BREAKING : NORTHWEST GROUP SAYS APPOINTMENT OF SEN YARI IS A STRATEGIC MASTERSTROKE FOR 2027

By Nasir Dambatta

The Northwest Progressives Forum (NPF) has warmly welcomed the appointment of former Zamfara State Governor and serving Senator, Abdulaziz Yari, as the Director-General of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council (PCC), describing the decision as a strategic masterstroke that will strengthen the party’s preparations for the 2027 presidential election.

In a statement issued by Comrade Tukur Aliyu Dambatta, the National Coordinator and
Alhaji Sani Kamba, the National Publicity Secretary, the Forum said Senator Yari’s emergence reflects the APC’s recognition of experience, regional influence, political capacity, and organizational competence required to build a formidable nationwide campaign structure ahead of the next general election.

According to the group, Yari’s appointment comes at a critical time when the party requires tested leadership to consolidate support across the country and deepen grassroots mobilization.

The NPF identified four major factors that make Senator Yari the ideal choice for the position.

The Forum noted that the Northwest remains Nigeria’s most influential electoral bloc and that Yari’s extensive political network, grassroots acceptance, and strong presence across Zamfara, Kano, Kaduna, Katsina, Jigawa, Sokoto, and Kebbi States make him uniquely positioned to galvanize unprecedented regional support for the APC.

The group highlighted Yari’s vast political experience, pointing to his record as a two-term Governor of Zamfara State, former Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, and ranking Senator. It said these credentials have equipped him with the governance experience, negotiation skills, and institutional knowledge necessary to coordinate a complex national campaign.

The Forum emphasized Yari’s proven organizational strength and resource mobilization capacity, describing him as a leader with a demonstrated ability to build political structures, harmonize diverse interests, and successfully manage large-scale political operations requiring discipline, precision, and strategic foresight.
Fourth, the NPF praised Yari’s loyalty to the APC and his reputation as a bridge-builder committed to party unity.

According to the group, these qualities will be instrumental in consolidating support among governors, legislators, party leaders, stakeholders, and grassroots supporters nationwide.

The group also expressed confidence that under Senator Yari’s leadership, the APC Presidential Campaign Council will strengthen national outreach, expand grassroots engagement, and reinforce the party’s strategic direction as preparations for the 2027 election gather momentum.

"Senator Abdulaziz Yari’s appointment signals readiness, stability, and strategic clarity within the APC as we move toward another defining electoral moment," the statement declared.

The NPF congratulated Senator Yari on what it described as a well-deserved appointment and wished him success in leading the party’s campaign machinery toward victory in 2027.

LAGOS, August 19, 2026 — Geregu Power Plc has announced the full settlement of its outstanding bond obligations, reassuring investors, trustees and other stakeholders of the company's strong commitment to financial discipline and corporate responsibility.

The company disclosed on Wednesday that payment relating to its bond obligations was made in full on August 19, 2026, a move seen as a major confidence booster for bondholders and the Nigerian capital market.

Geregu said the payment underscores its dedication to preserving shareholder value while maintaining the highest standards of corporate governance. The company noted that the decision reflects the Board's unwavering commitment to meeting all financial obligations promptly and responsibly.

Speaking on the development, Chairman of Geregu Power Plc, Senator Abdul'aziz Abubakar Yari (Marafan Sokoto), assured bondholders and trustees that the company remains focused on protecting their interests.

According to him, the Board is fully committed to honouring all obligations owed to bondholders and trustees, adding that the payment was effected in line with the company's responsibilities. Geregu stressed that these matters have no impact whatsoever on its ability to meet its bond obligations.

In a further show of confidence, Senator Yari reiterated the Board's support for the Federal Government's Renewed Hope Agenda, particularly efforts aimed at transforming Nigeria's power sector. He reaffirmed Geregu Power's commitment to contributing to national development through reliable electricity generation and sustainable energy solutions.

The company disclosed that it will issue a formal confirmation of settlement upon completion of the payment process and pledged to keep bondholders, trustees and stakeholders updated on any material developments.

As one of Nigeria's leading power generation companies, Geregu Power Plc said it remains committed to delivering efficient and sustainable energy solutions that support economic growth and national development.

2027 POLLS: NORTHWEST GROUP SAYS YARI IS TINUBU'S STRATEGIC GAME-CHANGER FOR PRESIDENTIAL CAMPAIGN

The Northwest Progressives Forum (NPF), a frontline political support group, has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to appoint former Zamfara State Governor and serving Senator, Abdulaziz Yari, as Director-General of the party’s Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) for the 2027 election.

The group said the appointment of Yari would provide the APC with the strategic depth, political experience, grassroots mobilisation capacity and coalition-building strength required to secure a decisive victory for President Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.

