KANO STATE POLICE COMMAND BURSTS SIM CARD FRAUD SYNDICATE, ARRESTS SIX AND RECOVERS N1.7 MILLION

Kano, November 5, 2025 - The Kano State Police Command has recorded a major breakthrough in its fight against cybercrime with the arrest of a six-member syndicate specialized in SIM Card fraud and bank-related scams. This success follows a complaint lodged by one Nura Abdullahi of Kabuga Quarters, Kano on 28th October 2025, who reported the theft of his MTN SIM Card and fraudulent withdrawal of N5,750,000 from his bank account.

The investigation uncovered the involvement of six accomplices who conspired to deceive victims, obtain their personal details such as BVN and NIN, and use these to open fraudulent bank accounts, obtain ATM Cards, and execute illegal transactions.

The arrested suspects are:
i. Mubarak Saleh, 25, of Rimin Auzinawa Quarters, Kano
ii. Babangida Lawan, 30, of Kabuga Quarters, Kano
iii. Ahmad Shehu Adamu, 36, of Tudun Yola Quarters, Kano
iv. Ezra Titus, 43, of Sabongari Quarters, Kano
v. Abubakar Abdullahi Abdul, 37, of Giginyu Quarters, Kano
vi. Ahmad Abdullahi, 26 years old, of Kabuga Quarters Kano.

During the operation, six mobile phones and the sum of one million seven hundred thousand naira (N1,700,000) were recovered from the suspects.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, PhD, sfipma, mnim, mnips, masis, commended the efforts of the investigating team for its professionalism and swift action. He also calls on residents of Kano State to remain vigilant and cautious of fraudsters who deceive innocent people into divulging sensitive personal details, including their BVN and NIN.

The Command assures the public that investigations are ongoing and that all suspects will be charged to court upon completion of the investigation. The Kano State Police Command remains committed to protecting lives and property, especially the financial security of all residents.

Kano, November 4, 2025 - The Kano State Police Command played host to renowned climate advocacy cyclist and founder of Emergency Action on Climate Change Initiative, Mr. Edidiong Etefia, today. Mr. Etefia, who embarked on a solo bicycle journey across Nigeria to raise awareness about climate change, was received by the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Department of Operations, DCP Lawal Mani, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, PhD, sfipma, mnim, mnips, masis.

During the visit, Mr. Etefia planted a tree at the Bompai Police Headquarters, Kano, as a symbolic gesture of the Command's commitment to environmental sustainability. In his remarks, he emphasized that his tour aimed to spark dialogue, connect communities, and inspire collective action to safeguard the planet.

DCP Lawal Mani, representing the Commissioner of Police, appreciated Mr. Etefia for his commitment and acknowledged the critical role the Nigeria Police Force can play in advancing climate justice. He highlighted that the Force, under the leadership of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM, is leading by example through the Nigeria Police Green Initiative. This initiative seeks to integrate green innovative solutions into law enforcement and security operations to enhance operational efficiency and capacity.

Kano, November 3, 2025 - The Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, PhD, sfipma, mnim, mnips, masis, has decorated 29 newly promoted officers of the Command. The ceremony, which took place at the Police Officers Mess, Bompai, Kano, was attended by distinguished officers, invited guests, and members of the press.

He also appreciated the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 1 Kano, for his guidance and continuous support to the Command.

The Commissioner of Police charged the newly promoted officers to rededicate themselves to the noble ideals of integrity, discipline, and selfless service, and to lead by example in their new roles. He emphasized that with higher ranks come greater accountability and the need to demonstrate exceptional leadership at all times.

The 29 officers decorated include:

2025 FIRE SAFETY WEEK: FEDERAL FIRE SERVICE IN CONJUNCTION WITH KANO POLICE COMMAND ORGANIZES TRAINING ON FIRE SAFETY AND FIREFIGHTING SKILLS FOR POWA MEMBERS

On 30th October 2025, in commemoration of the 2025 Fire Safety Week, the Federal Fire Service, Kano Police Command in conjunction with the Kano State Police Command organized training on 'Fire Safety and Firefighting Skills' for 100 members of Police Officers Wives Association (POWA). The training was led by the State Controller, Engr. Kazeem Oyefola Sholadoye supported by other personnel from the Kano Command of the Federal Fire Service. The training is said to be timely considering the record of fire incidences during the last 24 months in Kano State.

Part of the speech of the Chairperson of Police Officers Wives Association (POWA), Hajia Hadiza Ibrahim Bakori reads "As wives, mothers and homemakers, we play a fundamental role in the safety of our families and the environment we live therefore, having the knowledge of how to prevent fire, how to react in cases of fire and how to use fire fighting equipments is crucial in safeguarding lives and properties in case of fire incidences. This training is not just a session it is an empowerment because what we learn here today, we will take home and educate our families and also our communities, so I crave the indulgence of everyone here today to listen closely, participate and take home something meaningful."

