Daily Nigerian publisher Jafar Jafar dragged to court over defamation....
.... As Kano court orders police investigation on criminal charges

A Kano court has granted an order directing the Assistant Inspector General of Police ín charge of zone one to conduct a full scale investigation on the crimal charges against Mr. Jafar Jafar, the publisher of Daily Nigerian a Kano based online media platform.

The case brought before the Chief Magistrate number 15 presided by Malam Abdul'aziz M. Habib was filed by Director General, Directorate of Protocol, Kano Government House, Hon. Abdullahi Ibrahim Rogo who dragged publisher of Daily Nigerian, Jafar Jafar and one Audu Umar before Kano Chief Magistrate Court for alleged criminal defamation of character by describing him as a thieving aide to Kano state Governor.

In a criminal complaint brought in pursuant to sections 106,107 of Administration of Criminal Justice Law of Kano state 2019 and sections 114,164 and 393 of the penal code law of Kano state, the DG Protocol is seeking prosecution of the two defendants against the contents published on the 22nd and 25th August, 2025.

The application filed on 28th August, 2025 before Chief Magistrate, Abdulazeez M. Habeeb of Court 15, Nomansland Kano, the complainant accused Jafar and Umar of tarnishing his reputation in the eyes of the public with false statements essentially injurious to his person and his principal, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.

Daily Nigerian had on 25th August, 2025, published a report with bold headline "Gov. Yusuf Defends Thieving aide, says protocol directorate under Ganduje spent N20 billion in 3 months", found to deliberately, recklessly and maliciously caused to defame the complainant reputation.

Also cited by complainant against the defendants was another story published on 22nd August, 2025 with caption " Court documents reveal how ICPC, EFCC traced N6.5billion to Gov. Yusuf's DG Protocol", considered falsely and maliciously written to damage his hard earned image.

The complainant subsequently mounted two count charges against the defendants, bordering on criminal defamation, an offense punishable under section 393 of the Penal code law and breach of public peace an offense punishable under section 114 of the penal code of Kano state.

Meanwhile, the Chief Magistrate of Court 15 Nomansland has directed the Assistant Inspector General of Police AIG, Zone One Kano, to launch a full scale investigation on the alleged criminal defamation of character in a report published by Daily Nigerian newspaper.

The order signed by the registrar of the Court, was issued on Thursday 28th August, 2025 following a complaint filed before the Court against the publisher of the online newspaper Jafar Jafar, still on the controversial 22nd and 25th August, 2025 publications.

Kano state government had broken silence on the allegation of withdrawal and diversion of ₦6.5 billion from the state treasury into individual accounts.

The second litigation against Jafar Jafar and his online platform Daily Nigrian was filed on the civil case before the state High Court demanding damages for defamation of character against Hon. Abdullahi Ibrahim Rogo.

The allegations being peddled against the DG Protocol has been dismissed as perpetual work of fiction, carefully crafted by political opponents who have resorted to blackmail and propaganda in their desperation to make relevance.

The Police are ordered to subject Jafar Jafar on thourough investigation to accertain the reason why he defied the ethics of journalism by making concluding on the pending investigation to decribed someone as a thieve just because that person is a subject of investigation at ICPC.

Kano Govt Denies ₦6.5bn Diversion Allegation, Blames Opposition for Blackmail

‎The Kano State Government (KNSG) has dismissed media reports alleging the diversion of ₦6.5 billion from the state treasury, describing them as false, misleading, and politically motivated.

‎The publication, carried by an online platform on August 22nd, 2025, linked the Director General of Protocol, Government House, Hon. Abdullahi Ibrahim Rogo, to alleged financial misconduct currently before the High Court.

‎Clarification on Protocol Directorate

‎In a statement signed by Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, Director General, Media and Publicity, the government explained that:

‎All disbursements to Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) are budgeted with clear fiscal codes.

‎No official in government has access to public funds outside approved purposes.

‎The Protocol Directorate is an administrative office responsible for logistics, welfare, state visits, and coordination of the Governor’s engagements.

‎It is not an independent spending office and does not operate outside approved financial guidelines.

‎According to the government, over 95 percent of the Directorate’s responsibilities involve financial transactions tied directly to official state obligations.

‎Opposition Accused of Blackmail

‎The statement reaffirmed the government’s confidence in Hon. Abdullahi Rogo and accused opposition elements of sponsoring smear campaigns to destabilise the administration ahead of the 2027 elections.

‎KNSG maintained that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s administration will not allow deliberate acts of political blackmail to undermine the integrity of its officials.

Reference to Past Administration

‎The government also reminded the public that under the immediate past administration of Abdullahi Umar Ganduje:

‎More than ₦20 billion was spent through the Protocol Directorate within three months between February and May 2023.

‎The state endured eight years of corruption, secret accounts, foreign property acquisitions, and land grabbing.

‎The “dollar video” scandal involving the former governor remains a stain on the state’s reputation.

‎Commitment to Accountability

‎The statement stressed that Governor Yusuf’s Gida-Gida administration remains committed to transparency, accountability, and prudent use of public resources.

‎It further urged the media to uphold professionalism and resist being used for misinformation or political propaganda.