In a statement signed by its National Coordinator, Comrade Tukur Aliyu Dambatta, and National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Sani Kamba, the NPF said the approaching electioneering cycle demanded “tested strategy, deep political capital and undisputed grassroots mobilisation capacity.”

According to the group, the Northwest remains Nigeria’s premier electoral battleground, with the region accounting for the country’s largest voting demographic, making its political consolidation critical to any bid for a landslide presidential victory.

The NPF argued that Senator Yari possesses the political weight and grassroots reach required to consolidate the APC’s support across the seven Northwest states of Zamfara, Kano, Kaduna, Katsina, Jigawa, Sokoto and Kebbi.

It described Yari as a political heavyweight with “massive respect, structural loyalty and popularity” across the region, insisting that his extensive political networks could provide a formidable foundation for the APC’s presidential campaign.

The group also highlighted Yari’s extensive political experience, citing his two-term tenure as Governor of Zamfara State, where he demonstrated leadership and administrative capacity, as well as his tenure as Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF).

According to the NPF, Yari’s experience as NGF Chairman exposed him to high-level consensus building, cross-party diplomacy and the management of complex political interests across Nigeria’s 36 states.

The group further pointed to his experience as a ranking Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, saying this has given him deep institutional connections within the National Assembly as well as strong grassroots political networks.

On campaign organisation and resource mobilisation, the NPF said Yari had repeatedly demonstrated the ability to mobilise personnel, build effective structures and bring together diverse political interests towards a common objective.

It maintained that such organisational muscle would be indispensable to the effective coordination of a presidential campaign council, particularly in an election as politically significant as the 2027 contest.

The group also described Yari as a loyal and unifying party figure capable of building bridges among party leaders, governors, legislators and grassroots supporters.

It said his coalition-building capacity would be particularly valuable at a time when internal harmony and broad-based political cooperation remain crucial to the APC’s electoral prospects.

The NPF therefore urged President Tinubu to consider “the political arithmetic of 2027” and entrust the leadership of the Presidential Campaign Council to a battle-tested political strategist from the Northwest.

It equally called on the APC National Working Committee (NWC) and all APC governors to endorse Yari for the position, arguing that his emergence would help create a unified, formidable and nationwide political machinery for the President’s re-election campaign.

“2027 requires strategic precision. Senator Abdulaziz Yari as DG PCC provides the bridge between the grassroots voter and national victory,” the group declared.

The NPF reiterated that its call was driven by its commitment to regional consolidation, national unity and the sustained electoral success of the APC.

NIGERIA'S RISING FOREIGN RESERVES REFLECT RENEWED INVESTOR CONFIDENCE, SAYS CBN

By Nasir Dambatta

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has attributed the country's rising foreign reserves to renewed investor confidence and sustained capital inflows, saying its ongoing economic reforms are restoring stability to Nigeria's financial system.

The Acting Director of Corporate Communications and Investor Relations Department of the CBN, Mrs. Hakama Sidi Ali, made the assertion while delivering the CBN Governor, Mr Yemi Cardoso’s opening remarks at the CBN Fair held on Tuesday at the International Conference Centre, Gombe.

Mrs Sidi Ali disclosed that Nigeria's foreign reserves had climbed above $52.5 billion as of July 17, 2026, representing a 17-year high and exceeding the Central Bank's annual target.

She said the increase was supported by sustained foreign exchange inflows and renewed investor participation across various asset classes in the Nigerian economy, reflecting growing confidence in the country's economic management.

According to her, the reforms introduced under the leadership of CBN Governor Olayemi Cardoso are beginning to produce measurable gains, including improved macroeconomic stability, easing inflation and greater confidence in the foreign exchange market.

She noted that headline inflation declined slightly from 15.93 per cent in May to 15.91 per cent in June 2026, while both food and core inflation also moderated during the period due to disciplined monetary tightening, exchange-rate unification and improved market transparency.

The CBN Acting Director of Corporate Communications further stated that the naira has continued to strengthen, with the gap between the official exchange rate and Bureau de Change rates narrowing to below two per cent, a development she described as evidence of improving foreign exchange market stability.

She highlighted other reforms undertaken by the apex bank over the past 34 months, including banking sector recapitalisation, the launch of the non-resident Bank Verification Number (BVN), the B-Match foreign exchange trading platform, the Nigeria Payments System Vision 2028 and the introduction of the Nigerian Overnight Financing Rate benchmark.

Mrs reaffirmed the CBN's commitment to maintaining monetary and price stability while implementing policies that encourage investment, strengthen financial markets and promote sustainable economic growth.

Earlier, the Branch Controller of the CBN Gombe Branch, Mr Yunusa Buba Mubi, described the CBN Fair as an annual engagement platform designed to educate the public on the Bank's policies and provide an avenue for stakeholders to ask questions and offer feedback.

He urged participants to actively engage in the sensitisation sessions to enhance public understanding of the Bank's initiatives and their impact on the nation's economy.

