Abbas Sanusi, Galadiman Kano, Passes Away at 92

Kano – A senior member of the Kano Emirate Council and the Galadiman Kano, Abbas Sanusi, has passed away at the age of 92.

The late traditional ruler died on Tuesday, April 1, in Kano after a prolonged illness.

Born in 1933 in Bichi, he began his education at Kofar Kudu Elementary School in 1944 before proceeding to Kano Middle School (now Rumfa College) in 1948.

Sanusi began his service in the Kano Emirate before Nigeria’s independence. His father, the late Emir Sanusi I, appointed him as Sarkin Dawakin Tsakar Gida and District Head of Ungogo in 1959. He later rose through the ranks, becoming Dan Iyan Kano in 1962 under Emir Muhammadu Inuwa, and was later appointed Wamban Kano by Emir Ado Bayero. Under Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II, he attained the prestigious title of Galadiman Kano.

Among his children is Abdullahi Abbas, the current chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano.

His funeral prayer is expected to take place at the Emir’s Palace in Kofar Kudu, though the exact time is yet to be announced.

Convicted Nigerian Fraudster Spared Deportation Over Family’s Medical Needs

A Nigerian man convicted of romance fraud has avoided deportation from the UK after a tribunal ruled his family's medical needs could not be met in Nigeria.

Emmanuel Jack, who was jailed for three years in 2014 for defrauding six women out of nearly £200,000, had been facing removal from the country.

Jack, who arrived in the UK in 1997, posed as an architect on dating websites to target vulnerable women, ultimately deceiving them out of £186,000.

In 2022, the Home Office sought to deport him, but Jack launched a legal challenge to remain.

A London immigration and asylum tribunal ruled in his favor, citing concerns that his British wife and children would not receive adequate healthcare in Nigeria.
