The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) Kaduna State Office has organized a stakeholders’ engagement meeting for the organized private sector at the Kaduna ICT Hub, Kanta Road, Kaduna today.
The State Coordinator, Aliyu Dodo Lawal, said the large turnout shows the agency’s commitment to sensitizing stakeholders on health insurance programmes.
He explained that the NHIA Act 2022 makes health insurance mandatory for public and private institutions.
He noted that Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) are required to enroll staff, while companies involved in public procurement must present valid NHIA Health Insurance Certificates.
He added that a digital platform will soon be introduced to verify certificates and improve transparency.
The Zonal Director, North-West, Ibrahim Gwamba, said the scheme is aimed at achieving universal health coverage in Nigeria.
He added that about 97% of federal workers are already enrolled, and emphasized government commitment to full compliance of the policy.
Two papers were presented on the benefits of health insurance and strategies for increasing enrollment. Participants also contributed suggestions, while stakeholders described healthcare as a right, not a privilege.
The engagement is part of NHIA’s efforts to expand access to affordable and quality healthcare.