BREAKING: GOV SANI'S CHOICE OF JERRY ADAMS IS PROOF 2027 WILL BE KADUNA'S TURNING POINT — GROUP

KADUNA — The Uba Sani Back2Back Movement (USB2B) has said Governor Uba Sani's choice of Jerry Adams as his running mate is proof that 2027 will mark a turning point in Kaduna's development trajectory, citing the KADIRS chief's outstanding record in revenue generation, institutional reforms and public sector innovation.

In a statement signed by its Strategic Communication Director, Hadiza Mohammed, the group said Adams' performance at the Kaduna State Internal Revenue Service (KADIRS) demonstrated the governor's commitment to rewarding competence, results and service delivery.

According to the group, Kaduna's highest Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) before 2023 stood at ₦58 billion, but under Adams' leadership, collections rose to ₦62.49 billion in 2023, the highest in Northern Nigeria. The figure increased further to ₦71 billion in 2024, while monthly revenue collections reportedly grew from about ₦4 billion to approximately ₦9 billion.

The group noted that KADIRS is targeting ₦20 billion monthly collections and ₦112 billion annual revenue through reforms that broadened the tax net and improved compliance without introducing new taxes or levies.

It credited Adams with driving key initiatives such as Project CRAFT and PAYKADUNA, which expanded taxpayer identification, simplified payment processes, improved transparency and strengthened public confidence in the revenue system.

"Jerry Adams did not build success by placing additional burdens on citizens. He expanded participation, strengthened trust and modernized the system. The result is a revenue agency that has become a model for others across the country," the statement said.

USB2B further noted that several revenue agencies have visited KADIRS to understudy its reforms and operational model, describing the development as evidence of the institution's growing national reputation.

The group maintained that Governor Uba Sani's decision reflects a leadership style anchored on performance and measurable outcomes, adding that Adams' track record offers a clear indication of the direction Kaduna is expected to take in the years ahead.

"Every leader is ultimately judged by the people he entrusts with responsibility. Jerry Adams has already provided three years of verifiable results. His record speaks for itself and demonstrates why he has earned a greater role in Kaduna's future," the statement added.

USB2B expressed confidence that the combination of Governor Uba Sani's leadership and Adams' administrative experience would accelerate development, strengthen governance and consolidate ongoing reforms across Kaduna State.

10 WAYS TINUBU'S REFORMS HAVE REBUILT NIGERIA — GAMBO GUJUNGU..Hails Uba Sani's Landmark Projects in Kaduna

The City Boy Movement, Kaduna State Chapter, has declared that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's bold economic reforms have begun rebuilding Nigeria's economy and laying the foundation for long-term prosperity, three years after he assumed office.

The group said despite inheriting an economy weighed down by foreign exchange distortions, fuel subsidy burdens, declining investor confidence and mounting fiscal pressures, President Tinubu chose to pursue difficult but necessary reforms rather than delay critical decisions.

In a statement signed by its State Director( Kaduna), Gambo Ibrahim Gujungu, the movement outlined what it described as ten major achievements of the Tinubu administration, arguing that the results are becoming increasingly evident across key sectors of the economy.

According to the group, the administration stabilized the naira and cleared a $7 billion foreign exchange backlog, restoring confidence in the foreign exchange market and creating a more predictable environment for businesses and investors.

It further noted that investor confidence has rebounded significantly, with more than $50 billion in investment commitments announced across the energy, technology and manufacturing sectors, while foreign reserves have strengthened and economic growth has remained on an upward trajectory.

The movement also highlighted the economy's sustained growth performance, noting that non-oil sectors now account for the overwhelming share of economic expansion, a development it said demonstrates the growing resilience of the Nigerian economy.

On fiscal reforms, the group said enhanced Federation Account allocations have enabled states and local governments to access over ₦15.8 trillion in three years, boosting their capacity to undertake infrastructure projects, improve public services and implement the new ₦70,000 minimum wage.

The statement credited the administration with transforming the petroleum sector through the removal of fuel subsidy and support for domestic refining, citing the emergence of the Dangote Refinery and increased crude oil production as major milestones toward energy security and reduced dependence on imported petroleum products.

The City Boy Movement also described the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) as the largest student support programme in the country's history, noting that hundreds of thousands of students have benefited from the scheme, ensuring that financial constraints no longer constitute a major barrier to higher education.

It further pointed to the rollout of 260 federal road, bridge and rail projects nationwide, including major transportation corridors designed to stimulate trade, agricultural productivity and national integration.

The group equally commended the administration's social protection initiatives, including conditional cash transfers, investments in Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) transportation and food intervention programmes aimed at cushioning the impact of economic reforms on vulnerable Nigerians.

In the health and housing sectors, the movement noted ongoing efforts to revitalize thousands of Primary Health Centres and deliver housing units under the Renewed Hope Cities and Estates programme as part of broader efforts to improve citizens' welfare.

