Presidency Debunks Viral Rumour: Femi Gbajabiamila Remains Chief of Staff to President Tinubu

The Presidency has firmly dismissed circulating reports on social media claiming that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has replaced his Chief of Staff, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, with Principal Private Secretary Hakeem Muri-Okunola.

In an official statement released on Christmas Day by Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the Presidency described the claim as a complete fabrication designed to sow discord within the government.

"There is absolutely no truth to this story. We advise Nigerians to disregard it entirely," the statement read.

It emphasized that Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila continues to serve in his role as Chief of Staff, while Hakeem Muri-Okunola remains Principal Private Secretary. No replacement has taken place.

The Presidency attributed the viral falsehood to "mischievous purveyors of fake news" and urged media outlets and the public to always verify information before sharing or publishing.

The denial comes after several social media posts some dated as early as December 24 began spreading the unverified claim of a change in the Chief of Staff position, including graphics and "breaking" announcements that quickly gained traction online.

Minister of State for Finance, Dr. Doris Uzoka-Anite, Holds Meeting with Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR

The Minister of State for Finance, Dr. Doris Uzoka-Anite, met with the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Bashir Adewale Adeniyi.

The meeting comes amid ongoing efforts to diversify Nigeria's revenue base away from oil dependency, with the Nigeria Customs Service playing a pivotal role as one of the country's top non-oil revenue generators.

Sharing her reflections on the encounter, Dr. Uzoka-Anite expressed deep admiration for the Customs boss's leadership:

"It is always a distinct honor to meet with the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR.

β€œI truly applaud his visionary leadership and unwavering dedication to transforming the Nigeria Customs Service.

β€œHis efforts remain a cornerstone in advancing the Renewed Hope agenda of Mr. President for a more prosperous Nigeria."

The interaction aligns with recent developments in the Ministry of Finance, where Dr. Uzoka-Anite has been tasked with key responsibilities in revenue optimization, including close collaboration with agencies like the NCS to review cash flows, strengthen border enforcement, and boost non-oil collections.

Reps approve Tinubu’s request to extend implementation of 2025 capital budget to March 2026

The house of representatives has approved the extension of the implementation of the capital component of the 2025 budget to March 31, 2026.

This followed the passage of the 2024 and 2025 Appropriation (repeal and re-enactment) Bills.

Last week, President Bola Tinubu transmitted the bills to the national assembly, saying they would allow the full release of capital implementation funds to all ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs).
