Governor Inuwa Yahaya Leads Gombe into Cultural Renaissance with Pioneer Museum, Historic Sites Restoration

The Gombe State Government has formalized a deal to establish a state-of-the-art museum and restore several iconic historical monuments across the state.

This bold move towards unlocking the economic potential of heritage tourism, was cemented with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with a renowned heritage restoration experts, Exceeda Construction Ltd, at a ceremony presided over by the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi.

The project, a first of its kind in the state, is in line with Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya’s vision of preserving the state’s identity while leveraging its cultural assets to drive sustainable development, generate employment, stimulate local economies and position Gombe as a globally recognized cultural tourism destination.

The arrangement will see the restoration and adaptive reuse of key heritage landmarks, including the old Native Authority Works Department (Gareji), Gidan Magani, the Gombe Native Authority Secretariat (Beit el Mali), Tudun Hatsi Mosque and the Old Staff Quarters of GSSS Gombe, among others.

These historic structures, many of which date back to the colonial and pre-independence era, will be transformed into educational, cultural and tourism sites while maintaining their original character, architecture and structural integrity.

Speaking at the event, Professor Njodi described the monuments as “living testimonies of our history, identity and cultural heritage.”

He emphasized that restoring them is not only about protecting the past but also about inspiring future generations and positioning Gombe as a vibrant cultural and tourism hub.

The Commissioner for Information, Culture, and Tourism, Hon. Mijinyawa Tilde, who signed the agreement on behalf of the state, called it a watershed moment in Gombe State's journey toward cultural renaissance.

Exceeda Construction Ltd, represented by Architect Huraira Umar Baba, Engineer Sa’adatu Lawal Rumah and Barrister Yusrah Yusuf, assured that the project will be executed to the highest standards, with a deep respect for historical authenticity and local context.

The MoU signing was witnessed by the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barr Zubair Muhammad Umar, Principal Private Secretary to the Governor, Professor Muazu Shehu, Cultural Advocate, Alhaji Yaya Hammari, Permanent Secretary, Special Services & Political Affairs, Alhaji Salisu Adamu Sambo, among others.

This monumental step builds on recent recognition of Gombe State by the United Nations, which designated the Mbormi Tomb in Funakaye LGA as an international monument.

Recall that during a recent visit to the state, UN Assistant Secretary-General and Resident Coordinator in Nigeria, Mohammed Fall, was personally guided by Governor Inuwa Yahaya through some heritage sites. Mr. Fall expressed admiration for the state’s cultural assets and pledged the UN’s readiness to partner with Gombe in revitalizing its historic treasures.

Press Release
Wed. 6th August, 2025

BREAKING: Kano Commissioner for Transportation Resigns Over Bail Controversy

‎...Says Resignation is in the Overriding Public Interest

‎The Kano State Commissioner for Transportation, Alhaji Ibrahim Ali Namadi has resigned from his position just hours after Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf received the report of the investigative committee probing his involvement in the controversial bail of a suspected drug baron, Sulaiman Aminu Danwawu.

‎This development is regarded as a significant step in the administration’s ongoing commitment to integrity, transparency, and public accountability.

‎In a statement signed by the Governor's spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the Commissioner explained that his decision to resign was made in the overriding public interest and in the light of sensitive nature of the matter.

‎“As a member of an administration that has consistently championed the fight against the sales and consumption of illicit drugs, it behoves me to take this step—painful as it may be.

‎"While I maintain my innocence, I cannot ignore the weight of public perception and the need to protect the values we have collectively built,” he stated.

‎Alhaji Namadi expressed his profound appreciation to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for the opportunity to serve the state, reaffirming his dedication to the principles of good governance and responsible leadership.

‎“I must, as a good citizen, strive to protect, preserve, and uphold the trust and vision we have worked so hard to instil in our dear state. I remain loyal to the ideals that brought this administration into office,” he added.

‎Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has graciously accepted the resignation and wished the former Commissioner success in his future endeavours. He also reiterated his administration’s unwavering stance on justice, discipline, and the fight against drug-related crimes and social vices affecting the youth and the broader society.

The Governor further stressed the need for all political appointees to always reason with caution on sensitive matters and obtain permission from the higher authority anytime they are about to engage themselves on issues of public interest.

‎Kano Gov. Orders Strict Enforcement of Traffic Regulations

‎...Directs KAROTA to Sanction Violators of the New Installed Traffic Lights

‎The Kano State Government has issued a stern directive mandating full compliance to all traffic regulations across the state, as part of its renewed commitment to urban development and public safety.

‎This was contained in a statement issued on Sinday by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.

‎According to the statement, the directive follows the government’s massive investment—running into billions of naira—towards beautifying and modernizing Kano in line with global urban planning standards.

‎The administration has undertaken the installation of state-of-the-art street lighting systems, road signage, and traffic infrastructure aimed at enhancing night-time visibility, reducing road accidents, and promoting a culture of orderliness on Kano roads.

‎However, despite these efforts, the government expressed deep disappointment over the increasing number of residents and motorists who blatantly ignore traffic signs, violate safety protocols, and fail to respect the newly installed public infrastructure particularly the traffic lights.

‎In response, Kano State Governor Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf has directed the Kano Road Traffic Agency (KAROTA) and Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) to immediately commence full-scale enforcement operations to ensure strict compliance with all traffic laws—particularly the strict compliance with traffic lights in the metropolis.

‎The government further clarified that only emergency service vehicles such as fire trucks, ambulances, and security agencies on official duty are permitted to bypass traffic rules when responding to emergencies.

All other motorists are expected to obey traffic regulations without any exceptions.

‎The government warned that henceforth, any individual or group found sabotaging these urban renewal efforts or flouting traffic laws will face the full weight of the law.

It is also directed that any public official who interfere with operations of road traffic officers by way of attempting to secure a favour for traffic offenders shall be reported to the appropreciate authority as such action will be viewed a sabotage to the present administration.

‎This decisive move underscores the determination of the Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf administration to build a safe, modern, and livable mega city for all.
