ON INSECURITY AND INCESSANT KILLINGS.
On the issue of insecurity that has bedevilled this country to the point of helplessness and shame, i think the president and his team should go. If my son is made to repeat the same class for 5 consecutive years i will just shift him to somewhere to develope his psychomotor instincts by learning a trade.
What am i saying? If you fail to find a solution to a lingering issue as profound as rampant killings of citizens/insecurity after 5 years, then it won't be a prophesy of doom to not see any positive change in the future.
I appreciate the fact that our armed forces might be short on staff strength with just about 315000 police men ( a large chunk of whom are on VIP duty guarding those who feed fat from our national purse and hence, can afford to hire private security for themselves), we have less than that number in the Millitary as well. But the peasant in my village of Sabon-Birni in Igabi LGA of Kaduna State whose only concern is to be safe enough to go to his farm and take his produce freely (and without fear) to any rural grains market to sell knows and cares not about that. All this peasant knows is that election materials locate him when its time and he votes, he votes for a candidate to first provide him security without which virtually all his other demands and wishes can't be met. All he knows is those he has entrusted through the ballot with his safety do WHATEVER IT TAKES to guarantee it.
I know for a fact that by our very nature, the President will not see the attrocious and unabated massacre of our people on a daily basis as worth his resignation, but then he can do an overhaul of the security apparatus of the country and send home those who have apparently failed.
The inspector general of police, the commandant of the NSCDC, the chief of defence staff, chiefs of army, air, and naval staff, chief of defence intelligence, heads of NIA, DSS, national security adviser, ministers of defence and interior, DIGs in our police, top ranking generals in the Millitary have apparently all failed and should be sent packing and kept under surveillance as they enjoy their retirement. This team has failed and has failed woefully, there is no excuse.
Mr president sir, if what we need is a million man police force, a million man Nigerian army, navy, airforce, and DSS respectively is what we need to secure the lives of Nigerians, then it is what you must do. It is exactly what we voted you to do and we honestly don't give a chicken foot how that is achieved, just get it done and END THE KILLINGS, thats all.
Its a known fact that we are not serious about this security issue in this country, all you need to do to verify that point is go to the supposedly operational stations, commands or offices of some of the armed personnel tasked with tech gadgets for tracking these criminal elements, you will find that these gadgets are used for tracking stolen phones of people who have had them stolen in exchange for 10 to 15k. These are gadgets meant to be used for tracking these bloodthirsty bandits, kidnappers and insurgents. All this factors being considered makes it obvious that we are not really ready to end this.
As a retired Major-General and a battle hardened one at that, the president comes to the media and reveal to the whole nation his orders to carry out aerial strikes against these bandits and even give out the locations before the personnel and aircrafts are even mobilised and scrambled for the purpose. Who reveals battle strategy and modus operandi against an enemy with its own strong network of information gathering and informers.
The simple truth is we have failed as a country to exterminate a band of miscreants, we have allowed them (by the actions and inactions of those tasked with our security) to grow bolder, stronger and more audacious by the day.
We are saying enough is enough, the killings must stop, heads must roll so that the approach might change.
The way and manner this is achieved is non of our concern, just get it done. We don't want anybody to come and tell us Amnesty International are watching, because we Nigerians are those that matter and we are watching too. We are watching alongside the spirits of those who have been taken from us by these sons of filth.
STOP THE KILLINGS NOW.
