Kaduna Assembly Speaker, Hon. Yusuf Dahiru Liman, Pays ₦100m NECO Fees For 1,000 Students, Pledges Continued Support For Education
The Speaker of the Kaduna State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Yusuf Dahiru Liman, has disbursed ₦100 million to support education and welfare initiatives in his constituency, with ₦40 million allocated to cover NECO examination fees for 1,000 secondary school students in Kaduna South Local Government Area.
The remaining ₦60 million was distributed as Sallah relief packages to party stakeholders and underprivileged residents of Makera and Kaduna South.
Liman, who represents Makera Constituency, made the announcement during the official launch of the NECO Scholarship Initiative in Kaduna. He revealed that the programme began in 2016 with only 100 students, but has now expanded to benefit 1,000 students.
“Education remains the most effective tool for youth empowerment. I am committed to sustaining this initiative beyond my tenure as Speaker,” Liman stated.
He also pledged to sponsor students for the UTME and disclosed that resit fees have been paid for over 500 students who previously failed their NECO exams.
The Speaker shared a personal reflection, noting the challenges he has faced during his political journey, including suspension from the Assembly and spinal paralysis, expressing gratitude to Governor Uba Sani for his support during those difficult times.
Liman praised the governor’s leadership, stating: “Governor Uba Sani has stayed focused on delivering projects without distractions. He has not borrowed a kobo, yet he is funding development from personal resources. I believe he will complete all abandoned projects from the last administration.”
He also urged more female students to apply in the next scholarship cycle, emphasizing inclusive access to education.
Speaking at the event, Malam Sani Liman Kila, Chief of Staff to the Governor, described the Speaker’s gesture as a significant boost to human capital development, reaffirming the state’s dedication to education, security, and infrastructure.
“Previously, routes like Birnin Gwari were unsafe, but today they are accessible under this administration,” he added.
Also present, APC Kaduna South Chairman, Hon. Yakubu Ibrahim Soso, hailed the Speaker’s commitment, describing the scholarships as an investment in future leadership.
A member of the Ulama Council, Mallam Ibrahim Mahe, urged the students to make the most of the opportunity, stressing that education is key to reducing social vices and driving societal development.
