Kano govt allocates 1,000 plots to youths, organisations

The Kano State Government has allocated 1,000 plots of land to young men, women and organisations as part of efforts to promote property ownership and empower residents.

The distribution ceremony was attended by the Commissioner for Land and Physical Planning, Hon. Abduljabbar Muhammad Umar Garko, who described the initiative as a step towards helping young people build sustainable livelihoods.

Garko urged beneficiaries to use the plots responsibly and comply with relevant physical planning regulations and land laws.

The government said the initiative would support housing, business development, investment and job creation while contributing to the growth of new urban communities.

The allocation, it added, reflects its commitment to creating opportunities for young people and strengthening access to assets that can support their future.

Former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has been conferred with the traditional title of Jigon Bauchi by the Emir of Bauchi, Dr Rilwanu Sulaiman Adamu.

The title was bestowed on Jonathan on Thursday at the Emir’s Palace during his two-day visit to Bauchi State.

The Emir said the honour recognised Jonathan’s contributions to democracy, peace and national unity.

Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, who attended the ceremony with other dignitaries, commended the Emirate for recognising the former president’s service to Nigeria.

Kwankwaso Condemns Jingir’s ‘Infidel’ Comment, Says Kano Rejects Divisive Remarks

Vice presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso, has condemned comments attributed to Islamic cleric, Sheikh Sani Yahaya Jingir, describing Christians as “infidels” and warning those opposed to a Muslim-Muslim ticket to leave Nigeria.

Kwankwaso expressed his concern in a statement posted on his verified page on Monday, saying statements capable of promoting division and disunity should be firmly discouraged, particularly at a critical moment in the country’s history.

Jingir, in a video circulating on social media, reportedly said anyone who does not accept a Muslim-Muslim ticket should leave Nigeria, arguing that the country belongs to Muslims. He also referred to Christians as “infidels.”

Reacting to the remarks, the former Kano State governor said it was particularly troubling to hear such rhetoric from a religious leader of Jingir’s stature and influence.

Kwankwaso said political and religious leaders have a responsibility to uphold truth, promote unity and support reconciliation among Nigerians.

He said the people of Kano do not support the remarks attributed to the cleric.

> “Let it be clearly stated: the good people of Kano do not endorse or support these divisive remarks.

> “We must not lend our voices to utterances capable of undermining the very foundation of our nationhood.”

On the 2027 general elections, Kwankwaso said Nigerians would have an opportunity to reward good governance and reject poor performance through their votes.

He added that the current administration had, in his assessment, “earned the latter.”

The Kano State Primary Healthcare Management Board (KSPHCMB) says it has begun using data from the Integrated Supportive Supervision (ISS) for its annual plan and facility development.

The ISS Coordinator, Sagir Muhammad, disclosed this on Monday at a 2-Day Media Engagement Workshop organized by the International Society of Media in Public Health (ISMPH) for selected journalists in Kano

The workshop is designed to equip journalists with skills to amplify and frame narratives on Primary Healthcare Centre (PHC) accountability scorecards using evidence-based insights from ISS and PHC-FAT Findings.

BUK bans charging of electric motorcycles, vehicles on campuses

Bayero University Kano (BUK) has banned the charging of privately owned electric motorcycles and other electric vehicles using the institution's electricity supply across its two campuses.

The announcement was contained in a statement issued by the university's Director of Public Affairs, Lamara Garba, who said the move followed a sharp increase in electricity bills caused by the growing practice of charging private electric vehicles on campus.

The ban takes immediate effect and applies to staff, students, commercial motorcycle operators, and other users. The university warned that violators will face disciplinary action, while heads of departments, halls of residence, and other units have been directed to ensure strict compliance.
