ago.

“Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State has begun sacking doctors because they have gone on strike to demand better pay,” Wakili wrote. “A state where the government is spending N4.6 billion on vehicles for LG chairmen claims that the best they can pay doctors is N137,000 per month.”

In response, ALGON described the allegations as “false and baseless,” demanding an immediate public apology and a retraction from Wakili. The group warned that failure to comply within seven days would result in legal action.

Muhammad Shehu, ALGON’s spokesperson in Kaduna, dismissed the document cited by Wakili as a fabrication meant to mislead the public and generate controversy.

“Governor Uba Sani has consistently prioritized fiscal discipline and cost-cutting since assuming office,” Shehu said in a statement. “The referenced document is fabricated, clearly intended to deceive the public and serve as clickbait for individuals attempting to discredit the administration.”

The group further accused Wakili of deliberately spreading misinformation to tarnish the governor’s image, especially as Kaduna marks Sani’s second anniversary in office.

“This calculated misinformation aims to undermine the remarkable achievements of His Excellency, Senator Uba Sani,” the statement added.

Fresh Crisis Hits Zazzau Emirate As Kaduna Assembly Receives Petition Against Emir Bamalli

Deposed Wazirin Zazzau, Ibrahim Muhammad–Aminu, has petitioned the Kaduna State House of Assembly, seeking reversal of the appointment of the 19th Emir of Zazzau, Ahmad Nuhu-Bamalli.

In the petition sent to the assembly speaker, Yusuf Dahiru–Liman, the former Waziri accused the immediate-past governor of the state, Nasir El-Rufai, of unlawfully installing Mr Bamalli as Emir in November 2020 in violation of established traditions and state laws.

Mr Ibrahim stated that the selection process conducted by the kingmakers was ignored, despite being carried out in accordance with the traditions and native laws of the Zazzau Emirate and the Chiefs [Appointment and Deposition] Law of Kaduna State.

According to him, the candidates nominated by the kingmakers are “Alhaji Bashir Aminu (Iyan Zazzau), Alhaji Muhammad Munir Ja’afaru (Madakin Zazzau, then Yariman Zazzau), and Aminu Shehu Idris (Turakin Zazzau).

“The current Emir, Ambassador Ahmad Nuhu Bamalli, was not among the nominees submitted to the state government. His selection was an imposition by the former governor, a move that disrespected our traditions, customs, and the law,” the petitioner asserted.

Mr Ibrahim also recalled how he was wrongly removed from his position as Waziri of Zazzau, arrested and arraigned without just cause.

He added that, “another individual, Alhaji Inuwa Aminu”, was appointed in his stead.

He argued that the title is traditionally held for life and cant be removed without any justification.

He, therefore appealed to the lawmakers to,” Recommend the reversal of the appointment of Amb. Ahmad Nuhu Bamalli as Emir of Zazzau, Reinstate him as the legitimate Waziri of Zazzau, order the payment of all salaries, allowances, and entitlements due to him from the date of his suspension, Uphold and protect the customs and conventions governing traditional institutions in Northern Nigeria”.

“The imposed Emir’s appointment violates Kaduna State Gazette No. 9 Vol. 54 of 7th October 2020 and the traditions of Zazzau Emirate. This is a plea to restore order, justice, and the sanctity of our traditional heritage,” the former Waziri added.

Nevertheless, I have reserved seven thousand in Israel—all whose knees have not bowed to Baal and whose mouths have not kissed him.”

Senators Now Receive At Least N2 Billion, Reps N1 Billion In Constituency Project Funds Since Fuel Subsidy Removal – Lawmaker Reveals Budget Padding

A Nigerian federal lawmaker has alleged that members of the National Assembly are now receiving unprecedented sums for constituency projects—funds often criticized for lack of transparency and widespread misuse.

Speaking at a public event in Osun State, the unnamed lawmaker revealed that following President Bola Tinubu’s removal of fuel subsidy, allocations to lawmakers have dramatically increased. According to him, no Senator currently receives less than N2 billion, while each member of the House of Representatives receives at least N1 billion in constituency project funding.

He linked the hike in allocations to the surge in federal revenue after the fuel subsidy removal, which has caused significant hardship for millions of Nigerians. “Once the subsidy was removed and governors started getting more money, the same applied to Senators and House members,” he said, adding that many of these projects are falsely perceived as being personally funded by lawmakers.

This revelation has fueled fresh criticism of corruption and budget manipulation in Nigeria’s legislature. Critics argue that constituency projects—meant to bring development to local communities—are often riddled with inflated costs, awarded to cronies, or left uncompleted. In many cases, the projects are ghost initiatives with little to no impact.

Despite trillions of naira allocated to such projects since 1999, numerous Nigerian communities still lack basic infrastructure such as clean water, schools, and healthcare. Meanwhile, ordinary citizens continue to grapple with inflation, economic hardship, and deteriorating public services, while lawmakers benefit from hefty, unaccountable budget allocations.
