: Kaduna State Security Council Imposes 24 hour curfew on Kaduna and Zaria Metropolitan Cities

This was disclosed today by Samuel Aruwan, Overseeing Commissioner,
Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs, Kaduna.
According to the statement, The Kaduna State Security Council under the leadership of Governor Uba Sani, following a review of the security situation in the State, hereby notifies citizens of the following:

1. There is sufficient evidence to clearly indicate that the ongoing protest has been hijacked by criminal elements who have resorted to looting of shops and destruction of private and public property.

2. In view of this unfortunate development, the Kaduna State Security Council has unanimously resolved to impose a 24-hour curfew on Kaduna and Zaria Metropolises and environs with immediate effect.

3. Citizens are advised to remain indoors while security forces continue to work to maintain safety and security.

4. Monitoring will be sustained for review of the curfew as required.

This was disclosed by Adamu Nuhu Bargo,the Public Relations Officer of the University. He stated that the Management of Kaduna State University wishes to reaffirm to Parents, Students and the general public that academic activities in the University will continue on Monday, 9th May, 2022 in line with the Academic Calendar.

: The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has announced new dates for the 2023 elections.

This was announced by the National Chairman of the commission, Professor Mahmood Yakubu at a news conference in Abuja, the Federal capital.

According to him, the Presidential and National Assembly elections will now hold on Saturday, February 25, 2023, while governorship and state houses of assembly elections will hold on March 11, 2023.

Yakubu explained that the new date is to allow for conformity with the provisions of the Electoral laws which stipulates that elections notice be published at least 360 days before the elections.