While acknowledging that reforms of such magnitude often come with temporary challenges, the group maintained that President Tinubu's policies have established a solid foundation for sustainable growth, economic stability and national development.

The movement also praised Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani for aligning with the Renewed Hope Agenda and translating federal reforms into tangible development outcomes at the state level.

It cited the administration's mass housing projects, the ₦34 billion flood and gully erosion control intervention, the $700 million Kaima Smart City initiative and improved fiscal capacity for service delivery as evidence of effective governance in Kaduna State.

"President Bola Ahmed Tinubu chose courage over convenience, reform over populism and national interest over political expediency. The verdict of history will favour leaders who confronted challenges rather than postponing them," the statement said.

The City Boy Movement urged Nigerians to remain patient and supportive as the benefits of the ongoing reforms continue to unfold, expressing confidence that the country is on a firm path toward economic recovery and shared prosperity.

Analysis
BUILDING BRIDGES OF PEACE: YUSUF USMAN GARBA AND THE NEW FACEBOOK OF COMMUNITY SECURITY IN KADUNA

Leadership is often tested not during times of comfort, but in moments of uncertainty and challenge. In Kaduna State, where the pursuit of peace and security remains a collective aspiration, one man has continued to distinguish himself through unwavering dedication to service, community development, and the wellbeing of the people. That man is Yusuf Usman Garba.

For many who know him, Yusuf Usman Garba is not just a politician; he is a grassroots leader whose political journey has been defined by accessibility, compassion, and a sincere commitment to improving lives. Having actively participated in politics for decades, he has built a reputation as a leader who understands the needs of ordinary people and works tirelessly to address them.

Throughout the years, Yusuf has consistently championed programmes aimed at empowering young people, women, and children. He firmly believes that meaningful development begins when people are given opportunities to thrive. Through various empowerment initiatives and humanitarian efforts, he has touched countless lives, offering hope and support to those who need it most.

His dedication to public service earned him an appointment in 2023 as Personal Assistant (Administration) to the Honourable Minister of Environment, a role in which he brought his wealth of experience, administrative competence, and commitment to effective service delivery.

However, perhaps one of the most significant moments in his public service journey came with his appointment as Special Adviser to the Governor of Kaduna State on Local Security Coordination and Vigilante Affairs. The appointment was not only a recognition of his years of service and grassroots experience, but also a testament to the confidence reposed in him by the Executive Governor of Kaduna State, Uba Sani.

Governor Uba Sani deserves commendation for this thoughtful appointment. Since assuming office, the Governor has demonstrated remarkable commitment to restoring peace and strengthening security across Kaduna State. At a time when security challenges continue to evolve, his administration has remained focused on protecting lives and property through collaboration, community engagement, and support for security agencies.

The Governor’s efforts in promoting peace and stability have brought renewed hope to many communities. By prioritising security and embracing inclusive governance, he has continued to show that lasting peace can only be achieved when government works hand in hand with the people.

For Yusuf Usman Garba, this new responsibility is deeply personal.

As a proud son of Kachia Local Government Area, a community that has experienced the painful effects of insecurity, he understands better than most the devastating consequences of violence on families and communities. He has seen how insecurity disrupts livelihoods, affects education, and weakens social bonds. This personal experience has further strengthened his resolve to work for peace and security.

Since assuming office, Yusuf has hit the ground running. Recognising that security is everyone’s responsibility, he has embarked on strategic visits to heads of security agencies and other critical stakeholders across the state. These engagements are aimed at fostering stronger collaboration, improving intelligence sharing, and identifying practical solutions to emerging security challenges.

His approach has been simple yet effective: listen, engage, collaborate, and act.

Beyond security matters, Yusuf Usman Garba has continued to demonstrate that leadership goes beyond occupying public office. Recently, he organised and sponsored a free medical outreach at the Kachia General Hospital, providing much-needed healthcare services to members of the community. For many beneficiaries, the outreach was more than just medical assistance it was a reminder that compassionate leadership still exists.

Those who have worked closely with him often describe him as humble, approachable, and deeply committed to the welfare of the people. Rather than remaining distant from the communities he serves, Yusuf prefers to stay connected to the grassroots, listening to people’s concerns and seeking practical ways to address them.

As Kaduna State continues its journey towards lasting peace and sustainable development, leaders like Yusuf Usman Garba offer reason for optimism. Working under the purposeful leadership of Governor Uba Sani, he represents a new generation of public servants who understand that true leadership is measured not by promises made, but by lives touched and communities transformed.

Indeed, Yusuf Usman Garba’s story is one of service, sacrifice, and an enduring commitment to humanity. It is a story that continues to inspire hope a reminder that with dedication, sincerity, and collective effort, a safer and more prosperous Kaduna State is possible for all.
