SOUTHERN KADUNA YOUTHS PUSH FOR REALIGNMENT WITH TINUBU'S GOVERNMENT
Southern Kaduna may be rethinking its political strategy as youths and stakeholders in the region move towards aligning with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
This shift followed a resolution reached at the Southern Kaduna Renaissance Front (SKRF) 2025 Young Persons Political Conference, held in Kaduna on Wednesday.
The conference, chaired by Dr. Monday Barau Madaki, drew participants from across the 12 local government areas of the zone to deliberate on the theme: “Charting a Path to 2027: Alignment or Opposition to the Centre.”
After robust debates, the majority of participants agreed that political realignment with the centre was the most viable route to securing greater development and political relevance for Southern Kaduna.
The communique issued to Salama News at the end of the meeting noted that contrary to widespread assumptions, the region had played a key role in the All Progressives Congress (APC)’s victories in 2015 and 2019, contributing 40 percent and 30 percent of votes respectively.
Participants insisted that this electoral strength gave Southern Kaduna a legitimate claim to stronger recognition from the ruling party.
The forum welcomed recent interventions from the Tinubu-led administration, citing the appointment of General Christopher Musa as Chief of Defence Staff, the approval of Senator Sunday Katung’s bill establishing the Federal University of Applied Sciences in Kachia, and the creation of the Federal Medical Centre, Kafanchan.
However, it expressed disappointment over what it described as Governor Uba Sani’s failure to reflect similar inclusiveness at the state level through appointments.
It urged the governor to correct these imbalances ahead of the 2027 elections, warning that failure to do so could weaken the growing goodwill towards aligning with the centre.
The communique also observed that many legislators from the zone had already begun moving closer to the centre. Whereas the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Labour Party won 15 of the 22 legislative seats in Southern Kaduna in 2023, most of those lawmakers have since shifted loyalties, leaving the PDP with fewer than five.
The forum called on remaining PDP leaders, including Senator Sunday Katung and Mr. Daniel Amos, to reconsider their positions in the interest of regional development.
Beyond realignment at the federal level, the SKRF called for Southern Kaduna sons and daughters to contest the governorship on the platforms of all major political parties in 2027, stressing that the region must no longer play second fiddle in Kaduna State politics.
The conference further insisted that Southern Kaduna is not a minority bloc but a collection of ethnic nationalities accounting for about 51.2 percent of the state’s population.
It therefore demanded a restructuring of Kaduna into two zones—North and South—arguing that the current three-zone arrangement perpetuates imbalance and undermines power rotation.
Signed by Convener Comrade Sabastine Bahori Luka and Secretary Pastor Jerome Waziri, the communique called for unity among all stakeholders in the zone.
It stressed that political realignment with the centre was the surest way to secure recognition, equity, and sustainable development for Southern Kaduna ahead of 2027.