KANO STATE POLICE COMMAND NABS TWO NOTORIOUS ARMED ROBBERS, RECOVERS MOTOR VEHICLE ROBBED FROM AN AIR FORCE OFFICER IN ABUJA AT GUNPOINT

The Kano State Police Command is pleased to announce the successful arrest of two notorious armed robbers specialized in car snatching and armed robbery. This achievement stems from actionable intelligence and prompt action by the Command's Operatives.

2. On October 29, 2025, at about 03:15am, armed robbers invaded a residence in Karu, Abuja, robbed an unspecified amount of money, mobile phones and an Air Force Officer's Ford Escape Motor Vehicle. Intelligence reports indicated the suspects were heading towards Kano State. Acting on this, the Command's Anti-Kidnapping Squad intercepted the motor vehicle along Kano-Zaria Expressway near Salbas Filling Station. During the Operation, the suspects opened fire, and in the ensuing exchange, two of them were demobilized and arrested.

The arrested suspects are:

i. Adamu Adam Abubakar, male, of Zoo Road, Kano
ii. Umar Bello, male, of Nasarawa Dirkania, Kaduna State.

3. Both suspects were occupants of the recovered vehicle. Unfortunately, one Dan Malam (surname unknown) escaped with a pistol and some of the robbed valuables, and is currently being trailed.

4. CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, PhD, sfipma, mnim, mnips, masis, Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, commends the Intelligence Unit of the Force Headquarters Abuja for their support and coordination, and the Command's Operatives for their commitment on the success recorded.

5. He urges citizens to continue to support the police with timely information to tackle insecurity, and assures the public that the Command will leave no stone unturned in bringing the fleeing suspect to justice.

On Tuesday, 28th October 2025, the Federal Fire Service, Kano Command in collaboration with the Kano State Police Command kick started activities commemorating the 2025 Fire Safety Week. The event featured Awards and Recognition of individuals for their support and compliance with fire safety provisions. The Kano State Commissioner of Police emerged the "Chief Fire Safety Ambassador". Other events lined up for the week include Basic Fire Safety and Firefighting Skills for Hoteliers and the members of Police Officers Wives Association (POWA).

SPEECH BY THE COMMISSIONER OF POLICE, KANO STATE COMMAND, CP IBRAHIM ADAMU BAKORI, PhD, sfipma, mnim, mnips, masis, ON THE OCCASION OF THE 2025 FIRE SAFETY WEEK LAUNCH

Members of the Nigeria Police Force, Officers of the Federal Fire Service, Distinguished Guests, Ladies and Gentlemen.

It is with great honour and humility that I address you today at the launch of *The 2025 Fire Safety Week*, an important event organized by the Federal Fire Service, Kano Command, in collaboration with the Nigeria Police, Kano State Command. This event is a significant step toward raising awareness about fire safety and enhancing our collective capacity to prevent and respond to fire incidents effectively.

I am particularly pleased that this year’s Fire Safety Week includes the training of 100 Police Officers on 'Basic Fire Safety and Firefighting Skills.' This initiative is a commendable step toward equipping our officers with critical knowledge and practical skills to respond effectively to fire emergencies. Fire Safety is an essential component of public safety, and by empowering our officers with these skills, we are not only enhancing their capacity but also strengthening the overall safety framework of Kano State.

I would like to use this opportunity to commend the Federal Fire Service for their tireless efforts in training and capacity building. Your dedication to equipping personnel and institutions with the necessary skills and knowledge to prevent and respond to fire incidents has undoubtedly helped in saving countless lives and properties.

I wish to express my profound gratitude to the Controller General of the Federal Fire Service for the recognition and award of the status of "Chief Fire Safety Ambassador" conferred upon me today. This recognition is not only a personal honor but also a reflection of the strong partnership and collaboration between the Nigeria Police Force and the Federal Fire Service in Kano State.

The notification letter accompanying this award highlights, in part, my support for fire services and compliance with fire safety provisions, which have contributed to a significant reduction in losses of lives and properties in Kano.

I pledge to do more, and assure you that the Kano State Police Command will continue to prioritize Fire Safety measures in all its activities and facilities.

As we Launch The 2025 Fire Safety Week, I encourage all stakeholders, including community leaders, organizations, and members of the public, to actively participate in promoting Fire Safety. As Fire Prevention and Response are shared responsibilities that require vigilance, awareness, and proactive measures from everyone.

