BIBLE STUDY TIME

Ephesians 5:22 is the verse most people quote: “Wives, submit to your husbands.” But the verse right before it, Ephesians 5:21, says, “Submit to one another.” Paul first spoke about mutual submission among believers before he addressed husbands and wives specifically. Yet many people emphasize verse 22 while ignoring verse 21 completely.

Then in verse 25, husbands are commanded to love their wives as Christ loved the church. And how did Christ love the church? He served, washed feet, carried the burden, and ultimately gave His life. Jesus Christ did not lead through domination or control but through sacrifice and humility. So the same passage that calls wives to submit also calls husbands to selfless, sacrificial love. Many people stop at verse 22 and overlook the rest of the chapter.

Similarly, 1 Corinthians 11:3 says that the head of the woman is the man, and the head of Jesus Christ is God.

Some interpret this to mean that men are superior to women because they assume “head” automatically means authority or superiority. But the verse itself challenges that interpretation.

As a Christians I believe that God and Christ are one, equal in nature and essence. So if God being the head of Christ does not mean Christ is inferior, then a man being the head of his wife cannot automatically mean she is inferior either. The meaning of “headship” cannot suddenly change within the same sentence just to support a preferred argument.

Too often, people are not approaching these verses with consistency or careful understanding, but with selective interpretation that supports what they already want to believe.

The Other Side On Human Nature, Faithfulness, and the Stories We Tell

I've come to accept that evil is part of human nature, but so is the capacity for self-control. Both exist within us simultaneously, and that tension is what makes us human.

When you think about it, virtually every trait we associate with human behaviour, adultery, polygamy, monogamy, stealing, murder, jealousy, selfishness, love, kindness, envy, hope, forgiveness, and unforgiveness exists within the full spectrum of human nature. Men and women alike carry the potential for all of it. Whatever any human being is capable of doing is, by definition, within human nature.

I shared this with a friend recently that I have made a conscious decision to train my mind to accept people as they are, rather than as we wish them to be.

Which brings me to faithfulness.
I believe both men and women are polygamous by nature. What differs is not the impulse, but how it is expressed, and more importantly, how it is concealed.

In my observation, men and women both lie, but they tend to lie differently. Men lie by exaggerating, boasting, and inflating, they embellish their conquests. Women, on the other hand, tend to lie by denying and minimising, and this is not simply personality; it is largely a response to cultural expectation and social consequence.

This is precisely why we hear far more about men and their romantic escapades than we do about women's. It is not because men stray more. It is because men often talk about it, while women have far greater social incentive to stay silent.

The uncomfortable truth is this: women's perceived faithfulness is far more cultural than it is biological. Society rewards women for the appearance of fidelity and punishes them severely for any deviation from it.

Men face no equivalent social penalty, in many cultures, they are even admired for the same behaviour that would destroy a woman's reputation.

So who is more faithful in relationships, men or women?

Perhaps that is the wrong question.

The more honest question might be: who has more to lose by being found out?

Should there ever come a time that women will become as boastful as men are in infidelity, abi we are getting there.

Marriage is a commitment, don't go into it without fully understanding what you are getting yourself into.

As far I am concerned both men and women can be faithful if they put their minds to it.

I have a deep respect for men who are secure in their own abilities and do not feel the need to take credit for the accomplishments of others. Conversely, I've observed some men who accept praise for achievements they didn't accomplish, largely due to their fragile ego and the necessity of feeling validated by a woman's praise.

This is so misleading, like it so heartbreaking 😭😭

In Hinduism, the idea of Niyog is pushing women or wives to strangers to have male children if that cannot be gotten through the husbands.

In Buddhism, Nirvana (Salvation) cannot be attained in the company of women.

In Judaism, women are believed to be under Divine curse.

In Classical Greece Socrates notes that : " women are the greatest source of chaos and disruption in the world. She is like the defali tree which outwardly looks beautiful but if sparrows eat it they die without fall."

Anderosky summarized the Greek's conception of women as thus; "cure is possible for fire burns and snakebites, but it is impossible to arrest a woman's subtlety."

The major world religions have not been fair to women.

The Chinese scriptures refer to women as "waters of woes" that washes away good fortunes.

I have come to realise that none of the major world religions have been particularly good for women, as they are usually relegated to footnotes in the scheme of things in the society.
