“Why every Northerner wants to be a politician” - Saror

Former Vice-Chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University, Prof. Daniel Iyorkegh Saror, has linked the growing attraction to politics in Northern Nigeria to the shortage of private-sector jobs and industries.

“So everybody wants to be a politician – young and old,” the former senator said.

He argued that the North needs more private investment and industries capable of creating jobs for its growing population.

Abba Yusuf Appoints Hafsat Kutama Acting PCACC Chairperson

Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has appointed Barr. Hafsat Ada’u Kutama as the Acting Chairperson of the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC).

Before her appointment, Kutama served as the Secretary of the commission.

Her appointment follows the reported resignation of the commission’s former Chairman, Saidu Yahaya, who was reported to have stepped down on Tuesday, September 15, 2026.

Kano PDP reconciles factions, picks Abacha for 2027

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kano State has replaced its earlier governorship candidate, Muhammad Bello Dalhatu, with Muhammad Sani Abacha ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

The change followed Dalhatu’s withdrawal from the race after he emerged as the party’s candidate at its earlier primary.

The party also announced a reconciliation arrangement involving its factions, with the deputy governorship ticket allocated to the group associated with Kabiru Tanimu Turaki. Former factional chairman Alhaji Yusuf Ado Kibiya was subsequently named as the new deputy governorship candidate.

Wali proposes new model to stabilise Nigeria’s petrol prices

Veteran labour leader and oil and gas practitioner, Comrade Mustapha Nuhu Wali, mni, has proposed a new framework to stabilise petrol prices in Nigeria while reducing dependence on petroleum subsidy.

His proposal includes a “Petroleum Price Moderator (PPM)” that would build a ring-fenced stabilisation reserve when international oil prices are favourable and deploy part of the reserve to cushion sharp price increases.

Wali also called for a comprehensive review of the petroleum supply chain, including refining, pipelines, storage, transportation and distribution, to eliminate avoidable costs and improve efficiency.

Governor Uba Sani unveils 2026 Peugeot 3008, 5008 models

Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, visited Dangote Peugeot Automobile Nigeria Limited (DPAN), where he officially unveiled the new 2026 Peugeot 3008 and 5008 models.

The Governor praised the company’s commitment to innovation, local manufacturing and the growth of Nigeria’s automotive industry, reaffirming Kaduna State Government’s support for productive private-sector investments.

As part of the support, Uba Sani pledged to facilitate the handover of official land title documents to DPAN and engage other state governors to encourage wider patronage of the company’s vehicles across Nigeria.

She made history at 16: Kano mourns Hauwa’u Ibrahim

Kano State is mourning the death of Hauwa’u Ibrahim Muhammad, the first female Speaker of the Kano State Children’s Parliament, who died last night, a few days after childbirth.

Hauwa’u made history in June 2022, when she was elected Speaker of the 4th Assembly of the Kano Children’s Parliament at the age of 16.

A former student of Kano Capital Girls School, she went on to study at Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology (ADUSTECH), Kano, while continuing her involvement in child-rights, health and welfare advocacy.

She was also an active member of the Kano Community of Practice (KN-CoP) on immunisation and accountability.

Her Janazah prayer was held this morning at Hotoro Tsamiyar Boka, Kano, where family members, friends, colleagues and sympathisers gathered to pay their final respects.

Hauwa’u will be remembered for breaking barriers at a young age and using her voice to advocate for the protection, health and welfare of children.
