If you think you know the full map of Southern Kaduna, you need to look closer at where our borders touch our neighboring states! The beautiful landscape of the Middle Belt is stitched together by tribes that completely blur state lines—specifically the Arum (Alumu), Buh, Kantana (Mama), and Ninzam (Ninzo) people.

The biggest similarity among these four tribes is their shared ancestral home and geographical layout. They are heavily anchored in the rugged, fertile hills of Wamba Local Government Area in Nasarawa State, but their communities directly spill over and share strict geographic borders with Southern Kaduna (especially around Sanga and Jema'a LGAs) and Plateau State.

Culturally, they are all predominantly agrarian, cultivating the rocky terrains of the Middle Belt, and they share a deep history of resisting external caliphate pressures to preserve their indigenous identities.
However, their differences are what make each of them completely unique.

The Ninzam (Ninzo) are heavily populated on the Kaduna side, making up a massive chunk of Sanga LGA, and they speak a distinct Plateau language unified under the Uchu Ninzo royal stool.

The Kantana are globally famous for their highly abstract Mangam wooden headcrests and masks, speaking a Jarawan Bantu language. Meanwhile, the Buh are celebrated for their Chu Buh traditional leadership system based in Nakere, and the

Arum community stands out with their unique Alumic linguistic dialects (Alomoh and Tesu) nestled tightly in the hills.
At the end of the day, these tribes prove that our culture is bigger than any state boundary line. Whether they are on the Kaduna side, the Nasarawa side, or the Plateau side, it is one single, beautiful corridor of rich cultural heritage!
Drop your tribe in the comments! Are you Ninzo, Buh, Kantana, or Arum? Let’s count the roll call! 👇🏾🔥