In conclusion, I once again thank the Federal Fire Service for this recognition and for their continued partnership with the Nigeria Police Force. I also commend the officers and men of the Kano State Police Command for their efforts in maintaining Fire Safety, even as I dedicate this Award to all of us.

KANO STATE POLICE COMMAND REINFORCES PROFESSIONALISM AND DISCIPLINE AMONG OFFICERS

In line with the directives of the Inspector-General of Police on zero tolerance for corruption, upholding the rule of law, and ensuring respect for the human rights of all citizens, the Kano State Police Command, under the leadership of Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, PhD, sfipma, mnim, mnips, masis, has intensified efforts to entrench professionalism and discipline across all formations within the Command.

Between 1st and 26th October 2025, the X-Squad team - charged with monitoring police officers' compliance to professionalism, led by ACP Ugwuodo Chika, conducted a comprehensive Monitoring and Evaluation exercise in some Divisional Police Headquarters and Area Commands in the Command. This exercise was carried out under the directives of CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori to assess compliance with the Inspector-General’s standards on professionalism, discipline, and human rights observance.

The exercise focused on key operational areas, including:
- General cleanliness of police facilities (cells, toilets, premises, etc.).
- Proper keeping of police registers (Station Diaries, Routine Diaries, Prisoners’ Lock-Up Registers, Crime Diaries, Arms Movement Registers, etc.).
- Rights and welfare of detainees to prevent over-detention.
- Officers’ adherence to dress codes, alertness while on duty, and compliance with anti-corruption and human rights directives.
- Conduct of Police Officers posted at traffic duties and strategic locations.

General efforts were observed; however, areas requiring significant improvement were pointed out across the Divisions. The X-Squad team also addressed the issues on-site, by providing lectures to officers on professionalism, discipline, and respect for human rights. Officers were reminded of the Inspector-General’s zero-tolerance policy on bribery, corruption, and the improper handling of civil matters, as well as the prohibition of arrests by proxy.

In a follow-up meeting held today, 27th October 2025, at the Command Headquarters, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori met with supervising officers to emphasize discipline as the foundation of the Nigeria Police Force. The CP commended the efforts of officers in combating crime and maintaining public safety while urging them to remain dedicated, professional, and disciplined in their duties. He also directed Departmental Heads and other supervising officers to pass these principles down to their subordinates, remarking that the exercise by the X-Squad Section is going to be a continuous one, across all the formations in the Command.

The Commissioner of Police reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to strengthening its internal monitoring mechanisms to address unprofessional conducts and uphold the highest standards of policing. He reminded the officers that management and leadership are crucial to achieving success and also emphasized that professionalism and respect for human rights remain top priorities for the Command.

ARREST OF SUSPECTED ARMED BANDIT SYNDICATE MEMBERS AND ONGOING SECURITY ENGAGEMENTS IN MAKODA LGA

The Kano State Police Command, under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, PhD, sfipma, mnim, mnips, masis, continues to intensify efforts to ensure the safety and security of lives and properties across the State.

1. ARREST OF SUSPECTED ARMED BANDIT SYNDICATE MEMBERS: Acting on credible intelligence from members of the Farin Ruwa community in Shanono Local Government Area, combine operatives of the Command's Anti-Kidnapping Squad and Shanono Division, conducted a coordinated tactical operation on Friday, 24th October 2025, at approximately 0200hrs. During the operation, two suspects believed to be members of an armed bandit syndicate were successfully arrested.

The suspects are alleged to have been collaborating with bandits operating within the area, attempting to infiltrate Kano State. The Command has launched a comprehensive investigation to uncover the extent of their activities and connections. Efforts are being intensified to apprehend other members of the syndicate and bring them to justice.

The Commissioner of Police appreciates the vigilance and cooperation of the Farin Ruwa community, which played a crucial role in providing actionable intelligence. He urges all residents of Kano State to remain vigilant and continue to support the Police by reporting suspicious activities promptly.

2. ONGOING SECURITY ENGAGEMENTS IN MAKODA LGA: In a related development, the Command has been addressing ongoing clashes between herders and farmers in Barebari Ward, Makoda LGA. Following a series of security engagements led by ACP Mohammed Mani Gwarzo, Area Commander Dambatta aimed at finding lasting solutions, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori convened a follow-up meeting on Friday, 24th October 2025, at the Command Headquarters.

The meeting brought together key stakeholders to deliberate on sustainable measures to restore peace and prevent further escalations in the area. The Commissioner of Police reiterated the Command’s commitment to ensuring the safety of all residents and emphasized that efforts are ongoing to maintain law and order, as well as protect lives and properties.

The Kano State Police Command assures the public of its unwavering dedication to combating crime and ensuring a safe environment for all. The Command calls on community members to continue their cooperation and support in the fight against criminal elements.
